His Father's Son
His Mother Cries
tears flow from her eyes
she hopes her son will understand
His Daddy was just a man../
His Father's son
baby boy
innocent brown eyes
His daddy died
he was twenty five
shot by the cops
who called it justifiable homicide../
He grows up
the neighborhood changes
he's six feet tall
he wears a high top fade../
his mother cries
tears flow from her eyes
she understands
her son is an endangered species..
he's a young black man../
His Father's Son
brown skinned boy
his father's eyes...
now he too has died..
shot by persons unknown
close to his home...
listed as an unsolved homicide.../
and all the husbands, fathers and sons
don't matter
they come and they go..
and at their funerals we all gather
His Father's son
baby boy
His Father's eyes...../
Damn Man, that brought tears to my eyes!
