MONDAY MORNING-

It was Monday, going into our third week of working around the clock on this case...The "Teddy Bear and Barbie Doll" Murders....
 

 "Okay guys...tell me something I don't know about this case." said Lt. Sissy Van Buren.

''Seven of our eight victims were accused or convicted sex offenders....Six of them were on Sex Offender Websites.....and they were on public record..."said Carlotta.

"Anybody can look this up...It's open to the public."said Tyriq.

"We think she picked her victims carefully and in proximity to where she would be." said Jimmy.

"Three or four of our victims all hung around that Roller Skating Rink."said Barbara Hutton...

''All but that Lawyer...He wasn't a sex offender , he had no criminal record...He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and flirted with the wrong girl." said Sirena.

"And he got it the worse...panties in his mouth." said Hop.

''Some people wouldn't say that was so bad." joked Duke..

''We need a break to catch her... She was going to the Women's Law Center..She was in it's outreach program....Her sponser is Attorney Nia Rios...She's a former Assistant District Attorney.." said Sharon.

"I know her...I know her quite well, but she can't tell us anything...It would violate attorney/client priveledge." I said.

"So we're back to needing a break...Some Luck."said Sissy.

"I'm guessing she's crashing with friends right now...We've turned Bayside and Philadelphia upside down looking for her right now." said Barbara.

THE NIGHT BEFORE-BAYSIDE

Unable to find her lawyer, Nina Rios...Carmelita goes to a local bar... She goes there with a young man who had been asking her out for months....Colt Buckley...He worked across the street from the Roller Rink she used to work at in Bayside. He was a short order cook, a year older than her.

I GOTTA BE COOL ABOUT THIS...TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS....I CAN PAY OFF BOTH MY CREDIT CARDS AND PUT DOWN ON A NEW CAR AND STILL HAVE SOME MONEY LEFT OVER....I GOTTA BE COOL ABOUT THIS," he said.

And at our headquarters-

 ''Guys, that lucky break we asked for just came to us...A guy in Bayside named Colt Buckley says that Carmelita is at his apartment...she's planning to leave tomorrow from PENNS LANDING....She's going to take the ferry to Camden and from there depart to places unknown...He's driving her there around four pm." said Sissy.  "He called us from a phone booth in a diner." she said.,

"The waterfront was the one place we didn't have cops....What a smart girl."said Carlotta.

''What a lucky break..She would have slipped out of our grasp, never to be seen again."said Tyriq.

"That's a scary thought...and then the killings would start up someplace else..Maybe years from now." said Jimmy...

"That is a frightening thought...."said Sirena.

"We put the fear of God in her here...You see no more killings occurred..."said Hop..

"She made a series of mistakes, one of course was being seen and being caught on the street cam." said Duke...

"Not once, but twice...My team discovered footage of her leaving the lawyers murder at Lovers Lane early in the morning, shortly before his body was discovered...So that's three murders we can definitely pin on her..."said Angie..

''Say are we uh gonna inform Lt. Tragg about this latest development?" asked Detective Barbara Hutton.

"I suppose we have to...He is uh helping us co-ordinate the investigation." I said...

The entire room exploded in laughter...

It was Sissy and her detectives who interviewed nearly 100 people...who tracked down the toy store where the dolls and Teddy Beas were stolen...who got prints and DNA and actual photos and eyewitness accounts of our suspect and who had been working around the clock on this case from day one with help from Barbara Hutton... Lt. Tragg had done nothing other than appear on Television and talk about the case. He did that with our permission and our control of what he could say.

 "I'm not going to tell him until 3:00 pm tomorrow, an hour before the pick up...."said Sissy.

"Good because he'd try to undermine us and get there first or he'd blab it to the media and she'd be forewarned and change up."said Carlotta.

"Starting with offing our tipster."said Tyriq.

"If she hasn't decided to do that already.." said Jimmy..

"That's a real world possibility, but maybe there is a reason why she hasn't...Maybe this guy is not an older man...Maybe he's someone her age.."said Sirena.

''Someone she can trust....He was at the diner, getting food for them...The fact that he called us means she wasn't with him."said Hop.

"We'll have to cross our fingers and hope for the best." said Duke.

"Our caller is obviously motivated by that $10.000.00 reward." said Angie.

"Haven't you heard? It's been upped to $20.000.00." said Sharon, who was just walking into the room.

"So for a few dollars more..we got our killer."I said.

"Hope Springs Eternal." said Babs.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON-

At Colt's apartment...Carmelita was in the bathroom about to put on make up...

"We've certainly put in enough work."said Angie.

"I'll chase that girl to the end of the Earth." said Babs...

Me, Sissy and Lt. Tragg got into her car and headed for Penns Landing.

''Well this is it...This is goodbye.. Thank you Colt for putting me up and everything....And remember...My car is yours...I signed it over to you..." said Carmelita..

"You're not going to send for me...I'm never going to see you again am I?" asked Colt.

"I'm afraid not.....I'm sure you know who I am now and You know I can't come back...We are both adults Colt...We had a good time...but it's time for me to go." said Carmelita.

"I know.....Goodbye baby!" he said.

They kissed passionately for a few minutes....

"Goodbye Colt." she said softly...

The Ferry was approaching..... She watched as Colt walked down the boardwalk into the distance..

She saw a Latina woman, a White male and a Black Male Walking towards her..

Something about them said "COP"...She slowly began walking away..

She saw a Short stylish Black woman and a Black male walking towards her..along with another stylish Black woman.....They could be getting on the ferry, but she thought not!

Maybe it was paranoia, but she started walking down the Marina, away from the Ferry...She didn't have a good feeling about this..

It was Duke , who she didn't know , who put the bite on her...

"Hey Little girl,where you going?" he said and grabbed her..

And Angie snapped the handcuffs on her...

"Carmelita Sanchez, you're under arrest for eight counts of First Degree Murder....You have the right to remain silent...anything you say can be held against you in a court of law...You have a right to an Attorney, If you can't afford one, one will be provided for you.Do you understand these rights as I am reading them to you?" she asked.

Carmelita looked relieved..The chase was over. She looked at Angie and smiled maniacally...."You said Eight Homicides...Add one more and you got it." she said and laughed..

A Chill went down Angie's spine....She'd been locking up killers for years, but none like this.She actually scared her a little bit..

"Carmelita Sanchez....I've waited a long time to meet you." said Sissy..

Carmelita looked at Sissy...She had seen her on television...

"Oh , I'll just bet you have." she said and smiled.

"Lieutenant, take her to Central Booking." said Sissy..

"With Pleasure.Let's go sister!"said Lt. Tragg.

The Reign of the Teddy Bear and Barbie Doll Killer was over.

In the Fishbowl...We presented Carmelita witheevidence we had against her.. Her fingerprints matched..So did the DNA...and we had two eyewitnesses placing her at the scene of two murders and street cam footage placing her at the scene of yet two others...

She confessed to all eight murders....saying simply..,"They deserved it...I don't feel any remorse."

She confessed with Lt. Tragg, Sissy, Babs, Me and her attorney, My good friend, Nina Rios sitting with her.

She confessed to a murder we didn't know about....A man was shot to death and buried in a grave out in the woods outside of Bayside..

It was the mummified body of her mother's boyfriend...who she had accused of sexually abusing her...He had been missing for five years....He was her very first victim.

It was chilling testimony for everyone involved.

EPILOUGE-

COURTROOM A- A few days later.

Nina Rios who had been a prosecutor was now acting as a defense attorney....She was arguing Diminished Capacity and Temporary Insanity...She argued that because of this girl's brutal family life she should be spared...

Judge Kelly Ann Mercer, usually a very kind and liberal judge ruled this way...

"I wanted to be lenient with you....I really did....but you have killed nine men...You have terrorized this entire region for a month and you have shown no remorse....Other people have had brutal and bad childhoods and they have not become the monster you have become.....I have no choice but to sentence you to death by lethal injection...May God have mercy on your soul." she said..  Carmelita was the first and only person she had ever sentenced to death..She broke into tears afterwords...

"She's crying...I'm the one getting the needle." said Carmelita.

"I used to put people like you away.....I tried to save your life.....but you don't even want to save it." said Nina, walking away as the bailiff's handcuffed Carmelita and took her away...

For giving us the tip we needed to capture Carmelita.. Colt Buckley was awarded $20.000.00 instead of the $10.000.00, he thought he was getting.

"A Few Dollars More huh?" he said, laughing.

We all decided to go to the Brewery tonight to celebrate the capture of the Teddy Bear and Barbie Doll Killer.. Not only was our group there, but all of our attorney friends were also present..

 ''This is nice, us all being out like this." said Sissy.

"I know you're glad that case is over." said her husband, Eddie C.

"Oh Yes...Yess...No more bodies with Barbie Dolls on the arms or Teddy Bears.."said Carlotta.

"Her confessing saved us a trial and usually in cases like that...The person is spared the death penalty, but not her case." I said.

"You don't leave that many bodies lying in the street and get a pass...Whether you confess or not.. One, maybe two but not nine..."said Tyriq.

"God ,one more and we'd of been in double digits."said Sirena.

"And she almost escaped, after all of that hard work we put in."said Jimmy.

"She's scary, the stuff nightmares are made of.. She had no remorse at all.. Said they deserved it..She scared me." said Angie.

"Personally, I sleep better , knowing we took her off the streets." said Hop.

"That guy that turned her in...He was the brave one...She slept at his apartment for two days....She had to know that he knew who she was."said Sharon.

"Oh she knew...but she trusted him...She thought the sex would keep him loyal..but he got the sex and 20 large...Not a bad haul.."laughed Duke.

"I wonder what set her off...Made her start killing  in mass like that?" said Nelson.

"Only she knows that."said Josie.

"She'll probably take that to the grave with her."said her husband, Paris.

"Uh Uh..The TV stations are going to be after her for her story..." said Bresha.

"Yeah, she stands to make a few bucks...and for a few dollars more.. She'll confess." joked Tony.

"Fat lot of good the money will do her now...She's on death row.. I guess she can put money on her books, buy a few creature comforts.."said Alfreda.

"Yeah...I guess she could do that."said Rockland.

More Beers arrived..

And Shrimp Baskets and Fried Chicken......

"What a great night...This is someplace different...We haven't been here in a minute...I'm glad that killer is off the streets..and Sissy and her people are out tonight."said Yvette.

"You know, Babs, Hop and Sirena cornered him, tried to warn him and he wouldn't listen, he rebuffed them."said Danny Ho...

as well as condiments, mayo and hard rolls.

Olivia and Beverly's catering service had supplied this.

"I tell you, Olivia, Bev and Ms. Alfreda put together some nice events...I am so glad Sissy and her detectives got to come out and party with us tonight.." said Jazzy.
 

"Yeah...They worked that case hard."said Dabnis.

"Well it's water under the Bridge now..She's in jail where she belongs."said Kayla.

"I personally sleep better knowing she is off the streets." said Ray.

"Me too! Being a cop is tough...Especially being Murder Police." said Jessica.

"Don't I know it." said Carlotta to Jessica.  The two women cracked up laughing as Cartlotta made a sandwich.

So did Jessica's husband, Chip.

"You gonna  go up to the prison and interview Carmelita B.L.?" asked his wife ,Karen Page...

"I don't know..Frankly I'm tired of talking about the case..."said B.L.

"Who are you fooling B.L. You'll be up at Dolly Madison interviewing her."said Natalie.

Her husband David laughed... "I'm not even going to take a wager on that."

"No, that would be a sucker bet.."said Brooke.

"Oh For sure." said Sean.

Zoey kicked her heels off and rested her head on her husband's shoulders..

Lem smiled softly...

"Wonder what that girl is doing now? Her first night in prison?" wondered Renee.

"Not having as good a time as us." said her husband, Tyrell as more beers and Shrimp Baskets and Fried Chicken arrived.,

And at the Women's Correctional Center..

Carmelita sat in her cell, in Segregation...She hadn't been sent to death row yet.. Alone, staring out her cell window at the Moon..
