Assistant District Attorney Steve Levenson Liked the Judge, Julia Bruton...He also felt that she might be a bit of a pushover..He looked super-confident.
"Good Morning Jurors , I am Judge Julia Bruton........I usually preside cases in Bayside, but I'm on loan to Philadelphia for this trial. Welcome to my courtroom....Due to courtroom crowding of cases , Here as in Bayside ,we are going to bypass a preliminary hearing...We know that a crime, a heinous crime has been committed so we are going to go straight to trial.. We will have Jury selection today...So Tomorrow, we will begin with trial." said Judge Bruton.. "We will start today with introductions.." she said.
She was pretty and a pleasant woman..
"Mrs. Yvette Jones-Lockwood, Lead Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Yvette.
"Keith Jones, Attorney for the Defense your honor." I said.
"Kahlil Ahmed, Attorney for the defense, your honor." said Kahlil...
"Jade Lee Ho, Investigator for the defense." said Jade.
Steve Levenson looked us over... "Hmmmmmmm a team of babes" he thought... Kahlil and I knew the jurors...We had studied the jury pool and we knew just what kind of juror we wanted..Steve Levy had no idea that Kahlil and I already knew all there was to know about the jurors and which ones he'd find acceptable and which ones he wouldn't...Kahlil and Ihad carefully worded questions ready for each person we talked to..
"Good! Now that we are done with introductions, we'll have Voir dire....Potential Jurors are here." said Judge Bruton.
Steve Levy knew nothing about trial science...He did have questions for the jurors...
Bee Bee and Sofia were helping us today...They sat behind their laptops and whispered certain things they had talked about into our ears.. We smiled.
We wound up with an even dozen....All 12 of the jurors we said we wanted for this trial.
7 African Americans, 5 Whites, 6 females, 6 males, all fairly young and urban...
Steve Levenson realized he'd been skunked.. He had underestimated the four of us...We weren't so green after all....
He stared at Ms. Yvette, who was sitting back calmly, talking to Gloria.
"Alright...We have a jury..It's Monday ..Trial will begin promptly tomorrow Morning at 9:00 AM, Jurors, Attorneys Be on time and Be ready for trial." said Judge Bruton...."You are dismissed." she said, striking her gavel.
''We had a good day today guys...Let's go get something to eat." said Ms. Yvette.
''Sam Mother's diner?" I asked. I didn't feel like riding on the train back to our building.
''So what's the call Boss Lady?" asked Kahlil.
"It's Unanimous...Let's go." said Jade..
There was nothing like a hot home cooked meal from Sam Mother's Diner..
''Everybody...keep your wallets in your trousers and purses...Breakfast is on me..Yall did a good job in there this morning." said Ms. Yvette. It was our first time being in court since the George Barnes Trial.
"If Jetty was here ,he'd say, boyyyy this is some good eatin." I said imitating Jetty.
"No sign of Lt. Tragg...This really is going to be a good meal."laughed Jade.

MONDAY MORNING- COURTROOM D-
Attorney William Lemann was all smiles.. He acted as though it were a foregone conclusion that he had won...
"Has the jury come to a conclusion?" asked the weary Judge who had been driven to the brink of anger and frustration by one of the attorneys in this case and had taken every bit of restraint to keep from throwing William Lemann in the cooler and to keep from declaring a mis-trial..She wanted this case to come to an end...and now..
"We have your honor." said the jury foreman...
"Bailif, bring it to me." she said.
The Bailif brought it to her...She read it...There was a devilish grin on her face....
"Read it." she said.
"Count One, Wire Fraud, We the Jury find George Barnes, GUILTY as charged......
Count Two,Money Laundering, We the Jury find the defendent, George Barnes, GUILTY as charged..
Count Three, Conspiracy to Commit Securities Fraud, We the Jury find the defendent , George Barnes, GUILTY as charged.."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" he screamed in horror...
We stood in the back of the courtroom for the verdict...
"He brought this on himself..."said Ms. Yvette... "Firing us...Hell we could have kept him out of jail." she retorted..
"Couldn't have happened to a sweeter fellow." I said, smiling.
"WOWWWWWWWW!" was all Kahlil could say.....
"I think we would have put on a better defense than what he had..."said Jade.
"You guys would have probably have gotten him off." said Josie's husband, Paris, who had also come down to hear the verdict.
"I'm certain you guys would have..I'm so glad I didn't have to go up against you guys again...."said victorious Assistant District Attorney Michelle Barnes...
Celebrity Attorney William Lemann addressed the press-
"Just another day in court boys, you can't win them all...Heh heh heh..The Judge was really biased against me from the beginning...I can..I can win this on appeal.." he explained..
"Mr. Lemann, I didn't kill Mister Curtis." she stated.
"I know you didn't dear....You had no reason to...You were quite fond of him...Good Luck at your trial." said William Lemann.

The Murder Trial of Gloria Rubenstein began in Judge Julia Bruton's courtroom...She wouldn't be dealing with any of the shenanigans seen in the courtroom next door to her.. She had felt sorry for Judge Kelly Ann Mercer...A woman she had met and had coffee with on several occassions and who she veiwed as a very good judge...Always well prepared and very professional... There were no press conferences or egotistical attorneys jousting for the public spotlight...
Assistant District Attorney Steve Levenson was cocky and self assured that he had this case in the bag...even though he admittedly knew it was weak.. Lt. Tragg was not in court today, but he didn't need him to be...
Yvette Jones-Lockwood, flanked by her two female associate attorneys, Beatrice Evans-Jones and Sofia Garcia-Ahmed were proving to be a nuisance he hadn't counted on... They cross examined and eviserated every witness he presented.. They objected his motions every chance they got and they had
laws, predicates and examples from like cases to back it up...They were very prepared...More prepared than he expected....and in a few days...His weak case as it was was falling apart...
Steve Levenson next tried to paint Gloria as an opportunist...A woman who would sleep with the boss to get what she wants.....even if the boss was married...
Kahlil showed employee records.... Gloria Rubenstein had completed a full year of law school at the time she was employed by Lemann and Curtis as a para-legal...and a successful second and third year
I showed employee payroll sheets and bank account records that showed her pay did not increase at all in the two years she worked there and argued, she was getting no extra financial benefits because she had slept with Bobby Curtis.. The two people mutually liked each other..
Yvette argued on cross examination that even though it was morally wrong to sleep with someone's husband...that did not make Ms. Rubenstein a murderer....
before she and Robert Curtis began sleeping together....She had graduated from law school before their affair began...according to those who knew.. She was awaiting to take the bar.
ADA Steven Levenson had grossly underestimated both Yvette and her four young assistants...and with what little there was...her investigator, who had done an excellent job...He was very surprised...
In closing he argued that they were together at that lovers lane...and he did get sick and die while with her and all she did was get dressed and leave him there with his trousers and boxers down, exposed and dead to the world...
"WOULD ANY OF YOU WANT TO BE CAUGHT DEAD LIKE THAT?" he argued..
He wondered where the hell was Lt. Tragg? He hadn't been in court all week... Something that was not lost on us either.
"Where is Lt. Tragg? He's usually in court for these trials everyday." said Yvette.
"Yeah, something is missing, him not bitching and moaning at us about letting a guilty person go.." I said.

We brought in the Pharmacist who filled the prescription , who showed the jury the difference in pill color and sizes..
Our Theory...Someone switched the bottles...Who? We didn't know...We could only speculate...
It was flimsy, but enough to produce reasonable doubt...At least we thought so...
Lt. Tragg was in court the entire week of our defense...but he didn't bother us...He came to court and walked right by us....
ADA Steve Levenson was pissed that he had brought in such a weak case and had done almost no follow up on it...leaving him in a weak position....
"You are the worst....The absolute worst detective I have ever worked with and I hope to never work with you again..." he said angrilly....
At least that much hadn't changed....

He and Sofia had taken a walk to the nearest coffee shop and come back with coffees...we were waiting for the jury to come in...They had reached a decision.
Lt. Tragg walked in...but he didn't bother us... He had a cup of coffee.... he stood in the corner and sipped his coffee without once looking our way....This was good but unusual...
"Let's Hope not." she said.
COURTROOM C- THURSDAY MORNING!
Celebrity Attorney William Lemann was in the courtroom...He addressed us..
"Let me just say....You guys lawyered the hell out of her case....Good Luck in there and Gloria, I hope to see you back at work when this is over." he said. He gave us the thumbs up!
"ALL RISE FOR JUDGE JULIA BRUTON!!" screamed the Bailiff.
"You may be seated " she said.
We all sat down!
"Has the jury come to a decision?" asked Judge Bruton...
"We have your honor..." said the Jury Foreman.
"Bailiff bring me the decision." she said. He did and she read it. She sighed. Her face betrayed no emotion..
"Read it!" she said.
"THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF GLORIA RUBENSTEIN...
COUNT ONE, MANSLAUGHTER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT- NOT GUILTY!!
COUNT TWO, SECOND DEGREE MURDER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT, NOT GUILTY!!!
COUNT THREE, THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGE, FIRST DEGREE MURDER, NOT GUILTY!!!
"I'd like to thank the jury for their time and attention to this matter...You can exit through the rear doors and your checks will be mailed to you...Court is dismissed."said Judge Bruton.
ADA Steve Levenson, totally disgusted, said nothing to no one...He quickly exited the courthouse..
"OHHHHHHH THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH..."she said.
"Oh you're sooo welcome...Now if you really want to thank us...Pass the bar next week... I know Dabnis and Jazzy have been going over to your hotel room helping you study...along with Paris..I expect you both to pass."said Yvette.
''Wow, I almost thought we were gonna lose this...Like the stars were alligned against us." I said to Bee Bee.
"I hope he stays in love." laughed Kahlil...
''Yes, please.This was the most enjoyable case we've worked on in some time." said Jade.
And in the Judges Chambers...
"Arthur, we can't play Cops and Judges today...I've got a trial in a few minutes... Can I have a raincheck?" she giggled.
"YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANT...OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he moaned.

They and several other law school graduates who passed the bar were sworn in as attorneys by none other than Judge Kelly Ann Mercer..

"CONGRATULATIONS to you both!" said Virginia, who had closed the office and come out today...
"Gloria , with Bobby dead....I'm going to need a new partner...That partner is you....The firm is now Lemann and Rubenstein.....That goes along with a major bump in your salary.Feel free to hire an Office Manager and four other attorneys at your discretion...I'll be out of the office for the next two weeks...I've got to go back to L.A. to see about this movie...Congratulations young lady." said William Leman..

"Everything turned out alright...We got Gloria off, She and Paris passed the bar.. Guess the stars were aligned in our favor." I said.
"Stoppppppp playing."laughed her husband, Kahlil...She was going by sentencing guidelines....She could have thrown the book at him and given him 15 years Max, but since it was his first offense, she gave him the least amount of time possible, 3-5 years...With good behavior...He could be out in one year, two years tops...I doubt if he'll serve more than three years." said Kahlil.
"He should have never of fired us...We'd of kept him out of jail." said Jade.
"Maybe...Maybe not...Where is his un celebrity attorney anyway?" asked Danny.
"He's out in Los Angelas.....He made Gloria a partner and she's hiring lawyers to work their cases." said Virginia.

Lt. Tragg walked into the bar.He ,unknown to us had been at the Bar Exam...He knew that Paris, the husband of one of Olivia and Beverly's lieutenants, Josie Boyd had passed the bar and been sworn in as an attorney as well as Gloria Rubenstein, who he had arrested and charged with murder and who had been acquitted by us had also passed the bar and been sworn in as an attorney.. He saw the Wine, Champaigne, Sandwiches, Chicken ,Shrimp and an assortment of beers and drinks. He fully knew that Olivia had a caterer that supplied the food and that they ordered Curley's top shelf Champaigne and Wine.
