Prelude To Murder

PRELUDE-

PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT- Ticket Counter.
 

A Brisk Tuesday Afternoon....A pretty young woman was buying a round trip plane ticket for Miami.

when a portly man in a striped suit with a gap between his teeth and a black fedora approached her.

"Hello Karen, going somewhere?   You wouldn't happen to be going out of town would you?" he asked.

The woman, an attorney named Karen Gallagher- Lewis looked shocked at seeing him..She was up for a judgeship....He had damaging information that might all but shang hai..her chances...She couldn't afford that!

"How did you know I was here Jefferson??" she said.

"Oh Ms. Lewis, I know everything you do, every move you make, every breath you take....And uh aren't you close to the date when you owe me a payment?" he asked.

"I just paid you two weeks ago....I've been paying you $2000.00 for the past 10 months....When does this all end?" she asked.

"It can end soon baby....Pay me $20,000.00 in a lump sum and I'll give you your brother's file...lock stock and barrel and it'll be all over...How about that?"said Nudie Jefferson.

"How do I know you haven't made a copy and that you'll come back for more?" asked Karen Gallagher-Lewis.

"You don't...but I give you my word...That will be it.." said Nudie Jefferson.

"I'm supposed to take your word...a Blackmailer?" she said.

"What other choice you got babes? Heh heh heh....Tear that ticket up and go home....I'll be seeing you . Day after tomorrow meet me at Josie's Bar and Grill...That's where I drink..bring me the lump sum and I'll bring you the file." he said and he walked away...

"Okay...I'll be there." said Karen Gallagher -Lewis.

She held her head down and quietly left the airport.

Not far from the airport...was a diner, where Ms. Yvette and her husband, Gary were dining.

"The food here is good Vettie." said Gary.

"I told you....My daddy used to bring me here when I was a little girl.....Olivia told me her daddy used to bring her here too!  The food has always been good." said Ms. Yvette.

"Just one more thing you two have in common."laughed Gary as he ate.. He remembered, Olivia was with Yvette, the night they first met in Josie's

Both so young, Both so cute.... He had just wanted to get laid that night....Either of them would have done....But it was Yvette, who really tickled his fancy...He had no idea he was looking at his future wife.

While they continued to enjoy their meal, they had no idea they were being watched...

While sitting across from them was Karen Gallagher Lewis, the woman from the airport...  "Oh My God...That's Yvette Jones...I haven't seen her since shortly after law school...We passed the bar and was sworn in the same day....Me, her, Olivia, Karen Page and Sharon Harris...wow...how long ago that was..

She may be just the person I need to help me." she mused.

Miles away at our home.....We had had dinner with our neighbors, Sofia Garcia-Ahmed, her husband, Kahlil Ahmed and our neighbors, Jessica Sanchez-Burrows and Charles "Chip" Burrows...

We were watching a movie on Netflix afterwords.... The movie couldn't have been that interesting...because pretty soon all three couples were kissing passionately on our large couch....

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm babyyyyy we are missing the movie." said Bee Bee.

"What movie?" I asked as we continued kissing...

''Ayyye Papi....maybe we should be heading home...We aren't watching the movie." whispered Sofia in between slow ,sweet kisses.

"Maybe you're right....I'd rather be home making a porn movie with you." he giggled...

"You're so silly." he said.

"MMMMMMMMMMM..I can't wait until this movie is over...then we can go home and make a movie of our own papi." said Jessica.

"Ouuuuuuuuuuuu why wait...no one is watching the movie anyway...ouuuuuu.."moaned Chip.

Another Tuesday Afternoon in Philadelphia.

Karen went home....There she found her fiance waiting...

"Baby, what are you doing home?   I thought you were taking a flight to Miami?" said her fiance,

Dustin Randall.

"What are you doing in my house?" asked Karen.

"I let myself in...you gave me the key, remember?" he said. "Baby what's the matter? How come you're back so soon?" he asked.

"I'm being Blackmailed....I have been for the past 10 months....to the tune of $2000.00 a month...." said Karen.

"WHAT? $2000.00 a month??? Oh My God!!!" said her fiance..

"He told me if I pay him a lump sum of 20 large day after tomorrow in Josie's, he'll give me the file and call the whole thing off."said Karen.

"You're going to pay him?" asked her fiance.

"Yes if it will end all of this...but I've got a back up plan....Hopefully it'll work." said Karen..

The next night at Josie's...

Gus, the Owner of Josie's and head Bartender was receiving a telephone message.

"Look Nudie...I'm runnin a business here...I'm not here to be your messenger...."said Gus.

"I'm sorry Gus, just deliver this message for me, just this one...I was supposed to meet Karen Gallagher -Lewis there tonight but something has come up...Tell her to meet me at this address tomorrow night..." said Nudie.

Gus whispered the message into Karen's ear , which made her feel even better, it gave her more time.

 Karen peered around  Josie's tonight.... It was packed.. It was a Wednesday Night and it was packed.. She wrote a note on an envelope and passed it to Honey Brown..

"Honey give this to Yvette over there." she whispered and then ducked into the crowd.

"Got'cha " said Honey Brown, the Assistant Manager of  Josie's.

Honey Brown walked over to Yvette and passed her the envelope...

 "Oh My look, It's $1000.00... a retainer for Karen Gallagher-Lewis. " Yvette looked around..

"I was in law school with her...We took the bar the same day, got sworn in as attorneys the same day...We weren't super friends...but we did have a few classes together... I haven't seen her in a few years."said Yvette.

''Wow , a G for a retainer fee...She must be in trouble." said Gary.

"She's being Blackmailed it sounds like."said Ms. Yvette.

"Paying a Blackmailer is not how you get rid of them."I said.

"They almost always have something on you so damaging that you can't even go to the police without fear of your secret getting out."said Bee Bee.

"It's terrible ...I hate Blackmailers."said Sofia.

"Know anybody that loves them?" joked her husband, Kahlil, pinching her buttocks...

"Ouuuuuuuuuu stop it!"laughed Sofia.

"You need me to back you up Vettie?" asked Jade.

"Yes Jade." said Yvette. "I'm supposed to go to this address and get the file and deliver the payoff."said Yvette,.

"I don't know how that will help your friend Vettie or if it will help..."said Jade's husband, Lt. Danny Ho.

"Maybe you should take Gary with you too!" said Virginia.

"That's what I'd do." said Jetty.

At the table next to ours was Olivia Bennett-Alexander and her team.. Karen noticed them..

"Oh wow...Olivia....I've heard she has her own law firm now...Her and her niece...That must be their husbands..." she thought.

"I thought I saw Karen Gallagher over there in the corner...She's gone now."said Olivia.

 

"Someone you know?" asked Donnie Ray...

"I was in law school with her...We took the bar the same day, got sworn in as attorneys the same day...We weren't super friends...but we did have a few classes together... I haven't seen her in a few years."said Olivia.

"I saw her too! She was talking to Gus and Honey Brown and then she vanished..." said Beverly..

"I see her...She's over there by the door.. You want me to go call her?" asked Nelson..

"Nah,if she wanted to talk to us, she would have...Maybe she's busy." said Olivia.

"I think I'm going to have just one more drink."said Josie.

She was sitting on her husband, Paris's lap...Paris held her tightly and squeezed her..

"I'm with you Jo...We do have to work tomorrow."said Bresha.

"Yeah we do...When we get out of here and start walking home...The fresh air will clear our heads.."laughed Tony.

"Imagine if Lt. Tragg were here...He'd give us a ticket for walking under the influence."joked Alfreda.

"Yeah ,how about that?" laughed her husband, Rockland.

"Don't mention him....This is our safe space, Away from him." said Jazzy..
 

"Yeah, indeed...He wouldn't dare show his face in this bar." said Dabnis.

"True dat....Most of us are walking home tonight anyway.."said Kayla.

"There is safety in numbers "laughed her husband, Ray...

"Amen to that..." said Jessica, who was sitting on her husband, Chip's lap.

"We have work tomorrow." laughed Chip.

Karen looked up..."I just saw Karen Gallagher over there...She ducked out.. I know she saw us. I was in law school with her...We took the bar the same day, got sworn in as attorneys the same day...We weren't super friends...but we did have a few classes together... I haven't seen her in a few years."said Karen.

"WOW!" said her husband, B.L.

"Ouuuuuuuuuuuu ready to go home soon hubby?" asked Natalie.

"Yeah let me chug down one last beer."said David.

"Same here...One more for the road." said Brooke.

"Okay...the car is in the parking lot."said Sean..

Unlike the rest of us who would be walking.. Natalie, David,Brooke and Sean all came in one car...Brooke's car...

Zoey and her husband, Lem had driven in their car too. They lived in the opposite direction.

"Ready to go home husband?" asked Zoey, yawning.

"Yeah, throw me the keys babe. I'll drive." said Lem.

"Ummmmmm let's go home." said Renee.

"Lead the way baby. I want to hit that thing." said Tyrell.

"Mmmmmmmm you always want to hit my thing." Renee laughed......

and gave him a slow smouldering kiss...

that got even more passionate....;.

"Mmmmmmmmmmmm let's get out of here." she moaned...

"Yeah,let's." he said.

Within minutes, all of us left the bar and were on our way home..

And at Karen's house...

Private Investigator Milt Lewis gave a report to Dustin Randall

" He confronted her at the Airport and kept her from boarding the plane...He then asked her to meet him at Josie's tonight...but he didn't show up....I did see her there ,passing notes to Honey Brown, the Assistant Manager...and she passed this envelope to a third party...but I didn't see who the third party was." he said.

"Hmm, she said she had a back up plan....He didn't show up huh?  TYhat means he's moved his operation someplace else huh?" said Dustin..

"I have his new address." said Milton Lewis.

"You are good."laughed Dustin...

"Will you be needing anything else?" asked Private Investigator, Milt Lewis...

Dustin passed him an envelope with $3000.00 dollars in it..

"No...you've done quite enough.  Thank you Mr. Lewis." laughed Dustin.

III-

We all were home after a night out at Josie's.

After we all got home that night..We were all settled down with our significant others.. What better way to spend nice night out than to be making love.?

Bee Bee was wearing another sheer see through Baby doll.....She had just taken a hot shower and walked into our bedroom..

My eyes popped out of my head..She had on a new bra and matching panties that I hadn't seen before.

before they too were making sweet love for the next EIGHT TO NINE HOURS!

At Ms. Yvette and Gary's house

"Vettie I just can't get over you.."sighed Gary ,staring at his sexy wife..

Nudie Jefferson answered the door...This was the second time this afternoon someone had rang his doorbell..Nobody was supposed to know where he was yet....He was pleased with what he saw...

"Hello...My name is Yvette Jones-Lockwood....I'm an Attorney, could I come in?" said Yvette,showing him her ID and her Bar association card. "This is my investigator, Jade Lee-Ho." she added.

Nudie looked the two beautiful women up and down and then stepped aside so they could come in...

He was all smiles... "So uh tell me what are two beautiful women like yourselves doing here? What do you want of me?" he said.

"I am here representing my client.....I have an envelope here with a substantial amount of money in it...

earmarked for you..but you of course have to produce a file...The Gary Gallagher file to be exact.."said Yvette...

Jade stood by silently....

Nudie Jefferson looked surprised..

"You won't believe this...but I don't know what you ladies are talking about." he said.

"Oh well, sorry to have wasted your time." said Yvette as she and Jade left with the envelope, which she put in her purse... They walked a block away where Yvette's husband, Gary an investigator for the D.A.'s office was standing outside the car with a telephoto lense..

"I take it he didn't bite.. That's smart on his part...Just in case you were wearing a wire and or working with the cops...He's a slick one." said Gary...

Meanwhile inside the house...

"I suppose you heard all of that huh?  She's working with a lawyer huh?  Those two babes might have been wearing a wire." said Nudie Jefferson..

"I heard a lot of stuff you little weasel, like how you been hittin my fiance up for $2000.00 a month...I told you $1000.00, you were charging her twice as much and skimming off the top eh? and planning a big $20,000.00 score behind my back eh?  and then you moved here, like I couldn't find you....You theiving little punk I oughta shoot you right now..." said Karen's fiance..Dustin.

"But you won't.....I have information in my safe deposit box and a lawyer with instructions to deliver it to your fiance if anything untoward should happen to me...Like your wife to be finding out that you were the mastermind of this scheme...That you gave me the Gallagher file and that after you drained her of what little money she had left...You and a cute little honey planned to slip to the Caymen islands...never to be seen again..."laughed Nudie,.

"Got it all worked out huh?  Well you're wrong...I found your lawyer...

He didn't strike me as the type of man who would challenge my .44.....He gave me the combonation and location of your safe deposit box...I got it all, The file and the little note you wrote and the incriminating photos...You got nothing...Now give me all of the money you absconded from my fiance.." said Dustin...

Nudie Jefferson went in his drawer and gave him $20,000.00 dollars in cash... Dustin stuffed it in a sack, then quietly left out the front door.

Nudie stomped his foot...He was livid..

and if I see you or hear from you again...I'm coming back....and I'll kill you." said Dustin as he walked across the street, got in his car and pulled off....

Later on that night....

There was an explosion that leveled Nudie Jefferson's house....

Several Fireman showed up...

"Oh my god...that was quite an explosion....."said a crime scene investigator..

"We've got a body.....it's so bady burned we can't make identification yet...."said Dr. Marcy Martin...

"I can tell you one thing...The fire didn't kill him...HE'S GOT A .45 SLUG IN HIS HEAD!" said Dr. Hazel Baylor..

"I found a drivers license amongst the ruins... it reads Eugene Jefferson....and if that's the Eugene Jefferson I know, he's known on the streets as "Nudie Jefferson, a three time loser, Drug dealer,Theif, Confidence man...No great loss." said Lt. Tragg..

Meanwhile, halfway across town...

"It's time to tell Karen that he wouldn't deal with us..." said Ms. Yvette..

"Yeah...he didn't take the bait.."said Jade.

The three of them walked to the door.. It was open and it was eerily silent..

Gary walked in.....and there sprawled on the floor was 

the dead body of Dustin Randall.....

Gary felt for a pulse..

"He's dead!! and from the body warmth....He hasn't been dead that long...about an hour...Don't touch anything ladies. Let's get out of here...

"Oh My God!!! This must be Karen's fiance or boyfriend.....Where is she?" asked Yvette.

"She's not here that's for sure...Come on...let's get out of here... Jade, call Homicide..."said Gary..

"On it!  What an afternoon.."sighed Jade.

"Just what have I gotten myself into." said Yvette aloud to no one in particular.
