 COURTROOM A- TUESDAY NIGHT 830 PM

''When you guys didn't come for me this morning, I thought you had forgotten me...I've never heard of this night court thing." said our client, William Lehmann..

''We didn't forget you..We said Tuesday...We didn't say what time." said Olivia.

 

"Night Court operates two nights a week, Tuesday Night and Thursday Night...." I said.

"We had the weekend and a whole lot of time to get an early court appointment.."said Beverly.

"All of the Attorneys in the know or just plain down on their luck use it." said Nelson.

''Don't even bother to wager as to which we are."added Josie with a smile.

"You might say we are both." said Bresha...

Our Bail bondsman, Gus Johnson was with us....

NIGHT COURT-

William Lehmann was in court with us tonight..nearly one week after he was arrested.Charged with Murdering his former client, Lenny Flabberghast , who was himself about to go on trial for an unrelated murder.

In Philadelphia, Night Court only operates two nights a week....Tuesday and Thursday, Tonight was Thursday...and fortunately...We got an arraignment date of 8:00 pm. 

The Judge in this case would not be the Judge in the actual case....

Lt. Tragg was not there... He was probably snuggled up with Judge Kelly Ann at her loft...

"MMMMMMMM KELLY ANN!" he moaned..

"OHHHHHHH ARTHUR!" she coooed..

"UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!" they both moaned in unison as they lie on her soft sheets, kissing like kissing was going out of style,.

Night court was too low profile for him anyway....No witnesses...No media..and a bunch of  Judges  and ADA's who were mostly older Judges and ADA's about to retire...It was lightweight. It was in session from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays...We were quite fortunate to get a date.

The ADA that did show up was not going to be the ADA that tried the case...He had only the basic out line of the case at hand... He basically wanted to go home...So he didn't really put up much of a fight.

 

Olivia, Beverly and Nelson presented 24 charactor witnesses .who all argued his sterling and good charactor..

 

Josie argued that William Lehman was not a flight risk, despite his celebrity and finances and that he desperately wanted to have his day in court to fight these egregious charges.

Finally Bresha argued that Mr. Lehman was a long standing member of the Pennsylvania Bar and an officer of the court and he deserved to be released from custody pending his trial...

The Judge agreed that while we made valid points, due to the serious nature of the crime, he was releasing him on 250,000.00 bail...

We thought this was very exorbitant, but William Lehmann had money,l ots of it.. He signaled to the Bail Bondsman to pay it.

And he did....And William Lehman walked out of the courthouse into the night time sky a free man!

We all walked over to Sam Mother's Diner where we enjoyed a late night meal.. Eggs to order, Hash Browns, Sausages, Orange Juice and Coffee...

"OHHHHHHHHH THIS IS SOME GOOD FOOD, AFTER BEING LOCKED UP AND EATING THAT JAILHOUSE SLUDGE!" said William.. "Olivia, you and your young attorneys are brilliant, the epitome of professionalism... Each one of you came with receipts as they say and presented your case well...I applaud you." said William Lehmann. 

"Well thank you...here is my card, with my address..Tomorrow stop by the office..We need to talk and begin to build your defense."said Olivia.

 

"Right now I imagine you want to get home, get a shower and get some sleep.." I said.

"Oh you've never lied...." said an exhausted, but happy William Lehman...

"And William, No Away Games...You can't go running off to L.A. or anywhere until this mess is cleared up."said Beverly...

"That's right...If you leave town it will be seen as jumping bail...and they can lock you up until your trial

and you don't want that." said Nelson.

"You're absolutely right."said William. He squeezed Josie's leg a bit..

She removed his hands and whispered... "You already have a girlfriend and I have a husband who wouldn't appreciate that."

William looked like he had swallowed a canary....

Bresha saw the entire thing...She smiled...

We finally made it home...

At Home in our bathroom ,I practically ambushed Olivia.

"Okay, so Lenny Flabberghast, your client...fired you that afternoon and he took on James Solitz as his attorney...He called you to Solitz's office to inform you that your services would no longer be needed...What did you do next?" I asked.

"I went to this rooftop bar in the same building...It's called LUPO'S... A popular night spot." he said.

"Oh My God!!! We were there that night." said Beverly..

"Yeah we had just won our last case...and our client took us there and treated us to some cold ones." said Nelson.

"Yeah well I was there in a corner...I bought a bottle of Tequilla and I downed it... I charged it on my Mastercard...It's all there... I was there until the place closed at 2:00 am.  Then I called an UBER to take me home." said William.

"If you charged the Bar Tab and the Uber...That is all on your card and can be verified...I can track down the UBER driver for the night." I said.

"He took me home and I was there all night... Laura called me at 3:00 in the morning... I don't know where from..She was hysterical..She said she came home and found her husband dead, murdered in the shower...I was so drunk and out of it , I collapsed in the bed and drifted off to sleep."said William.

"Hmmmmm where was Laura that night?" asked Josie.

"She said she was out with some friends at a bar up in Northern Liberties called "The Atlantic Bar" said William.

"We've been there." said Bresha.

"I can check all of that out..." I said.

"You don't think she had anything to do with this do you?" he asked.

"No but I have to eliminate all suspects, check every angle." I said.

"You used to be a cop didn't you?" asked William.

"I was a Homicide Detective." I said.

''And now you're an investigator for a lawyer....Not bad..Not a bad career choice...You probably make more money too!" said William.

"I do." I said.

"I can tell. You couldn't afford tailored suits like that or those expensive shoes on a cops salary.."said William.

''Donnie Ray was a sharp dresser when I met him...A Homicide Cop who doubled as a Jazz Musician."said Olivia with pride.

"Now comes the fun part... We want you to disable the GPS on your phone and your laptop and your tablet and turn them over to us...We are going to lock them in our safe." said Beverly..

"This is a Burner Phone....Write this number down, memorize it...If you need to contact us...contact us at this number...Don't call our business phones or our personal phone numbers."said Josie and passed him the phone.

"And this is a Portal...you can contact us and get updates on your case daily...and you don't have to come here... Neither of these devices are traceable.." said Bresha.

"And now the jackpot question...How long have you been seeing Lenny Fabberghast's wife, Laura?" asked Olivia.

"You don't miss anything Olivia....You knew that was her huh?" said William Lehmann.

"Yes...as soon as I saw her...I knew who she was."said Olivia.

"I met her two years ago....Ironically, I represented her..I won a nice settlement for her....Naturally being her attorney we spent a lot of time together, talked a lot...and uh er ruh one thing lead to another...and -"

he said.

"You wound up in bed.." said Beverly.....

Nelson smiled and hung his head.....

So did Josie and I...

Bresha smiled and looked at Olivia.

Olivia just shook her head.

"YES!  We wound up in bed....She began to tell me how unhappy she was in her marriage and before we knew it...We were meeting two nights a week in a hotel room and then a third night in a motel....You have to understand how shocked I was when her husband asked me to represent him two years later..He was being charged with murdering his partner in his business...They're both dead now so I can tell you..Their business was close to being bankrupt....and their investors had pulled out...They barely had enough money to make payroll for the next month...They got involved with a shady charactor from Atlantic City who gave them the money they needed in addition to a "silent partnership"...You know how that goes.....This shady charactor was laundering money through their company....Dirty Money...

The FBI got ahold of this figure and opened a probe.... Fabberghast's partner got cold feet and decided to turn in State's Evidence.. On the eve of his testimony, he was shot to death....Lt. Tragg arrested Lenny Fabberghast and charged him with murder... Lenny Fabberghast hired me to represent him... Two days after I signed on to represent him...I realized who he was...Laura's husband...!!! I was shocked.. She was shocked...but said to be cool, he didn't know anything.." said William.

"But he did know...One of the reasons he fired you because you were "slobbering over his wife."I said.

"WOW! You are good!!!...You must have talked to that rat, Solitz, who he hired to replace me...Yes, he knew..He hired a private investigator, Bert Vandenberg..

who reported back to him....I found this out after I was fired...Right after I was fired...He knew...Yes he knew...." sighed William Lehmann.

"Mr. Lehmann, we don't judge....We don't Judge...but we have to know everything involved in whatever case we take up....One thing we don't want to do is walk into court and get surprised....Now is there anything else we need to know?" asked Olivia.

"No, you guys know quite a bit...A Bit more than I was willing to tell...Sign of good Attorneys." William laughed nervously...

"Go Home William ,keep your nose clean. And remember...No away games...No going to L.A. ,No leaving town period...Keep a low profile." said Nelson.

"Duly Noted." said William Lehmann as he left us.

In the suburban enclave that he called home... Attorney and now murder defendant William Lehmann answered his door after returning home from our meeting.

"It's you!   " he said.

"Is that anyway to greet me?  A few days ago you had a boner for me that wouldn't quit." said Laura

''Damn! these guys are treating him as bad as they treat the brothers." said Paris.

Rockland smiled broadly....

 "Olivia I'm glad they asked you to defend William Lehman...He's the lawyer that was hired by George Barnes after he fired us... I didn't want anything to do with him." said Yvette.

"He didn't personally do anything to you...That was George Barnes." said Gary...

"Besides Vettie....Your former client George Barnes got convicted and sent to prison...I heard he just got out."said Olivia, consoling Yvette..

"Good for him...He got what he deserved..."said Yvette.

"I remember him, he actually tried to get us to represent us again...but it was too late, we were already in the middle of another case." said Keith Jones.

"I laughed out loud when I heard ole George Barnes got convicted..."said Bee Bee.

"He got 10 years....looks like he only served 5 years." said Sofia.

"That's about right...He was a first time offender with no prior record....He was eligible for an early release." said Kahlil. 

"Yeah...he was...He got out last week." said Jade.

"Hopefully he'll behave himself." said Danny Ho.

"You need to behave yourself...OUUUUUUUU!" said Virginia, removing Jetty's hands from beneath her skirt.

Renee ordered a bottle of Tequilla. She and her husband, Tyrell were killing the bottle..

"I love Tequilla , but I can't drink it all the time..."said Renee.

"It gets you horny doesn't it?" asked her husband, Tyrell.

"YESSSSSS!  But I don't mind....because I'm with you..." said Renee, smiling innocently at her husband.

Lee was sitting on her husband's lap, almost out of it...

"You're going to have to put her to bed when you get home tonight...She's out of it.."laughed Nina.

"The Buses are on their way....The Fresh air will revive her." said Carlos as he quaffed his last drink down.
