 It was the beginning of the second week of the trial of Kathleen Decker-

A wealthy young socialite on trial for murdering her husband...A Husband 25 years her senior and wealthy...

Our favorite Judge, Kelly Ann Mercer was presiding...

My wife, Attorney Olivia Bennett-Alexander was not the lead attorney...She was second chair....

The Lead Attorney was an old high school chum of hers, Corrine Walton-

A Very attractive woman who had graduated from High School with Olivia...She had gone on to Harvard Law School and had worked in New York City and Los Angelas... cheifly as a litigator...This was her first case involving criminal law... her associate, 

Romeo Flanders had suggested she contact us as consultants......To his surprise he found out that Corrine knew Olivia, from high school.. And thus...we became consultants on this very controversial case.. 

 

There was a lot of drama involved in this case-

The Assistant District Attorney was none other than Diane "Hot Panties " Baronski...She was feeling bad because her long time partner and assistant chair, Jake "Lawyer Bae "Patais 

was no longer her partner...They had ended their romantic relationship awhile back and their professional partnership.. He was trying cases on his own now...Diane missed him and desperately wanted him back.

When Kathleen had been arrested...She called Corrine...who was a personal friend... 

Corrine with no experience in Criminal law represented Kathleen at her arraignment... She presented no charactor witnesses at all....

The Judge gave Kathleen 1.5 million dollar bail..a High amount indeed.

The Bail Bondsman was there and Kathleen easily made bail.....

Young Attorney Romeo Flanders said to her...

"Corrie, you don't have much experience in Criminal Defense Law do you?" he asked.

"To Tell you the truth...I don't have any....but Kathleen is a friend of mine...I had to help her.."said Corrine Walton..

"Then I know just the people to help you..." said Romeo...

II-

IT ALL BEGAN TWO WEEKS AGO!

Breakfast was being served.

Omelettes to Order , Shrimp and Grits, Hash browns, Sausages..

Hot Coffee and Orange Juice..

"Come on Everybody, Breakfast is Served ." said Alfreda...

"Ummmm everything smells delicious."said Olivia.

 

"Those Cheese Grits with Shrimp is like a taste of home..."I said.

"Mmmmmmmm everything is delish."said Beverly, loading an Omelette, Hash browns and Sausage on her plate and Nelson's.

"Thank you baby." said Nelson as he sat down...

"Ouuuuuuuuuuuu this is soooo good."said Josie.

'Sit down Ms. Alfreda...You and Donnie Ray have done enough."said Bresha.

"Thank you baby....I just wanted  to make sure you guys were straight."said Alfreda.

Just then our doorbell monitor rang...

"Oh who is it? Can't we enjoy breakfast?" asked Olivia.

She saw a familiar face!

 

"Corrie? Corrine?? Oh My God!!! I'm buzzing you in...We are on the third floor." said Olivia.

Corrine and Romeo Flanders Walked up....

"Oh My God! Corrine Walton, how long has it been?    hey Everybody, this is Corrine Walton...We went to Girls High together..She's a Big time Attorney now..."laughed Olivia, hugging her good friend..

"Not as Big time as you Olivia...I've seen you and your team on the Television and on the news, Always trying a big landmark case.."said Corrine.. "This is my associate, Attorney Romeo Flanders."said Corrine.

"Hello Everybody...Heyyyyy Nelson." he said.

"I remember you, from the Public Defenders Office...That was a lifetime ago." said Nelson.

 

"Yeah, I was starting there right before you left....You showed me the ropes.... I'm a Senior Associate Attorney with the Harris Group now."said Romeo.

"Nicceeeeeee!" said Nelson.

"He's cute!" whispered Josie to Bresha and Beverly.

"Yes he is.." said Bresha, chuckling...

Beverly smiled.....

"Well pull up a seat and join us....There is plenty of food..." said Olivia..

''So you live here and your law practice is here?" asked Corrine.

"My husband, Donnie Ray and I live on this floor... and my Niece, Beverly and her husband, Nelson live on the floor below us and on the first floor is our conference room, a kitchen, our law library and our all purpose media room..."  said Olivia.

"Wow girl...How did you swing this?" asked Corrine.

"I divorced well.." said Olivia..

The entire room burst into laughter...

''Sweet" said Romeo. 

"Let me introduce you to my staff......This is my husband, Former New Orleans Homicide Detective, Donnie Ray Alexander."

 

"Hello, pleased to make your acquaintence.." I said.

''And my niece and partner in crime, Attorney Beverly West-East..."said Olivia.

"YOUR NIECE?  Sure she's not your little sister...You two look close in age."said Corrie.

''We get that all the time...We are Nine years apart in age actually."said Beverly...  This is my husband,

Attorney Nelson East." said Beverly...

"Hello "said Nelson...

"These are my two associate attorneys... Mrs. Josephine Boyd and Mrs. Bresha Billips."said Olivia.

"Hello." said Josie.

"Hello" said Bresha.

"And Last but not least...This is my office manager and Beverly's Mother...Mrs. Alfreda Cambridge."said Olivia.

"Hello.."said Alfreda.

"You and Olivia aren't sisters?" asked Corrine...

"No but Beverly is the child of the union between myself and Olivia's older Brother, James...We are not together...He and his wife are out on the west coast and my husband and I live across the street." said Alfreda.

"Ohhhhh wowwwww, what an arrangement..."laughed Corrine..

We all enjoyed a big hearty breakfast and retired downstairs to our conference room.

III-

We gave Corrine the tour of our Office Depot...First showing her ,Nelson and Beverly's Domicile and then our law library and media room...

Finally winding up in our conference room-

"WOWWWW Olivia this is some set up you have here....Incredible!!!  I love it...I am so impressed..." said Corrine.

"I kind of lost track of you after High School...I know you did undergrad at Lasalle and then I saw you at Christmas , our senior year...and you told me you were going to Harvard....what happened to you after then....You know my story...I had a bad marriage, two pregnancies that ended in miscarriages. and a stint at the Public Defenders office, then I was an Associate Attorney at Bang and Roach, where I was very happy...and then a divorce...a big settlement and this...My own law practice and all of these beautiful people who make me successful....So what happened to you?" asked Olivia.

"Me?  I went to and graduated from Harvard Law School....I moved to New York City and was an Associate Attorney at Pearson & Hardman for three years....Then I moved out West, to Los Angelas, where I was Senior Associate Attorney at Black & Lane, specializing in Entertainment law...I was there for seven years...Now I'm back in Philadelphia , working for the Harris Group....I'm a Senior Associate Attorney there. I specialize in Corporate Litigation...My close friend, Kathleen Decker , the wife of one of our biggest clients has gotten herself in trouble...So I felt I had to help her...Thing is...I don't have any training or knowledge of criminal defense which is why we are here with you guys...Olivia ,I want you to be second chair on this case and the rest of your team to run this case....It's more up your alley..." said Corrine.

"I was a Public Defender.....I have Criminal Defense experience.."said Romeo Flanders. 

"Good , We can use you..."said Olivia.

 

"Is Ms.Decker still locked up?" I asked.

"No she was arraigned a few days ago and released on bail." said Romeo Flanders... "We told her to keep a low profile." he added.

"Good, bring her here so we can meet her and talk to her face to face.."said Beverly.

"We like to get a feel for our clients...Their disposition, Their story, what have you."said Nelson.

"We'll take it from there...We'll get the police report, crime scene photos, Autopsy reports and everything else concerning this case.." said Josie.

"The Quicker we get started, the better chance she has.."said Bresha.

"Boyyyyy Olivia, you've got a well oiled machine here..."gushed Corrine.

"That's why they win cases.." said Alfreda Proudly...

That night Olivia sat on the side of the bed in her white lace baby doll with her laptop on...She was looking up her old friend, Corrine..

"I notice there is no mention of marriage or a man in her life...Though that might not show up on a resume." I said sitting beside her and putting my arms around her..

"Corrie was always driven, She was Valedictorian of our High School Graduating class... Valedictorian of her class at Lasalle and then went to Harvard Law School...She was on the Harvard Law Review and got her Juris Doctorate from Harvard...I mean wow!  She's worked for two esteemed law firms...One In New York and the other in Los Angelas and she comes to me for help...Double wow."gushed Olivia. 

"You're no slouch yourself...You went to an IVY League Law School and you have your own practice....That's nothing to sneeze at..." I said.

ADA Diane Baronski had put on one of her best cases yet, calling almost 25 witnesses to date..

I had to hand it to him, Lt. Tragg had done one of his most thorough investigations to date..

Diane began to wonder who was the lead attorney, Corrine or Olivia?

I was wondering something about Corrine too!  She wasn't the first Attorney to come to us for help because they didn't have experience in criminal defense...but it was something about her, a fear...an unnatural fear she seemed to have about being in court, open court...She was basically a litigator...

She worked in conference rooms....A courtroom was more open....and there was something about Corrine ...Something about her that made me wonder....as a former Detective, I always trusted my hunches.

That Night after trial...

Diane took a chance and went to Jake's condo...

"I'll think about it." said Jake..

"Okay...My door is always open.."said Diane..

And So...The Next Day, Jake showed up in court as Co counsel..

Much to Diane's delight..

"Well well well..The band is back together.."thought Lt. Tragg snarkily... 

"Looks like the band is back together." said Olivia, smiling.

 

"It would seem so." I said.

"The Power of the Pan-Tays...She must have given him some last night."remarked Beverly...

"And it must have been good." said Nelson...

"Like you say Bev, the Power of the Pantays..."laughed Josie.

Bresha laughed too.

Corrine smiled...laughing at the chatter

"Things are the same no matter where I am, East Coast or West Coast...The out of court drama." she said.

I kept staring at her....Something about her was a bit off.
