TWO DAYS LATER- THE BRIDGE BUILDING!

We were having breakfast in our building's modern cafeteria... It was a celebratory morning.

I was enjoying a big stack of Pancakes with strawberries...

"You gonna eat all those pancakes Hot Stuff? " asked my wife,  Bee Bee.

She was enjoying an omelette....

"I'll share one with you." I laughed..

"Oh just one huh?" laughed Sofia...as she enjoyed her waffle..

Kahlil was paying us no mind....

He was enjoying his blueberry pancakes....

"Oh Hi Ms. Yvette." said Bee Bee.

"Good Morning People....Well you guys kind of got robbed of the victory you would have wanted...Over two very difficult attorneys...Brenda Jordan and H.Stanley Stanlison...but a win is a win..

Your client, Warren Hutchinson gets to keep his company ,lock stock and barrell and since his wife is deceased...There will be no divorce settlement..He wins all the way around. Good Job guys...Mr. Hutchinson is quite happy and he's keeping us on retainer...

The partners are extremely happy with the work you guys did and you can look for a bonus in your checks this week....I'm very proud of you." said Ms. Yvette.

She could have cut us all off by this time, but when she became partner and was told to hire staff...We four were the only people she considered....Along with Jade and Ms. Virginia.

"That was something eh?  Both Mrs. Hutchinson and that Snake, Curt Jessperson murdered...caught in the nude on the living room couch....Oh My God!" said Jade.

"I thought something was going on between those two...I thought so..."said Sofia.

"So did I..." I said.

"Brenda told me that Jesperson was making overtures towards her..."said Yvette.

"What a dog!   Anyway, Good Job Kids." said Ms. Virginia.

"Heyyyy you helped us a lot with our research...Thank you again!" said Kahlil.

"Yes thank you!" said Bee Bee.

"Just doing my part as a team member."said Virginia.

"You're a very valuable team member Virginia."said Ms. Yvette, hugging her.

Nina Rios, her boyfriend, Carlos Diaz and newly minted attorney, Lee Phillips worked down the street at the Women's Law Center...but recently they were given building passes and started eating with us.

"You guys did a great job and were on the verge of winning despite the tragedy.." said Nina.

"Yes, well lawyered...You were on the verge of winning and you were kind of robbed. in a way."said Carlos.

"On a lighter note...I hope everybody will be at my rooftop party Saturday..."said Lee, gushing.

"I'll be there with bells on."said Jazzy.
 

"Last time I was there was when Sofia and Kahlil and Bee Bee and Keith got engaged." said Dabnis.

"Yeah that was the last time we were there."said Kayla.

"Boyyy that was epic...It was in the middle of the week and we partied like it was a Friday Night."laughed Ray.

"I remember."said Jessica.

"I remember too, how exhausted I was the next morning at work." said Chip..

"I remember it too!  That was the last rooftop party..."I said, hugging Bee Bee.

"Sofia and Kahlil got married and moved out and a few weeks later...You and I got married and moved out." said Bee Bee to me.

"Yeah...We had been in that building two years..We had a lot of fun in that building..."said Kahlil.

"Yeah a lot of fun...Good times." said Sofia.

"You and Gary got married around that time too ,didn't you Vettie?" asked Karen.

"Yes...A few weeks before they all did.." said Ms. Yvette,.

"WOW!!!  THE HISTORY OF THIS GROUP!  I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SATURDAY!" said Natalie.

"Now we'll all be apart of it." said David.

"I'm looking forward to Saturday afternoon."said Brooke.

"Yes, I am too!" said Sean.

"Our case is over....We didn't get the desired result...but we got paid handsomely just the same."said Zoey.

"Hey ,it wasn't bad..Our client didn't lose a thing...In fact, he fared better than he would if we had of uh "Won" said Lem..

"Guys and Gals....Just bring yourselves..Olivia, Alfreda and I are supplying the food..." said Renee.

"And you know me...I'll supply the booze." said Jetty.

Renee's husband Tyrell laughed "But of course."

"Man the day is just starting and I already don't feel like going to work."said Tony, yawning.

"I know what you mean man." laughed Paris.

While we were enjoying breakfast miles away...At Central Booking..In the "Fishbowl" the nickname the detectives gave to their interrogation room..

"You're in a lot of trouble Hutchinson....We got you cold for two murders....That's a Capital Offense..Death Penalty pal...Make it easy on yourself and confess..save the Commonwealth a lengthy trial and they'll go easy on you...You'll get Life No Parole....It's better than a needle."said Lt. Tragg.

"You got the wrong guy...I didn't kill anybody...I swear..."said Warren Hutchinson.

Talking to Lt. Tragg was like talking to a brick wall. 

"Look Jessperson had just bought up your company...The Company your Father and your Uncle built and left to you...and to make it worse...He was bangin your wife, who was suing you for divorce...You were about to be penniless...broke..and you catch the two of them together, bangin on your living room couch....so you got a gun and slaughtered them....Any man would understand... You might get off with a temporary insanity defense....but you did this...We have your gun.

We found it where you left it...On the floor...It passed ballistics...It's the murder weapon and it's registered to you....We know you did this...Make it easy on yourself."said Lt. Tragg.

"I didn't do it...I swear!!!...I bought that gun for the house, for protection...I gave it to Katherine...I showed her how to shoot it..but I didn't kill her...I didn't kill Jesperson...I swear...I didn't kill anybody." said Warren Hutchinson.

"AWWWW COME ONNNNN!" said Lt. Tragg.

"I'm afraid this interview is over Lieutenant....Warren ,not another word!" said a well dressed young man.

"Who are you?" asked Warren...

"Teddy Weisbord is my name...I'm your attorney....You have a friend in a high place who reached out for me."he said.

We had Dinner with our pals Olivia and Beverly and their crew...

It was kind of like old times when it was just our two groups..

 

 "Olivia, Donnie Ray, Alfreda, once again...an excellent meal." said Ms. Yvette.

"WOWWWW!  I'm full." said Gary, who ate most of his meals at Sam Mother's or relied on Yvette bringing him home food from our cafeteria that was rewarmed...It was nice eating a good home cooked meal for a change."

"Thanks again for inviting us..;.Reminds me of the old days when we'd have dinner here and then walk it off for six blocks back to our apartments." I said.

"Those were good times."laughed Bee Bee.

"Now we just walk across the street."laughed Sofia.

"Everything was just delicious.Thank you again." said Kahlil.

"Yes thank you." said Jade.

"Olivia, Alfreda, Donnie Ray...You're the best...My compliments to the chefs." said Jade's husband, Danny Ho.,who like Gary  ate most of his meals at Sam Mother's or relied on Jade bringing him home food from our cafeteria that was rewarmed...It was nice eating a good home cooked meal for a change.

"Mmmmmmm everything was just delish." said Virginia.

"My compliments to the chef." laughed Jetty. 

"Hey it was the least we could do...We are all old friends...It's nice having you guys over for dinner." said Olivia, who loved the company.

 

"We just finished the McCormick Case and you guys just finished your big case...We can all relax a bit." said Donnie Ray.

"Yeah relax until the next big case comes sliding down the pike ." said Beverly, not knowing how right she was , at least concerning us.

"If this nice balmy weather holds , everything will be perfect for Saturday Night eh?" laughed Nelson.

"Yeah! I can't wait.." said Josie.

"Me neither....Good Food, Plenty to drink..Music...That roof is gonna be lit."said Paris.

"Wow, we didn't know you guys the last time you did this, so we are excited, very excited." said Bresha.

"Yeah ,sounds like fun."said her husband, Tony....

"Hopefully, we'll have more than one this summer." said Alfreda.

"Yeah, it could become a weekly event." said Rockland.

We all were home after a work day...

After we all got home that night..We were all settled down with our significant others.. What better way to end a long work day like we had  than to be making love.?

Judge Charlotte Peterson was presiding...

The Bailiff passed her the docket-

"CASE 101- COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA VS. WARREN R. HUTCHINSON, MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE." she said.

"Assistant District Attorney James Taylor (Jumpshot Jim) representing the Commonwealth your honor.

Mr. Hutchinson is accused of a Capital Crime  and represents a danger to the community as a flight risk and to himself...I am asking that bail be rescinded and he be held until trial." said Jumpshot Jim.

"Teddy Weisman for the Defense your honor.... This is ridiculous...My client has no prior criminal record ,not even a parking ticket...He is not a threat to himself...There is no proof of this and certainly not to the community...We are going under the presumption of innocent until PROVEN GUILTY correct??he argued.

He presented 10 charactor witnesses...Attorneys, Businessmen and Politicians to vouch for Warren's sterling charactor.

"Mr.Weisman you make a very credible argument and under different circumstances I would arrange for bail and possibly release your client on his own recognizance...but this is a Double Homicide.. A very serious Capital Case.... I can not in good conscience release your client to the public...So I sorrowfully have to rule that he be held in custody until the time of his trial." said Judge Charlotte Peterson...

"YES!  She lives in my girlfriend's building...I don't really know her...but I know I like her kind of  ruling....That guy's lawyer is as slick as canned grease...but not slick enough..heh heh heh!" laughed Lt. Tragg.

"Nice to win one for a change....but I know this was motivated by politics...It's an election year and if she had released him...She'd of been tarred and feathered in the press and the jury of Public Opinion...I'd of made sure of that." said a jubilant Jumpshot Jim.

"Sorry kid...Hang tight...I'm going to see what I can do for you." said Teddy Weisman.

"Okay, but who are you?  I already had attorneys.." asked Warren Hutchinson..

"I told you...A Friend reached out.....I'm on the case...Just hang in there...Sorry I couldn't get you off." said Teddy Weisman.

"Heyy guys and Gals, straight from the Orient or the closest thing to it...Chinese Bobs.... Lunch is served..."joked Virginia.

Several Boxes of Chinese Take Out was placed on the conference table desk... We were eating in today..

Having a working lunch....

"Mmmmmmmm it smells good."said Bee Bee.

"Heyyy I was watching the news in my office ...Guess what?  Warren Hutchinson was arrested and charged with the murders of Curt Jesperson and his estranged wife, Kathy Hutchinson... They were found in the living room of their house, in the nude on the living room couch...Shot to death." I said.

"Nah...I was around Warren a lot... He's no killer...This aint him.." said Kahlil.

"I agree with my husband....This isn't him...The Police got the wrong guy." said Sofia.

"It wouldn't be the first time." said Bee Bee...

"I would think he would have hired you guys...You did so well with his case." said Yvette.

"He got himself a lawyer named  Teddy Weisman." I said.

"Teddy Weisman?

I know him....He's as slick as canned grease and he doesn't come cheap either..  I suppose your client could afford him...He's pretty good.."said Virginia.

"He wasn't good enough to Free him..He was arraigned yesterday....The Judge ruled that he be held over until trial..She denied bail." said Jade.

"Wowwwwwww!   He should've called us." said Yvette as we chowed down on our Chinese food.

IV-

That afternoon we all headed home once again on the train. A 45 minute ride from our downtown workplace to our homes..

''Wow remember when we used to make that drive to and fro everyday?  This sure beats that huh?" asked Jazzy.
 

"Sure does..Takes the wear and tear off of our cars.."laughed Dabnis.

"Moving into our neioghborhood was a godsend...I got to live near my cousins, Olivia and Beverly and see them everyday..and the neighborhood was everything she told me it would be, Shopping centers, Clubs, Movies, Restaurants...Oh my God." gushed Kayla.

"Plus brand new houses...and living around all of you good people." said her husband, Ray.

"I used to drive up here to go to Josie's and Aqua Bar and Stoleys and dream of living around here."said Jessica...

"And when we got married...Olivia introduced us to her realtor...Who sold us our house...It was a great move." said Chip.

"I was the last one to be convinced...but I'm glad I was..   I was lonely in my Condo down town...No friends...No one I could relate to...All the people I dug was you guys ,living up here..."said Karen.

"Same here...It was a good move..a righteous move." said her husband, B.L.

They didn't mind being the only white couple in our neighborhood.

"Me and Brooke used to come up here too , To go to Aqua Bar, Josie's and Stoleys...We were lonely too in our perspective Apartment complexes....It's nice to live near our friends .."said Natalie.

"Even nicer to work in the same building with all of you guys."said her husband, David.

"Yes and to ride to and from work together." said Brooke.

"Yeah we lucked out moving up here and moving near all of you guys." said Sean.

"I think I've been living in the neighborhood as long as Olivia and Beverly...We moved in about two years after they moved here, didn't we Lem?" said Zoey.

"Yeah we sure did.." said Lem...

"All I know is that after hanging out with you guys and staying at Olivia and Beverly's house for two weeks....I didn't want to live anywhere else but near you all." said Renee, smiling.

"Same here."said Tyrell.

"When my Bresha was interning for Olivia and Beverly, we loved hanging out with all of you guys and after we got married...We met with her realtor and she sold us our house..."said Tony...

"We were already around there...We just moved closer...Josie already had her eye on a house."said Paris.

"We like living in these apartments...and the general area."said Nina.

"As long as you and Olivia have been friends..I'm surprised you weren't around there sooner."said her boyfriend, Carlos.

 Lee was having a quiet conversation with Yvette.

"It's always nice, right after a big court case is over isn't it?"she asked.

 "Yeah, but I have a feeling another one is on the way..." said Yvette.

Bee Bee and I and Sofia and I weren't talking, we were kissing, making out like two high school teenagers.

Jade drifted off to a peaceful sleep....

Jetty and Virginia were kissing too!...

This train seemed faster than our usual train...Maybe we'd all get home faster.

Meanwhile downtown.....

Attorney Teddy Weisman was at the bar in a tony downtown building on the phone....

"Jack..I did everything I could...I presented a very credible argument... I did.....I swear...and I presented all of the charactor witnesses you sent me... all very prominent people...but look, this is a double homicide we are talkin here and a pretty gruesome one at that..The Judge wasn't buying it...What could I do?" asked Teddy Weisman.

"You should have argued harder." said Jack Collins..."That is what I was paying you for....to get Hutchinson out of jail, now I'll have to look elsewhere."said an angry Jack Collins.

"What do you mean look elsewhere?" asked Teddy Weisman..

"IT MEANS YOU'RE FIRED!" snarled Jack Collins.... "I'm going to get the attorneys I should have gotten in the first place." he said to himself.
