THAT SAME SATURDAY-

After we finished eating breakfast at No I.D. bar , we all saddled up in two buses and headed to the laundromat in town that we all loved..

We unloaded our clothes and filled up the washing machines...There was no catered food today..We had already eaten... We hadn't brought cards like we had on other laundry days...Today was simply laundry day... 

''So Olivia, you're going to take on this case Pro Bono for Jumpshot Jim?" asked Yvette, my wife's closest friend.

"Yeah, he really doesn't think the guy did it, After this kid got out of prison, he said it was he who recommended him for the job at the garage.. and he let this kid work on all of his cars, getting him an

extra commission.  He said the kid recently scored him some Phillies tickets...Just don't sound like somebody holding a grudge...That kind of grudge."said Olivia.

 

"I would have to agree....There are certainly a lot of other candidates who would really like to have done Jumpshot Jimmy some harm...Mostly female." I chuckled.

"The ones we know have already poured coffee and other drinks on him and slapped him in the face.

That's about as far as they took it...but murder?? And like this...Ah I don't know."said Beverly.

"You know Jumpshot Jim has lost to us and Yvette and her team....but he's won some landmark cases too, sent some pretty heavy hitters to prison...That might need to be looked into."said Nelson.

"Yeah that's a thought....This car bomb looks like a professional job, way over this kid's pay grade."said Josie.

"I like the way you guys are putting this thing together....His defense already."laughed Josie's husband, Paris.

"Take notes....it all begins like this, brain storming, conversations."said Bresha.

"We do that at our job...Certain cases."said her husband, Tony...

Alfreda was not involved in our conversation...She and her husband Rockland were busy sorting clothes and putting them into seperate washing machines...

Rockland was so relaxed... He used to do this by himself in a lonely and small laundromat..Now he had a wife and plenty of friends..He loved this. 

"Jumpshot will owe me...It'll be good to have a friend in the District Attorney's Office."laughed Olivia.

 "He already owes you a favor, you guys saved him from being disbarred and going to jail for life..."laughed Yvette.

"Well he'll owe them another one... Besides, you have friends in the D.A.'s Office...Me and Rockland."said Gary.

"I know and I appreciate it...You can't ever have enough friends."laughed Olivia.

"I'm taking notes."said Keith Jones.

"Yes, Olivia is always thinking a few steps ahead."gushed his wife, Bee Bee, who idolized Olivia and Beverly as well as Ms. Yvette.

"Olivia plays Chess while everyone else is playing checkers"noted Sofia , who also idolized Olivia, Beverly and Ms. Yvette.

"Oh For Sure, For Sure." agreed her husband, Kahlil.

"Donnie Ray if you need any help in your investigation, I'm available." said Jade.

"It would be an honor and a privilege Jade...I'll give you a call." I said.

"I wish you guys luck." said Danny Ho.

"Jumpshot Jim is going against Lt. Tragg huh?  He must really believe in this guy's innocence."said Virginia, herself a former trial attorney...

"If Lt. Tragg made the arrest, I can see his doubt and worry."said her husband, Jetty, A Judge and once a very decent defense attorney.

Jazzy and her husband Dabnis were starting their laundry....

"Stop looking at my panties.." she giggled.
 

"I didn't know you had so many and how pretty they are.." said Dabnis.

"That's because you're so busy slipping them off of me to notice."laughed Jazzy.

"This was a nice Saturday to do this ...Overcast and all and we don't have anything else planned for today."said Kayla.

"We can chill out at home when we get back...We'll be in Josie's tomorrow for Super Brunch."said Ray...

"Maybe later on tonight we'll get one of Jake's Fantastic Hot Dogs...."said Jessica.

"Yeah we haven't been up there in a minute." said her husband, Chip.

"That's not a bad idea."said Karen.

"Provided it doesn't rain." said B.L.

"We might make it..."laughed Natalie.. She knew her husband wanted to spend the afternoon in bed, making love to her...He always did.

"Yeah we might make it."said David.

"You've got to give my bestie a rest sometimes David." giggled Brooke.

"Mind your business sweetie."laughed Sean...

"I think we are going to grab some sandwiches from the sandwich shoppe and call it a day." said Zoey.

"Yeah." agreed her husband, Lem.

"I haven't had one of Jake's Hot Dogs in awhile."said Renee.

"Me neither....I think we are going to flood his small parking lot."said her husband, Tyrell.

"Ouu that sounds like fun....We can unpack and put our laundry away when we get home and come back out."said Lee.

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm I've never been to this place you guys talk about. Jakes." said Matthew.

"Oh My God....It's a neighborhood institution, like Josies... Beverly, Jazzy, Kayla, Natalie and Renee took me there when I first moved in the neighborhood.."said Lee.

"Olivia and Yvette used to take me and Karen there when we came to visit her..lomng before we came to live in the neighborhood."said Nina.

"You all are good friends." said her boyfriend, Carlos.

"I was in law school with Olivia, Yvette and Karen....I was a year ahead of them...but we've all been good friends over the years...Karen and I were both Assistant District Attorneys at one time.. Fortunately, I never had to try a case against either Olivia or Yvette." explained Nina.

After our laundry was done...We once again piled into the buses that dropped us all off at our homes..

Later that night....

We were all home, We had had an incredible day....

"He's being charged with First Degree Murder and he has a prior Felony conviction for Conspiracy to Transport Narcotics of which he did three out of five years and was on parole at the time...Not the ideal candidate for release."I said.

"Donnie Ray is right...Let's go visit him at the Correctional Center tomorrow." said Beverly

"Yeah that's the best move right now Olivia."said Nelson.

"You guys are probably right...Even though this is a Pro Bono case..I still want to give him the best defense possible." said Olivia.

"There is the doorbell ." said Josie.

"I wonder who that could be?" said Josie.

"Only two ways to find out."laughed Virginia...She pushed the Monitor button..

It was our friend, Natika Sommers and she was with someone.

"Come on Up Natika..."said Olivia..

We buzzed them in and allowed them to come upstairs.

"Hi Everybody, Olivia, Donnie Ray, BEVERLY GIRRRL, Nelson, Josie, Bree, Ms. Alfreda.I see I"m interrupting your breakfast...I'm so sorry."said Natika Sommers.

"Non-Sense...Both of you sit down, we have enough food for the two of you."said Olivia.

 She made places for both of them as they helped themselves to Pancakes, Sausages, Home Fries and Eggs... We had Hot coffee and freshly squeezed Orange Juice.

"So how are things at the Public Defenders Office?" I asked.

"That brings me to my reason for coming here.... I have been hiring a lot of new attorneys to cut back on the workload we have had to take on... This young lady here, Connie Spain...was at the top of her class at Middleton School of  Law...She just recently passed the bar.  I would like to know if she could intern with you guys for a trial and get a feel of being a trial lawyer....You guys are the smartest Trial Lawyers I know." said Natika.

"Ahhhh flattery will get you everywhere."laughed Beverly....

"Of course she can....Do you live far from here Connie?" asked Olivia.

"I live in the same apartment complex as Ms. Sommers...Just a co-incidence. And yes, I have a car." said Connie.

"That's great....We are about to embark on a new case as you speak."said Nelson.

"We are about to defend the guy accused of the car bombing that killed the young ADA, Jesse Colin." said Josie.

"He was my classmate...I knew him. We both attended Middleton Law School in Bayside."said Connie.

"I went to Middleton Law School too. So did my husband."said Bresha.

"Ohhh cool." said Connie.

"Meet us tomorrow morning at 8:00 am... We are going to the Men's Correctional Center to meet and visit our client." said Olivia Bennett-Alexander.

"I'm going to pack Lunches for you....I'm ordering snadwiches from that sandwich shoppe.. Here is a menu...Give me your order."said Alfreda.

"Ouuuuuu I wish I was going.." said Natika, smiling.

"I gotta take Auntay back to your building so she can buy a cheese steak from that shop in your building."laughed Beverly...

"Ohhhhh yes...That is a great place..."laughed Connie.

Later that same day we took Connie to the courthouse.. 

"Connie this is where all the magic happens...Where we do our thing..."said Olivia.

"In these courtrooms huh?" said Connie.

 

"As A Trial Attorney, you'll bne spending a lot of time in these courtrooms." I said.

"MyAuntie , my husband and I spent a lot of time in these courtrooms when we were Public Defenders...We spend time in them now, but not like then." said Beverly.

''So you guys were Public defenders once huh?" said Connie.

"Sure was...That's how we got our start.... It's a great training ground for a trial attorney...You'll learn a lot." said Nelson.

"And the first thing you'll learn..." said Natika Sommers peeling off some dollars... "Is to fetch coffee for the Senior Attorneys. The coffee shop is down the street, bring us creams and sugars." she said.

"She's joking  Connie....Bree and I will go with you." said Josie.

"Yeah, come on." said Bresha.

ADA Bruce Greene got a look at Connie...

"VA VA VA VOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!" he said.. He walked over and blocked Connie, Josie and Bresha from leaving the courthouse...

"And who is this?" he asked... Before anyone could answer he introduced himself.. "I am Assistant District Attorney Bruce Greene and you are?" he asked.

"Connie Spain...I'm an attorney with the Public Defender's Office....I'll be interning with Olivia and Beverly for the time being.." she said politely...

"Wellll you couldn't have picked two finer attorneys to intern under....I hope to be seeing you in court soon...heh heh heh." he said.

"He seemed nice."said Connie.

"Looks can be deceiving." said Bresha.

Josie giggled.

a little while later we were all sitting in the lobby sipping coffee and laughing and talking.

"I'm not going with you guys tomorrow...I've got some office work...but I'll drive you over to Olivia's house in the morning on my way to work." said Natika.

"Thank you." said Connie. 

"Alfreda is packing lunches for us and we are going to stop at Cakeman Raven's place and get some coffee and doughnuts and bagels.. makke his day a little brighter." said Olivia.

 

"I hope he's receptive." I said.

"Who wouldn't be receptive to free legal help?" asked Beverly.

"Yeah, who wouldn't be?" laughed her husband, Nelson.

"I wonder who the judge will be in this case and the ADA....We know it won't be Jumpshot Jimmy." said Josie.

"We'll find out soon enough." said Bresha.

Bruce Greene stood across the room from us...

He was sipping a coffee too and staring at Connie.
