Kelly's Reprieve

 COURTROOM B- TUESDAY NIGHT , 8:00 PM-

It was Tuesday....We had lucked up and gotten an 8:00 pm  Night Court hearing for Scott, thanks to Brenda.  He had only spent

NIGHT COURT-

In Philadelphia, Night Court only operates two nights a week....Tuesday and Thursday, Tonight was Tuesday...and fortunately...We got an arraignment date of 8:00 pm. 

The Judge in this case would not be the Judge in the actual case....

Lt. Tragg was not there... He was probably snuggled up with Judge Kelly Ann at her loft...Night court was too low profile for him anyway....No witnesses...No media..and a bunch of  Judges  and ADA's who were mostly older Judges and ADA's about to retire... Besides this wasn't a Homicide case...It didn't concern him.It was lightweight. It was in session from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays...We were quite fortunate to get a date. 

 "Just hang on Kelly girl, We are almost certain to get you out of here tonight." said Yvette.

"I hope so...I want to go to Olivia's place , take a nice hot shower..Get the jail stench off of me."said Kelly Grant.

"I can dig that." I said.

"You'll be alright.."said Bee Bee.

"Just hang tight like Ms. Yvette said."said Sofia,.

"Here comes the Judge now."said Kahlil.

Jade rubbed her back softly...

Attorney Daniel Brown was with us also tonight. When he heard Kelly was in trouble , he contacted us immediately and offered his help.. He helped Bee Bee, Sofia and Jade look up the 24 charactor witnesses that we needed.

"We would have never have rounded up this many people this fast.."said Bee Bee.

"Thank you so much Daniel."said Sofia.

"Yes, thank you."said Jade.

"I'm just glad you allowed me to help ..A lot of attorneys don't like an outsider helping.. "said Daniel.

"Nonsense, you were a godsend." I said.

"Thank you again." said Kahlil.

Yvette made sure she told Kelly Grant how much Daniel helped us..

"Girl you must have really put something on him...He helped us immensely...." she said.

"He is a surprisingly very good attorney...Pays attention to details, knows how to research facts." said Kelly.

The ADA that did show up was not going to be the ADA that tried the case...He had only the basic out line of the case at hand... He basically wanted to go home...So he didn't really put up much of a fight.

We presented 22 charactor witnesses. We found two additional witnesses...All either fellow attorneys or past clients of Kelly Grant, All testified to her extreme professionalism when working cases with and for them.

We argued that Kelly Grant, an Attorney herself , an officer of the court with no prior criminal record was not a flight risk and eagerly wanted her day in court to face these ridiculous and mistaken charges.

The Judge was impressed...He had heard of Kelly Grant and had even read her book...He released her on her own recognizance..

"OH MY GOD!  THANK YOU GUYS!"said Kelly, hugging Yvette and rocking her back and forth...

 

 "You're quite welcome...Now let's go get you some food..."said Yvette.

"That's a good idea." I said, smiling.

"You're always hungry." said Bee Bee.

Sofia laughed and pointed at Kahlil.. "So is this one here." she said.

Kahlil smiled.

So did Jade as we exited the courtroom.

We went to Sam Mother's Diner-

Kelly had Fried Fish...her first meal as a newly freed woman..

Jade also had a Fried Fish Platter.

Bee Bee and I had Cheese Steaks..

''We are true Philadelphians huh?" I said.

"Yes we are!"laughed Bee Bee as we enjoyed our cheese steaks..

Sofia and Kahlil ordered Italian Hoagies.

"I remember in High school you used to take me to that hoagie shop on Stenton Avenue... That's how I knew that you liked me.."said Sofia.

"You remember that? Wowwwww!"laughed Kahlil.

Daniel also had a hoagie.

as they enjoyed their sandwiches and cokes.

Ms. Yvette had only a slice of Sweet Potato Pie and a cup of coffee.

"You get rested up...and tomorrow morning stop by our office."said Yvette . "Bring your phone and your laptop..all of your devices." she said.

"Will do." said Kelly.

"Kelly? Uh, can I stay with you tonight?" asked Daniel..

"Of course you can...You certainly deserve it." said Kelly with a grateful smile.

II-

That night-

 We were all settled down with our significant others.. What better way to spend a warm spring night than to be making love.?

Bee Bee was wearing another sheer see through Baby doll.....She had just taken a hot shower and walked into our bedroom..

My eyes popped out of my head..She had on a new bra and matching panties that I hadn't seen before.

We met in our conference room the next morning... Kelly showed up with her Personal Phone and her Business Phone as well as her tablet and Laptop..

"Here is what you asked for...All of my devices." said Kelly.  She turned in her personal Smartphone, Her Business Smartphone...Her Tablet and her laptop.

We disabled the GPS in all of them, turned them off and locked them in our safe. She wouldn't be tracked by these anymore.

Sofia gave her a cell phone..

"This is a burner phone....It can't be cloned, traced or compromised..Don't call us on our personal or business phones...Call us only on this phone." said Sofia.

"This is a Portal...You can use this to conduct some of your business and to keep up on the progress of your case.."said Bee Bee,

"It can't be compromised either or tracked."said Kahlil.

"They don't know where you're staying and they can't follow your phone or devices anymore..

Where is your car?"I asked.

"It's parked behind Olivia's Office /Duplex.  Vettie, you've got some winners here...I wish I could steal them from you...Damn they are sharp..." gushed Kelly Grant.

Yvette laughed.. "I hand picked all four of them." Yvette said proudly.

"I'm still hunting Jake Deegan, the P.I. who set you up. I think he's still in town...I've seen credit card reports... I just haven't pin pointed where he is...but I'm still hunting." said Jade, a former Homicide Detective in Tokyo before coming to America.

Virginia brought in Ice Tea and Punch.

"Refreshments everybody!" she said.

Daniel Brown had packed some bags and put them in the trunk of his car and parked his car behind Olivia and Beverly's Office/Duplex...For the time being...He was going to stay with Kelly... She wasn't protesting.

FOUR DAYS LATER-

The rest of the week went by without incident...We appealed for the earliest trial date possible for Kelly Grant, to clear her name and reputation.

Saturday Night we had a rooftop party at the old apartment building we used to live in.. Our friends, Alexa Pratt and Toni Robinson now lived there.

It was a homecoming for me, Bee Bee, Sofia, Kahlil, Jade, Ms. Virginia, Matthew and Lee ..We had all lived there before getting married and moving into our current homes..

This was a nice and proper homecoming.

There was plenty of meats on the grills and seafood as well..

and plenty of beer...

Alexa was playing Smooth Jazz, Classic R& B, Classic Hip Hop and Neo Soul.

Donnie Ray had programmed it.

"Oh My God, This is sooo nice....WOWWW!" gushed Kelly, who was our special guest.

"YEAH!" said Daniel..

"I'm so glad we were able to put this together.And I hope we can do this again this summer.." said Toni Robinson, our friend who was now living in the apartments.. "Thank you so much Renee and Olivia for helping Alexa and me organize this." said Toni Robinson.

"Oh I love organizing social events..."said Renee Cantrell.

 

"I see..We couldn't have done it without you and Ms. Olivia's help."said Alexa Pratt.

"I was only too glad to help.I love these kind of get togethers."said Olivia.

 

"Lots of good meats here..Lots of good people here too!"said Donnie Ray.

"Ummmmmmmmm good food tonight." said Beverly, who sat in her husband's lap, while eating a Hot sausage and sipping a cold beer.

"I think this may be the best rooftop party yet." said Nelson, who held Beverly tightly in his lap and hugged her.

"I agree." said Josie, sipping a beer and enjoying a Burger.

"Man...can we stay here tonight?" joked Paris.

"Where would we sleep?" laughed Bresha.

"They got any sleeping bags???...Any empty rooms?" asked Tony..

"Oh stop it..."laughed Alfreda.

Her husband, Rockland simply chuckled. Glad to have friends, Glad to be here... 

"Yvette..these past few days at Olivia and Beverly's Office/Duplex and hanging out with you guys in the Bridge Building has been the most relaxing time I've had in years...Hard to believe I'm in danger of being disbarred and jailed for three years."said Kelly Grant.

 "Don't think negative...We are going to get you acquitted...You're not going to be disbarred or jailed..."said Yvette.

"If my baby says she'll get you off. Believe me..She'll get you off.."said a somewhat Tipsy Gary, who was holding Yvette in his lap.

''What he said." laughed Yvette, hugging her husband. "I'm glad we are riding home on buses." she said

Yvette planted a hot sweaty kiss on Gary's lips....

."Ummmmmmmmmmm babyyyy!" he moaned.

''Wow, we had some good parties when we lived here." I said. Bee Bee was sitting on my lap..

"Yes, we did, but not this  many people...This is epic!"said Bee Bee, who was eating a Burger and sipping a beer...

"It is....We'll be talking about this for awhile." said Sofia.

"We sure will....Amazing party." said Kahlil.

"WOW!  We really did have legendary rooftop parties, but nothing like this." said Jade.

"I remember. "laughed her husband, Danny..

"We didn't have any rooftop parties while I lived here." said Virginia.

"That's Okay...You and I had our own parties." said Jetty.

"We did , didn't we?" laughed Virginia.

"Thanks for inviting us." said our friend Natika.

Deputy District Attorney Lester Burke, her significant other was also along for the party.

"WOWWWWW! Never a dull moment...I'm going to be so full, and so drunk..I might not make Super Brunch tomorrow morning." said Jazzy..
 

"Me neither. Laughed her husband, Dabnis.

"Mmmmmmmmmm so much good food...but I hear ya Jazzy."said Kayla.

Jessica Sanchez-Burrows sat on her husband's lap sipping a Modelo Beer.

Chip held her tight and sipped a beer.. while looking on at the crowd and listening to the music.

"Oh My God, I'm having such a good time."said Karen Page -Benz...

Natalie  sat on her husband's lap sipping a Modelo Beer. and eating a Burger..

Her husband David held her on his lap and enjoyed Burgers and Beers himself and looked at the beautiful sky...

"WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH YOU?  I KNOW WHY YOU'RE MOANING!" said Natalie slyly....

Brooke also  sat on her husband's lap sipping a Modelo Beer. and eating a Burger..

"MMMMMMMMMMM This is sooo good." she said.

Sean, her husband was enjoying some seafood with one arm ,while holding her with another arm.

"I remember when we lived in our old house , coming down here to one of their first rooftop parties." said Zoey.

"I remember too!... Those were good times." said Lem.

" Well this was a success." said Renee, smiling.

"I've always said... If you ever stop being an Attorney, you can always be an event planner."laughed her husband, Tyrell.

"We had one party when we lived here...but not like this." said Lee Phillips-Akes.

"I remember... It's nice, coming back."said her husband, Matthew Akes.

This was the first rooftop party for Nina and Her husband, Carlos... They hadn't lived in this neighborhood before..

"WOWWWW THIS IS REALLY NICE" said Nina.

"I knowwww..This is epic. We've got to do this again before the summer is over." said her husband, Carlos.

Serendipity was there with her boyfriend,Kevin...

"Thank you all for inviting us...We really appreciate this." she said.

"WOW! THIS IS EPIC!"gushed Kevin.

"Yvette! Thank you ...Thank you again for all of this." said Kelly Grant.

"Oh you're welcome." said Yvette.

IV-

MONDAY AFTERNOON-

We had dinner at Olivia's house..

"Olivia as usual, everything was delicious..." said Yvette..

"Yesssssss...delicious!" agreed her husband, Gary...

"Thank My Husband and Alfreda...They helped me prepare the meal..."said Olivia.

Donnie Ray and Alfreda bowed and smiled.

"WOW...AND HE COOKS TOO!  You've got a winner Olivia." gushed Kelly...

"Thanks again for the weekend party...That was great.." said Daniel Brown, who was also dining with us..

"That was something wasn't it? Something a little Different."said Beverly.

"That was...we used to do that at least three or four times a summer when you guys lived there."said Nelson..

"Yeah I remember...We didn't have Alexa then..."I laughed.

"No you guys took turns D.J.ing."laughed Bee Bee.

"Yeah, Good times...Reminds us of far we've come together..."laughed Sofia..

"From the University to those apartments to our homes across the street."said Kahlil.

"Yeah ,it's been quite a journey...

"And our two groups...Have always been the closest...."said her husband, Danny Ho.

"I heard... You guys went to San-Francisco and Texas, working on Innocence Project sponsered cases."said Virginia.

"WHATTTTTT?" said Jetty.

"Oh yeah ,Miami and even Hawaii once...Just our two groups...Before we knew Jessica and Chip.."said Josie.

"Yeah I went on some of those trips."said Paris.

"I saw photos in Beverly's scrapbook where you guys even went to England once.. Before I joined the group."said Bresha.

"Oh Wow!." said Tony....

"I remember helping you guys pack for some of those trips."laughed Alfreda..

Rockland smiled and rubbed Alfreda's arms gently....

"You guys have quite a history with each other."said Kelly.

"Liv and I were room-mates in law school.. we met because we were the only two law school students, whose mothers brought us to campus...We were 22..We thought we were grown women...We were both mortified that our mothers accompanied us.. like we were kids on our first day of school....It's funny now...They were just so proud of the both of us.  We became room-mates and best friends."said Yvette.

''And we've been like sisters ever since...Never imagined we'd still be in each other's lives this long though."said Olivia, hugging Ms. Yvette.

"WOWWWWW!  I ENVY YOU ALL. YOUR CLOSENESS."said Kelly..

As the afternoon dragged on and we all enjoyed our dinner and good conversation.

At an undisclosed bar in Northeast Philadelphia- The next night!!!

Attorney James McClain was meeting with Private Investigator, Jake Deegan.. He gave him an envelope with 25 large in it...

"Nah she's dropped off the radar completely. I can't get any signals from her phone or her tablet or her laptop.She's gone radio silent and she's dropped off the radar...Hasn't been by her house in a week, going on two weeks now.. She discovered the GPS tracker I put on her car....Those lawyers got her out of jail real quick..,.They got her stashed away somewhere, but damned if I know where.." said Jake Deegan.

"Ahhhhh forget her, she's not important...The important thing is that I have time to retool my case with her out of the way...Forget about her.."laughed James McClain...

Jade and Virginia walked into the bar just then....

"Jake Deegan!  Today is your lucky day..."said Jade.

"This is for you." said Jade..."It's a subpoena...A court summons.." she said.

"I KNOW WHAT IT IS!" snarled an angry and surprised Jake Deegan.

"And just so you don't feel left out counselor.. Here is one for you.."said Virginia, passing James McClain a subpoena.

"AWWWWW COME ONNNNNN!" said a visibly angry James McClain..

"Good Night gentlemen." said Jade.

"Good Nighhhtttttttttttt!" said Virginia as they both left..

They got in Jade's SUV and pulled off into the night.
