Room 509

We were in a building familliar to us.. A Tony Downtown Hotel where we had stayed before.. Wherte Beverly and Nelson had celebrated their wedding anniversary and where a year before that when Beverly, Kayla, Jazzy and their friend , Hortense had had a law school reunion, they discovered that one of their classmates was a killer for hire.. 

Yes, we had a lot of history in this hotel... It was beautiful..

It had a poolside bar and grill for one thing...

and a gorgeous indoor rooftop pool...

It also had a beautiful conference room where today business was being undertaken...a litigation..

On one side was us.. My wife, Attorney Olivia Bennett-Alexander, Me, Donnie Ray Alexander, her husband and investigator, Her niece and partner, Attorney, Beverly West East, her husband, Attorney, Nelson East, Attorney Josie Boyd and Attorney Bresha Billips and our client, Dustin Elba...A Contractor.

This wasn't a criminal case, this was a labor litigation.. We were trying to resolve some arbitrary inspection problems with another man, Jason McCombs. 

 

Jason McCombs , an area businessman was there with his attorney, our old friend, Jerome Malcolm..

A Young Black Attorney sat in the visitors section... He caught both Olivia's eye and Beverly's a week ago when this litigation begun...... He was Jerome Malcolm...a Harvard trained attorney who had been around for awhile..

I remember Olivia telling me they once worked together at the same firm before she started her own practice...."Yeah , he worked there...Would never back me up...but was always trying to back me in a corner and get a kiss or a feel...He didn't make partner either..."said Olivia.

"He tried to date me too.. Took me to a few nice places while you were in the hospital , having your second miscarriage...but I just didn't dig him...plus I thought , all he wanted to do was get in my panties...and I was pretty guarded back then.."said Beverly...

"That's all he did want...He certainly tried hard enough to get into mine before I got pregnant..Even though he knew I was married. What a snake.. It's been awhile." said Olivia..

It had been almost two years since we'd last seen him and here he was , opposing counsel in this litigation.

We had been meeting down here for a week....It had been a contentious litigation... All of this talking bored me..I much preferred a juicy murder case.

Also seated in the meeting was Dean Harris, a labor negotiator from the union. He wasn't a lawyer, but he wanted this negotiation settled as quickly as possible. He said nothing....He just sat back...

Jerome Malcolm's phone vibrated....He was getting a text..

"HEY I AM DOWNSTAIRS IN ROOM 509.....I AM VERY HORNY...HURRY UP WITH YOUR MEETING...MY HUSBAND DOESN'T KNOW I AM IN THE BUILDING...COME DOWN...I AM VERY VERY HORNY." was the text...

"Yeah, let's break for today." said Nelson.

"What say you Mr.Elba?" said Bresha.

"That is a good idea Ms. Bresha... I am a bit Hungry myself " said Dustin....

"Let's take five Lawyer man...Drinks on me " said Jason McCombs... "Hey where is he?" he said.

Jerome Malcolm had already left , heading to the elevator and rushing to the fifth floor....to room 509.

The beautiful wife of our client, Dustin Elba, Sabrina Elba was waiting for him...Her husband had headed out to lunch with us, unaware that his wife was a floor below us...in a room she had rented...wearing only an Aqua Blue silk bathrobe and some royal blue panties underneath...

THE BRIDGE BUILDING-

The Cafeteria, where most of our neighbors and friends worked now.. One thing about working in town...We got to see them...We were just a few blocks from where they worked..

"This is a nice place they have here....So many choices in food." said Dustin Elba. 

"Yes...We love coming here to eat." said Olivia.

 

''And it doesn't hurt that our favorite people work here too!  All our neighbors and close friends." I said.

"Go fix yourself a plate and come back here and eat with us." said Beverly, smiling.

"Yeah....enjoy...we don't have much longer with this litigation." said Nelson.

"I'm certain we are close to closure on this agreement. "said Josie.

"Wow!  You guys have been working on this for a minute there" said her husband, Paris.

"Kinda makes you wish for a good old fashioned murder trial huh?" said Bresha.

Her Husband, Tony laughed...

Dustin called his wife... 

Her phone went to voicemail...again!  He had no idea where she was...Probably shopping, spending his hard earned cash, he thought. 

 "She's probably out shopping like I plan to do this weekend." said Yvette.

"I hear Josie's is having a special event everyday this week." said Keith Jones.

"Yeah, different nights they plan to have different  people performing...Musicians, D.J.'s , comedians." said Bee Bee.

"It sounds like Big Fun!" said Sofia.

"Man, I gotta love this neighborhood we live in.." said Kahlil.

"I told you moving around there was a good move."laughed Jade.

Virginia smiled... When she got out of prison, all of these people reached out to her, made her feel at home...Gave her a job, took her to different outings and events...It made her and Jetty's decision to move in the neighborhood that much easier.

"It culminatyes next Saturday Night with "Ms. Lingerie" , a new beauty pageant." said Jetty.. 

''Are you going to be a Judge Jetty" laughed Jazzy, knowing he had been one of the Judges of" Ms. Panties"pageant for years...

"No I've got nothing to do with it..My days of Judging Pageants are over...I've got my Ms. Panties and Ms. Lingerie right here with me.." said Jetty ,pinching Ms. Virginia's butt.\

"I'm going to enjoy the musicians....I used to always come for the musicians...I always joined Olivia and Vettie....Now I live here." said Karen...

"Brookie and I always came to Josie's...We loved it...It is nice to live in the neighborhood now."said Natalie.

"Josie's had that reputation as THE place to hang out, regardless of where you lived in Philadelphia." said David, who also frequently came there, Aqua Bar and Stoleys.  He never dreamed he'd actually live in the area.

"It was a long drive here from where I was living then.  I would come here and meet up with Natalie..It was always so chill, so cool and everybody was always so nice." said Brooke.

"Yeah, I used to come here too!   I think we ran into each other here again Brooke after we both returned to Philadelphia."said Sean.

"We did" said Brooke, rubbing his hands softly.

"This is going to be an epic week, I hope you girls can wrap your case up." said Zoey.

"Girllllllllll we are trying." said Olivia.

" I think we are two days from settling this dispute." said Beverly...

"I hope so....It would be nice for you guys to enjoy next week and relax.." said Lem.

"Sometimes I think long litigations are more stressful than actually going to court and trying a case."said Renee.

"I'd have to disagree with you on that Honeybun."said her husband....Tyrell.

Dustin Elba dialed his wife again..

again it went to voice mail...

He had no idea that Sabrina was in the building, we'd just left in room 509...

THE NEXT DAY-

The next day, we were back at the bargaining table for another day of litigation...  We sat with Dustin Elba.

 

Dustin's wife was home when he got home.....

A zip drive was delivered to her via registered letter with instructions to watch immediately..

She placed the zip drive in her computer and what she saw blew her mind...

A white man named  Maxwell Roach sat at a table in the corner...

He smiled and waved her over....

"Mrs. Elba...Sabrina right? Would you like some coffee?" he asked as his coffee was delivered to his table.

"NO! What do you want? Who are you?  Is this some kind of shakedown?" asked Sabrina.

"Whoa, Whoa Whoaaaa! You've been a naughty girl...a very naughty girl Sabrina!...Sleeping with the opposing counsel in your husband's case....What was that, to gain some favor, to help his case out?" asked the man, a private investigator named Max Roach...

"Who are you working for? What do you want?" asked Sabrina.

"Who I am and who I work for is not your concern....What I want is 50 large in twenties ,maybe hundreds...No checks in a briefcase....You've got 24 hours to deliver....Or else your husband and his legal team get copies of this embarrassing zip drive....It will effectively end your boyfriend's employment as well as your very luicrative marriage...No more expense accounts...No more shopping trips..No more trips period... Your whole lifestyle depends on how you move." said Max Roach.

"How do I know you don't have copies...That you won't try to extort me even further?" asked Sabrina.

"You don't! Just meet me at this address tomorrow with the money, my money." said Max.

Sabrina left his table and walked over to the counter..

She ordered a cup of coffee...When she turned around , Max was gone.

IV-

THE NEXT DAY-

 We came to an agreement that both parties were satisfied with...

"Well that went well.usually these litigations don't wind up this affable." said Olivia.

 

"I learned a lot from this...just watching you two." I said.

"You've learned enough from us now to take the LSAT's if you wanted."laughed Beverly.

"That's how Josie got started."said Nelson, smiling at his protoge'

"I thought everything they did was so interesting...So I became a para-legal and then started studying the LSAT's..." said Josie.

"Who knows....maybe one day....but for now...I'll stick to investigating." I said.

"It does tend to be less nerve wracking at times. "laughed Bresha.

"You all did an excellent job." said our happy client, Dustin Elba.

"Great job Jerome...Hey look, they have an excellentg bar here...upstairs...Drinks on me, everybody."said a very happy Jason McCombs.

"Dean didn't show up today....He'd of been happy...We settled."laughed Jerome Malcolm as we all headed upstairs to the bar.

Meanwhile five floors down in room 509 ironically enough...

The mysterious man named Max got a visitor....

"You're early....I gave you until the end of the day...You got my money?  Huh?" he asked.

"I'm noy paying you a thin dime...but I got something for you." came the voice.

A gun with a silencer was produced...

"Hey...What are you doin?  Hey look, I'll call the debt off, aint no need to do this...come on please...no...no..."said a very frightened Max..

The gun fired....Max was hit with three shots to his abdomen, one in his chest and one to his head...He fell backwards over the bed and crashed on to the floor..

He lingered for a few minutes....then he died.

His killer quietly walked out and slipped down the back steps...

Minutes later, Sabrina Elba appeared at the door of Room 509 with the breifcase as instructed...

She too was a little early...The door was open....She walked in and to her horror....She saw the dead body of her would be blackmailer lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

She shrieked in horror, turned and ran down the backsteps and out of the building..

Meanwhile upstairs, we all were enjoying drinks, glad the two week long litigation had been settled amicably...

"Well I know you guys are glad that's over...I for one am....Anything special going on fore the weekend?" asked a very relieved Jerome Malcolm.

"You need to come up around our way, Josie's is having an event, every night next week."said Olivia.

 

"It's their anniversary, drink specials, live entertainment every night..and culminating in the Ss Lingerie  pageant on Saturday Night." I said.

"That should appeal to you." joked Beverly....

"Only if you lovely ladies were in it." joked Jerome.

Nelson smirked... He didn't like Jerome Malcolm and he particularly didn't like that remark.

"In your dreams Jerome, but it's still going to be a good time."said Josie.

"Yes." said Bresha.

"Sounds like a good time...Are White guiys allowed?" joked Jason McCombs...

''Sure...Josie's doesn't discriminate...We have White friends who live on our block whop attend Josie's regularly and nothing happens to them." said Josie.

"Good!  Then Saturday Night...I'm there."laughed Jason McCombs...now our buddy after contesting us in that litigation for two weeks...

Beverly and Olivia looked at each other and smiled.

On the street, Sabrina was relieved her would be blackmailer was dead....but on the other hand, she had to locate that zip drive, She couldn't allow that to get in the wrong hands,,

Little did she know...She was in more trouble than that.
