 MONDAY MORNING-

Lt. Tragg addressed the crowd of reporters...

"WE HAVE MADE AN ARREST in the fire bombing murder of Attorney Ronald Underwood..None other than Mrs.Anita Brown, the wife of our Mayor... Apparently Mr. Underwood was Blackmailing her in an apparent attempt to force her to persuade the Mayor to drop out of the race and she repaid him in kind..." said Lt. Tragg..

"What proof do you have of this?" asked one reporter.

"This is a very serious charge with serious repercussions Lieutenant." said another reporter.

"We have evidence that won't be made public at the time...but believe me...We have it..." he said.

AN HOUR EARLIER-

"Artie...I want those photos....The photos you have of the Mayor's Wife...They are not to made Public,,This comes from the top."said Captain Eddie Cantrell.

"This is evidence for my investigation....My investigation hinges on these photos." he said.

"Give him the photos Artie...That's an order and it comes from ME!" said the Deputy of Operations..

"You can mention that you have evidence to the press, but you are not to mention what that evidence is and these photos are not to be mentioned at all...UNDERSTAND?" asked the Deputy of Operations.

"YES SIRRRRRRRRR, SIRRRRRRR!" said Lt. Tragg.

We sat in our kitchen ,eating breakfast and watching the morning's local news...Of course this was a big story. 

"He loves to hear himself talk." said Olivia.

 

"Funny, he didn't show those photos or even mention what evidence he supposedly had." I said.

"That's because he has none."said Beverly..

"I'm thinking some higher ups told him to cool it with his theory, and that's all it is and not to make those photos public."said Nelson.

"You're probably right..  But  he really doesn't have any proof of anything..."said Josie.

"The ATF won't find anything on his Laptops...They were clean before the explosion...and what was left of his zip drives were incinerated... He has nothing...but I do hope the Feds find the bomber." said Bresha.

"They'll find the bomber before he makes a case against Anita." said Alfreda.

"Everything is set for tomorrow night Liv, I got us a 7:30 appointment in Night Court.. We are the first case up." said Nelson. 

"Good..How are we on charactor witnesses ?" asked Olivia.

"I've got 35...Mostly City employees...Friends of the Mayor and the like." said Beverly.

"Should I contact the Bail Bondsman?" asked Nelson.

"Yeah just in case...but I'm betting she'll be released on her own recognizance."said Olivia.

"Just because of who she is."said Josie.

"Wow! I never dreamed I'd be defending the Mayor's Wife."gushed Bresha.

"Aren't you glad you hooked up with us? You could be in some dull law office downtown."said Alfreda,.

"I know right?" laughed Bresha.

"I have better cases with this group than I had when I was a New Orleans Detective." I said, smiling.

II-

COURTROOM C- TUESDAY NIGHT-7:30 pm. all 35 

NIGHT COURT-

Lt. Tragg was not here tonight... Night court was too low profile for him...No witnesses...No media..and a bunch of  Judges  and ADA's who were mostly older Judges and ADA's about to retire...It was lightweight. It was in session from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays...We were quite fortunate to get a date.

It was Tuesday Night and we were the first case up..

He had no idea Anita  was being arraigned tonight...He expected her to be arraigned tomorrow or the day after in open court.

The ADA that did show up was not going to be the ADA that tried the case...He had only the basic out line of the case at hand... He basically wanted to go home...So he didn't really put up much of a fight.

Well not much...

 

 

Anita was surprised herself that her case came up as quick as it did.

She sat in between Olivia and Beverly who made the case that if anyone had seen Lt. Tragg's new conference yesterday, it proved that he had even less evidence against her than most of the people he arrested.

This drew guffaws of laughter from everybody in the courtroom... A Good sign for us.

Nelson presented all 35 charactor witnesses.....Mostly City employees...Friends of the Mayor and the like.

Josie and Bresha piggy backed each other talking about how Anita Brown was an officer of the court herself as a fellow Attorney and had no criminal convictions of any type and was not now or ever a danger to the community.

I smiled.

Olivia and her four Attorneys as usual argued beautifully and effectively... The Judge, who knew Anita Brown released her oh her own recognizance...Just as we'd hoped.

Our Bail Bondsman laughed and quietly exited the courtroom.....It was 8:45.

The Mayor himself was in back of the courtroom.. He smiled.

"You can't stay out of trouble can you girl?" he said.

"You Know me baby...Trouble with a Capital T." said Anita.

They kissed passionately..

almost if nothing had ever happened.. I mean he had come home from a big trip to find his wife in jail ,charged with conspiracy to commit murder. They were kissing like nothing had happened.. he couldn't know the whole story and he hadn't seen the photos.

"Thank you guys for getting my baby out of jail and thank you for representing her...I've heard about you guys for a long time and have followed your cases....I know she's in good hands." said the Mayor,

Cecil "Get it Right" Brown.

"You're quite welcome your honor...We'll do our best."said Olivia, speaking for all of us.

 

"I suppose she's going home now." I said. :Lt. Tragg doesn't know she's out yet." I added.

"And when he does find out..I doubt seriously he's going to go to the Mayor's House and harass her."said Beverly.

"Not if he wants to keep his job." said Nelson.

"He's skating on thin ice with this case as it is." said Josie.

"He'll be back on that boat the rest of this year or walking a beat in Chinatown." said Bresha.

We all laughed loudly at that!

We all then exited the courthouse...

and got in the SUV and headed home....

It was still light out...Just starting to get dark.

III-

And at the Mayor's House-

"UMMMMMMMMMM!"he moaned.

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" she cooed.

They were kissing passionately, almost as soon as they got inside and closed the door.The Mayor and His recently freed Wife...

We were having Breakfast...Pancakes, Waffles, Omelettes, Hash Browns, Sausage, Orange Juice and Coffee.

 

"You know Donnie Ray...Those two, Cecil and Anita are a strange couple.  He knows she has stepped out on him and yet he stays with her...She is just as bad, She won't leave him." said Olivia.

 

"It's a relationship of co-dependence...She doesn't want to work, except when she wants to..He affords her that, a big house ,paid bills etc. And he likes having a young vibrant sexy woman by his side." I said. "He turns the other way when she steps out....and she in turn remains by his side afterwords. Trust me..She's not going anywhere."I said.

"It's a good thing the most damaging evidence against her was destroyed before that explosion...Those photos of her out having a drink with that guy and him kissing her is nothing."said Olivia.

"You know what? even if he does see them...It won't matter...He aint goin nowhere....She's got him wrapped around her fingers." I said.

"Won't be the first time...When Me Kayla and Jazzy were in law school she had two well known law professors about to go to war with each other over her.....She's always been a somewhat Femme Fatale." said Beverly...

"What a Brazen Hussy.!" said Alfreda.

Olivia cracked up laughing..

"I know you're happy husband...We bought a Waffle Iron." said Beverly,laughing, turning her attention to her husband..

"I am indeed. Now I wish they'd get one at the No I.D. Bar...They have one at Josie's for Super Brunch."said Nelson.

"Yeah, The Waffles at Josies are good. Hey Liv...We could ask for a Bench Trial and keep the Public and a Jury from seeing those photos couldn't we?" asked Josie matter of factly.

"That's a good idea. Keep as much of this sordid mess out of the papers as possible."said Olivia.

"I'll start doing some research to see if we have grounds for such a trial in this case..."said Beverly.

"We could file a motion to supress those Photos couldn't we?" asked Bresha.

"I'm afraid not..Those photos are the basic point of  evidence in this case...Although they are not evidence at all..Just part of a fever dream theory in Lt. Tragg's mind."said Olivia.

"You mean he has a mind?"asked Alfreda.

We all laughed as we enjoyed our meals.

IV-

A FEW NIGHTS LATER- CURLEYS BAR-COUPLES NIGHT

"So Liv , might you go for a Bench trial in this case?  Considering the Sordid Details They might bring out about Anita Brown's recent private life?" asked Jazzy...
 

"That's the route I'd go...No Jury...No Press." said Dabnis.

"Brilliant legal minds think alike! Beverly, Josie and Bresha are researching predicates and whether we can call for a bench trial in this case under the circumstances." said Olivia.

"What a mess to be put in... If Only Anita had a modicum of self control...This wouldn't have been able to happen." said Kayla.

"Yeah, but the people who pray on other people's weaknesses for profit and gain are just as bad."said Ray...

"I heard that that Regency Concern shut down their offices, turned their phones off and attempted to go underground."said Jessica.

"They didn't get but so far.. I had their addresses and we subpoenaed a half a dozen of them... The D.A.'s Office subpoenaed the rest...They'll be in court."I said.

"Bravo, they can run but they can't hide." said Chip.

"One of their spokesmen is on Television saying they didn't know or have any affilliation with Ronald Underwood.." said Karen Page.

"With his office destroyed by fire...There is no records there to say they did."said B.L.

"Somebody knows whether they did or not and under the threat of perjuring themselves, they'll have to testify." said Natalie.

"That will be interesting to know." said David.

"It's Dirty Business...Politricks."said Brooke.

"Who knows how many back door deals are made ?" asked her husband, Sean.

"This one goes way beyond spying on Anita Brown's Bedroom."said Zoey.

"Sure Does."said Lem...

"Where is she now?" asked Renee.

"With her husband...The Mayor....She's been by his side for three days."said Beverly.

''And under him and on top of him among other things." said Tyrell..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! YOU ARE SOOOO BAD!" said Lee,laughing herself..

Matthew was laughing too!

"Don't give him a stage."laughed his wife, Renee. 

 "I don't understand where Lt. Tragg is going with this." said Yvette.

"YOU DON'T?  We haven't since the charges have been filed." said Olivia.

"Neither does anyone in the D.A.'s Office... Being close to many of the ADA's...I already know that none of them wants this hot potato... Even some Judges are wondering about it." said Gary.

"The ATF is concentrating on the bomb and the actual bomber."said Keith Jones.

"Yeah, you find the Bomb maker and maybe you find out who hired him or why he or she chose to do this."said Bee Bee.

"That's too much like the correct path to take." said Sofia.

"There is no proof Anita Brown was anywhere near that building when the office exploded."said Kahlil.

"She wasn't...She was with us.." said Nelson.

"So what is his rationale ?" asked Jade...

"He says she was being Blackmailed and she bombed his office or had it bombed to destroy all evidence of it,.which it appears was done.What they found in that Safe Deposit box is of little concern...It's just not enough to warrant a murder plot, but he seems to think so." said Danny Ho.

"You know he gets worse and worse...This is the absolute worst he's been yet..." said Virginia.

"I'd throw the entire case out...It's a waste of time."said Jetty

"If you're lucky Liv, the Judge will throw this out." said Nina Rios.

"Or the ADA!" said Carlos. 

 "I'd throw it out.." said Olivia.

"But you're not a Judge or an ADA ,looking to make a name for themselves." I said.

"Off of this weak case?   I doubt it...What name are they going to make? That they wasted the court and everyone's time on a case that shouldn't have even gotten an indictment.?" said Beverly....

"You're preaching to the choir Shortcake...I agree with you." I said.

"Lt. Tragg has had two of his recent cases tossed out by the ADA ,before they came to a jury vote and this case looks weaker than those other two." said Nelson.

"He's sitting over there with Kelly Ann right now belly aching and whining about this case that's falling apart in his lap." said Josie.

"Well at least he aint over here whining and Belly aching to us about it."said Paris.

"Oh Thank God!"said Bresha.

"I've never seen a weaker case..How did he get an indictment.?" asked Tony.

"Exactly." said Beverly.

"And that is the Ten Million Dollar Question."laughed Alfreda.

"I don't know how the man keeps a job." said Rockland.

Another round of Ice Cold drinks arrived at our tables...

"Kelly Ann, I heard you dropped out as Judge of this case...Don Diorgio didn't persuade you did he? He has dropped out as ADA and is telling other ADA's that this is a loser case."said Lt. Tragg.

"He had nothing to do with it...I don't talk to him like that...I have my reasons for dropping out of this case, which I plan to keep to myself...but just to make you feel better...I bought something today that should make you feel better later on tonight..Open the box." said Kelly Ann.

Lt. Tragg opened the box...

His eyes opened wide like saucers....It was a Red and Black Panty and Bra set.....with Black lace..

"VA VA VA VOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!" he said.

"Now if you promise not to ask me anymore about this upcoming trial, I'll model this set for you tonight and blow your mind!" said Kelly Ann...

Lt. Tragg leaned over and kissed her.

At the bar- ADA  Don Diorgio watched with Disdain....

"For the life of me, I don't get what she sees in him." he snarled as he downed his beer.

"Jealous Donny?  I hear she dropped off of this Anita Brown thing.." said Curley, Owner and Head Bartender.

"She dropped off and so did I...It's a stone loser...Garcetti is going to have to call in a Special Prosecutor of try it himself..None of the other ADA's want to try this case...Largely because Tragg is involved." he said.

As he chugged down another mug of beer.
