''We've got our work cut out for us."said Diane...

TWO WEEKS BEFORE- FIRST DAY OF TRIAL-

"ALL RISE FOR JUDGE KELLY ANN MERCER, DOCKET 527- COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA VS. KATHLEEN DECKER, CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER."said the Bailiff.

"Good Morning, Good Morning, Be seated.  Good Morning Attorneys and Jurors...I am Judge Kelly Ann Mercer..

We are going to seat a jury today and trial will start tomorrow morning... I Don't believe I  know all of the attorneys involved...So would you introduce yourselves to the court please?" she said.

''Assistant District Attorney Diane Baronski, representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania." said Diane.. This was two weeks before she and Jake had hooked back up.. 

"Corrine Bailey Walton- Lead Attorney for the Defense your honor." she said.

"Olivia Bennett-Alexander-Attorney, Co-Lead Attorney  for the defense your honor." said Olivia.

"Beverly West East-Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Beverly.

"Nelson East, Attorney for the Defense your honor."said Nelson.

"Josie Boyd, Attorney for the defense your honor." said Josie.

"Bresha Billips, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Bresha.

"Romeo Flanders, Attorney for the Defense..." said Romeo...

Kathleen Decker, the defendant sat next to me....

And I set Quietly as the introductions were made.

''Excellent. Now we will have Juror selection..." said Judge Mercer..

Diane had done as good of preperation as humanly possible...

Nelson was better prepared and had better questions..

Josie and Bresha helped him by using their laptops  and whispering questions and information to Nelson..

Nelson won a 8-4 victory over Diane...

You could see the lonliness and the retreat in her face...

"Outstanding...We have a jury...Trial will begin tomorrow at precisely 9:00 am, Attorneys and Jurors remember to be on time and be ready for trial...."said Judge Kelly Ann...

And That was Two Weeks Ago....and now there is today..

II-

Her doorbell rang...Corrine thought it was Romeo....

''Come in...the door is open." said Corrine.

To her surprise, it was Olivia.

"Olivia....what a surprise....I was going to invite you all over after the trial" she said.

"That's okay...this is not a social call..It's a business call."said Olivia.

"Here , let me fix you some coffee.."said Corrine..

She fixed them both two cups of coffee...

"You said this is about business....What business?" asked Corrine.

"I want you to recuse yourself from the case....I want you to do it tomorrow morning....I know you're not a licensed attorney. You never have been, have you?" asked Olivia softly...

Corrine held her head low....She felt a sense of relief...Her secret was out...She had been running from it for years...and now it was out...She wasn't going to deny it or lie to her friend.

"Olivia...my whole life I've been an over achiever...Valedictorian in Girls High, Valedictorian in Lasalle,

Harvard Law Review....Graduated , got my J.D. from Harvard ...

I was on a roll, a lifetime roll.. So you have to understand....When I took the Bar Exam and not only did I not score High, I failed it...I failed it Livy....I'd never failed anything in my life...I was ruined..

I went on a two day drinking binge....I was too embarrassed to tell anybody....I just packed my bags and took a flight to New York City....Pearson and Hardman hired me immediately... They saw that I graduated from Harvard and they were sold...No one asked me if I'd passed the bar... I worked there successfully for Three years....Then I met some prick, who wanted to get in my panties...When I refused him, he started looking into my past and he found the one chink in my armour...That I had graduated from Harvard, but had failed the Massachusetts Bar and never retaken it... He threatened to expose me unless I slept with him...I turned in my resignation and fled to Los Angelas...As far as I could go..

In L.A. it was just like New York...Black and Lane hired me right away..They saw that I graduated from Harvard and they were sold...No one asked me if I'd passed the bar... I worked there successfully for Seven years...." said Corrine.

"Someone there found out your secret?" asked Olivia.

"No...but I was home sick!  I'm an East Coast Girl...I saw there was an Opportunity at The Harris Group here in Philly, so I came home, to Philadelphia.  I hadn't been home in a decade...I felt good being back in the city...They hired me here just like L.A.  When you say Harvard, it automatically gets you in the door..Nobody asks you if you passed the bar..They just assume." said Corrine.

''We've been pitchin a bitch in court...Diane is losing and she knows it...She'll look for any edge she can find..She's Ruthless... If it's found out that you're in that courtroom with no license...You won't be able to take the bar and it will sabotage our case."said Olivia.

"You're right!   Who else knows?"asked Corrine.

"Just me and my husband.... I'm going to help you....You're going to come to my house and you're going to study for the Pennsylvania Bar...All day long...It'll be quiet...No one will be around but Alfreda..

I have a friend...Her husband is an expert at preparing people for the bar...Josie started out as my para-legal...He helped her study for the bar after she graduated from law school..she passed with flying colors..  You're going to pass the Pennsylvania Bar.. You're a smart girl Corrine..You've always been brilliant.. You've got to forgive yourself...and try it again... There is an Assistant District Attorney...he used to be a cop...He took and failed the bar exam four times....four times...The fifth time ,he passed...Aced it..  You're smarter than he is..I know you'll be successful the second time around." said Olivia.

"Alright Olivia...I can't keep on running....I like it here...I like my job...I like the people I work with.."said Corrine,.

"I believe in you honey...Don't let me down."said Olivia.

"All I ever wanted to be was a lawyer Livy...The law is all I have...If I can't do that, what can I do?" said Corrine.

''All the more reason you should do this. You're a fine lawyer Corrine and you're a smart woman...You always have been....You can take that Bar Exam and pass it..." said Olivia.

"I sure hope so...I'll do my best." said Corrine.

III-

NIGHTFALL!

"I talked to Corrine this afternoon...I told her I knew she didn't pass the bar and had never taken it again.. She didn't try to hide it..She broke down told me that she was ashamed and that she just took jobs as attorneys with different firms...She said no one ever asked her about the bar exam."said Olivia.

"I imagine they wouldn't...Especially when they see she went to Harvard." I said.

" She agreed to recuse herself tomorrow .and she's going to come here and study for the bar...and take the Pennsylvania Bar." said Olivia.

''That's good..  She'll be able to conduct business without fear here in Philly at least." I said.

"Let's take care of some business right here."" Olivia cooed.

"Thanks for the coffee guys." said Romeo.

"This is just what the Doctor ordered."I said smiling...

"You alright Corrine?" asked Kathleen..

"Yes, I'm fine...I'm leaving you in good hands." said Corrine.

Something about the way Corrine said that worried Kathleen...

Lt. Tragg walked by, but he didn't say anything...He was distressed...He didn't want Olivia, Beverly, Nelson, Josie or Bresha involved in this case...He was shocked the first day of the trial when they walked in with this new attorney, Corrine Walton and her assistant, Romeo Flanders... 7 Attorneys..

7 Attorneys muddying up the waters for a case he had really worked hard on...And now they were into the third week...He didn't say anything to us...He just shook his head.

We all entered the courtroom that morning...

Corrine rose quietly before the proceedings started...

"Your Honor....Before we get started... I would like to recuse myself from this trial....My Assistant, Romeo Flanders and Mrs. Bennett-Alexander will be the Lead Attorneys in the case...I am stating personal reasons." said Corrine...

"Corrie!! What's going on?" asked a stunned Romeo..

"I'll explain later baby...I promise..."said Corrine.

"Corrie?" asked Kathleen..

"You'll be fine!" said Corrine.. 

Olivia looked at a shocked Beverly, Nelson, Josie and Bresha..

 
"I promise you guys...I'll explain everything....Let's just go on with the trial." she said.

"Oh Wowww!" said Beverly...

"What happened?" asked Nelson.

"Personal Problems?" asked a confused Josie.

"I hope she's alright." said Bresha.

"She's fine....I promise you guys...I'll explain everything....Let's just go on with the trial."said Olivia.

I already knew the deal..

"Hmmm wonder what that is all about ?" wondered Diane..

"You suspect trouble in paradise?" asked Jake...

"I don't know..." mused Diane....

"Well  Ms. Walton , I'm sorry to see you go...I hope all will be well with you young lady!"said Judge Kelly Ann..

"Thank you your honor." said Corrine as she exited the stunned courtroom.
