In The Biblical Sense

 7 DAYS LATER-

We were finishing up our work on the upcoming trial of  Holden Louden,

 accused of murdering one of our Para-Legals, Haley Barbera.

Bee Bee, Sofia and Alexa Pratt finished up the last bit of research for the case...

''Well, the trial begins tomorrow...Everybody ready?" asked Bee Bee.

"Ready as I'll ever be... You ready Soror?" asked Sofia.

"Yes I'm ready.." sighed Alexa.

"I'm not trying to be funny Alexa...but have you heard from Holden?" asked Bee Bee.

"No I haven't.... I'm guessing I was just a Booty call." said Alexa.

''Awwwww don't say that...We'll see him tomorrow, Everything is going to work out."said Sofia..

"It's Okay...Really....I don't even care." said Alexa.

"I think we got the list of jurors we want home slice." said Kahlil..

"Yeah, I only hope we can get the majority of them...." I said..

"I've got news for you....Haley was pregnant, a month pregnant at the time of her death....They compared the DNA with Holden's...It definitely wasn't him.."said Jade.

"Well he said it was not him...He never even got a kiss..."said Yvette.

"It wasn't Halsley Welch either.... He had an operation , A Vasectomy, two years ago... There is no way 

he got her pregnant... He has two grown children from two different women...He didn't want anymore."said Jade.

 "He might have killed her out of rage at her getting pregnant...That means there was another man in her life....She was using him for his money....but had another guy on the side....A rich powerful, egotistical man like that...That was an afront...Believe me...I've been where she's been...I know."said Virginia.

"Oh and something else....That last collapse, a few blocks from the Food Corner...The construction company used his cement products and they sued him...

He has changed his tune completely and is paying off the two firms who initially sued him and this new firm...

That and Jillian's fee will put him into Bankruptcy...." said Jade.

"Wow ,not his week huh?  This should make Miranda Jackson happy."said Yvette.

Miranda Jackson was the Attorney representing two of the three construction companies that was bringing suit against him.

"My Husband told me the D.A. is thinking about bringing him up on Manslaughter charges for the man found dead in his last building collapse...  I sleep with a Detective too!" said Jade, smiling.

"That you do...Come on, let's get ready for trial tomorrow..."said Yvette.

Virginia smiled...

THE NEXT DAY- THE JUDGES CHAMBERS- 7:00 AM-

In the Judges Chambers at the Courthouse...

Judge Gloria Bridell had a trial today, she was early, preparing for her day..She  was applying her lipstick...

Assistant District Attorney Sean Holmes walked into the chambers, closed the door and locked it..

"Sean!! What are you doing here?" asked Judge Bridell...

" I've got a trial today...I was in the parking lot when I saw you come in...I'm Horny...I've got a boner for you that won't quit..."he whispered , putting his arms around her...

It was now 9:30 am..

''What the hell is going on in there?" asked Ms. Yvette smiling.

"I don't know, but someone is certainly enjoying themselves.."laughed Jade.

"Yes, a little too much!! I don't recognize the voices...It's not Kelly Ann or Lt. Tragg."said Yvette.

"Somebody is getting their early morning freak off on."said Jade as both women laughed.

And in the courthouse waiting area...

"Coffee everyone!" said Holden...He and Alexa had volunteered to go fetch us coffees..

"Come and get it.."said Alexa who was in a cheerful mood this morning.

And unlike Bee Bee and me...There was no lipstick smudges on him...They did not stop to kiss..

 

 "Ohhhhh thank you..." said Ms. Yvette.

"Thanks Holden, Alexa.."I said.

"Yes, thanks Holden, Alexa..."said Bee Bee.

"Yes, thank you Holden, Alexa." said Sofia..

"Play nice girls.." said Alexa...

"Thanks guys..."said Kahlil..

"Yes, thank you."said Jade.

9:50 AM-

Judge Gloria Bridell ran up to the courtroom...She was out of breath...Fixing her hair and hurriedly applying her lipstick.

She walked into the courtroom....

COURTROOM A-

10:01 AM-

One minute late , We learned who our Assistant District Attorney would be... Sean Holmes , who we had met a few weeks ago....He recognized us and smiled..

"Well Hello." he said.

His suit was wrinkled and he had lipstick smudges on his lapel and the side of his face.....

Lt. Tragg followed him in....He was astounded to see all of us..

"I should have known...I should have known..." he said..Realizing that Yvette and her crew were involved in this case.

Yvette whispered to Jade... "I have an idea whose voices were  that we heard inside the Judges Chambers..." she said.

Jade smiled.. "I think you're right..I do too!" she said.

"Hey Look...It's Pretty Boy..."I said.

''Wow Imagine that! We get Sean Holmes as our ADA.."said Bee Bee.

"I knowwwwww! Look at him...His suit is wrinkled and he has lipstick smudges on his lapel and the side of his face.." gushed Sofia.

"From the lipstick on his collar and the state of his suit, All wrinkled..Someone else had him first."noted Kahlil.

"Lucky Girl."laughed Alexa....

Holden sat stone faced....

"All Rise for the Honorable Judge Gloria Bridell..."said the Bailiff.

"Be Seated.....I am Judge Gloria Bridell....I uh...I uh find I don't know any of you...Well one of you I do know."she said...surprised that she and Sean were in the very same courtroom....Can we start off with introductions..." she said Nervously...She peered at Sean, giving him goo goo eyes...

"Assistant District Attorney Sean Holmes, your honor, heh heh heh!" he laughed... He gave her goo goo eyes too. It was quite obvious now that these two had been in the Judges chambers.

 "Yvette Jones -Lockwood, Lead Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Yvette.

"Keith Jones , Attorney for the Defense your honor."I said.

"Beatrice Evans-Jones, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Bee Bee.

"Sofia Garcia-Ahmed,  Attorney for the Defense your honor." said  Sofia.

"Kahlil Ahmed ,Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Kahlil...

"Alexa Pratt, Attorney for the defense your honor.." said Alexa.

Our client ,Holden Louden sat with Jade..

Jade sat quietly...

"Alright we are ready for Voir Dire." said Judge Gloria Bridell.

Sean Holmes may have been a pretty boy, but he was no slouch...Apparently he had researched the jury pool also... The First ADA we had faced , who had done so as thoroughly as we did..

Even with Bee Bee and Sofia helping us.. By sitting behind us with their laptops and whispering questions to us and all...

Sean Holmes was laser focused....He had his questions ready for the jurors he wanted.

We slipped by with a 7-5 victory....

Ms. Yvette kept looking at how he looked at the Judge and how she blushed...and how he had a huge erection.....which he didn't try to hide....

"They know each other...The Judge and The ADA know each other..." she thought..

Lt. Tragg came to the same conclusion- He kept looking at how Sean  looked at  Judge Gloria Bridell and how she blushed...and how he had a huge erection.....which he didn't try to hide....

"Those two....They were the voices coming from the Judges Chambers...Not only do they know each other.. They're lovers.." he concluded

"Outstanding...We have a jury...Alright...Trial will begin here tomorrow at 9:00 AM. Attorneys and Jurors, be on time and ready for trial...Court dismissed." said Judge Bridell.

"So you're looking up the Good Judge eh?" said Yvette's husband, Gary ,sitting on the bed next to her.

"I was looking her up and our fair haired Assistant District Attorney Sean Holmes. It appears they know each other..  They have New York in common...He went to St. Johns and she went to Columbia, but I think they met at Harvard...They were actually there at the same time... She was a year ahead of him...

After graduating...They both wound up in New York... She was a Public Defender and he was an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan District Court... Then she got married for two years and divorced and I think their relationship continued, assuming it ever ended..She returned to Philadelphia where she was an ADA, before becoming a Judge and he soon followed , where he now is an ADA...They know each other."said Yvette..

"In the Biblical Sense..."said Gary...

"Yeah, how about that?"laughed Yvette.

Gary leaned over and kissed Ms. Yvette...

"Let's me and you get to know each other tonight in the Biblical Sense." he whispered....

She returned his kiss.....

With Gary and Yvette sitting on the side of the bed....He staring into her eyes and she kissing him passionately as she rode him slowly and softly.....

It was a nice night...

The trial began.....

Judge Gloria Bridell was removed on the second day....

Lt. Tragg visited the Legal Ethics Board in our building and complained about Judge Bridell and ADA 

Sean Holmes..

She was called before the Legal Ethics Board and made to recuse herself.

She was replaced by Judge Michael King who told Sean Holmes in confidence that Lt. Tragg had been the one who complained.

Sean Holmes was livid, but he couldn't say anything to Lt. Tragg...but his demeanor toward him was visible at trial.. He was beside himself with anger and this through him off his game and helped us...

 

 Ms. Yvette argued that there was no proof that our client, Holden was anywhere near Haley , her last few days alive...

Alexa ,who was working in the office with Haley said that although Holden liked her and was always asking her out....She had very little interest in him and only went out with him out of pity, because he was trying so hard...

I felt sorry for Holden....I could understand how he must have felt, liking somebody , who was so far out of his league,,, I brought up the fact that there was no forensic evidence found in her apartment...None,

No DNA and no prints linked to Holden....The reason was because...He was never there...

Holden winced at all of this and he slid down into his chair...but he realized we were trying to save his life...

Bee Bee, Sofia and Alexa   discredited witness after witness who it was found only repeated hearsay and did not actually witness a thing...

Kahlil  had Credit Card and Debit Card receipts that monitored Holden's movements and activities on the day Haley was last seen alive....Except for two unanswered phone calls...he had no contact with her at all...

Jade had done a thorough investigation...

Sean Holmes was a good lawyer and he did the best he could to salvage his case....but it was obvious after four days...He had nothing...In his closing remarks , he nearly argued Jury Nullification....

He glared at Lt. Tragg angrilly...

"You've given me a whole lot of nothing.... You didn't recanvass like I asked...and you brought no new evidence...You really loused up this case..." he snarled.

"Don't Blame me Harvard Boy....you're being out lawyered by some locals....You don't have your girlfriend to help you out..." said Lt. Tragg...

"WHYYYYYYY YOUUUUU!" snarled Sean Holmes who lunged at Lt. Tragg....

"CONTROL YOURSELVES!" said the female bailiff , getting in between them.... 

 "Looks like our boys are a little cross with each other..."laughed Ms. Yvette..

"Yeah...I heard that Lt. Tragg was the one who discovered Judge Bridell and ADA Holmes were romantically involved and he complained about it." I said.

"He's a Boob, that would have worked in his favor...Why would he do that?" asked Bee Bee.

That was a good question.

"Well on the first two days she proved that she was a fair judge and by the book...She didn't favor either side.. I for one liked her."said Sofia.

"I liked her too...She reminded me of Kelly Ann..."said Kahlil.

"He gave himself away, coming to court with his suit wrinkled and lipstick on his collar and lapel...

and a not so hidden bulge in his trousers....and her fixing her hair, out of breath...It was obvious to everyone.." said Alexa.

"Not to mention all that racket they made in the Judges Chambers.."said Jade.

"Yeah....in a way, Having Judge King was better...He kept everybody more focused..."said Yvette..

"I'm so sorry baby....I'm so sorry...That Lt. Tragg made me so mad...He really loused up this case..."said 

Sean Holmes..

"That's alright...My cousin is married to his Captain...I've got something planned for him...

"And I've got something planned for you..." he said.

"I wish you'd wait until we got to your place or my place.." she said as they began kissing..

"I can't wait...I just can't..." he said.

"Ever since that first time in law school...you've never been able to resist me..." she said as their kissing got hotter, steamier..

"Remember the night before you got married...?" he said.

"How could I forget? Whoooooooo that was nice..." she said.

"And even nicer, the night after your divorce.." he said.

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmph.."he groaned in his low baritone as the bed began to squeak and the headboard began to rattle..

''OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! IT'S SO GOOOD!! I CAN'T HELP IT" she squealed..

OUUUU HOO HOO...OH MY GOD!!!! OUUUUWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ''Gloria screamed..

Once again their loud lovemaking could be heard out in the hallway...

COURTROOM A- Day Six

Today was our second and final day of defense...Today was our topper..

Ms. Yvette called Halsley Welch...

He glared at Yvette angrilly...

"You formerly owned a Construction Company that sold supplies to local businesses correct?" asked Ms. Yvette.

"Yes..The law firm that employs you was representing me..." he said icily...

"And while there you became romantically involved with our para-legal Ms. Haley Barbera, the deceased." said Ms. Yvette ,showing the jury a glossy of Haley..

"No...She was the Para-legal ,assisting my attorney at the time.." he said..

"But you took her to Gazspachos...I have your credit card receipts...and"said Kahlil, turning on a 45 inch monitor...."That's film footage of your date taken from the restaurant the night you two went out..." he said.

"I took her out as gratitude for her work on my case.." he answered..

"That's a lot of gratitude....You two went to a number of Hotels and Motels in the surrounding area..."said Ms. Yvette.

Bee Bee, Sofia and Alexa showed the jury credit card and debit card receipts from area and suburban, Motels and Hotels on different dates..

''So you two had a relationship.."said Yvette.

"Okay, we did...So what?" he said coldly...

"She was a para-legal...She wanted to attend law school in the fall...You paid her tuition to Middleton for up to a year.....You wrote the check through a dummy company, which our investigator traced to another dummy company, which eventually led to you...." I said.

''After all the time you two spent together, all the money you spent on her...It must have really hurt you when you found out she was pregnant didn't it?  And we know she wasn't pregnant by you...You had a vasectomy two years prior..and you already have two adult children, Two adult children who are older than Haley...This angered you deeply when you found out and you strangled the life out of her!"said Yvette.

"You're mad...You can't prove any of that..." he said dismissively....

"Mr. Welch, you recently settled a suit with three construction companies, who held you liable for celling them cheap cement...Cement that caused their buildings to collapse is that not true?" asked Alexa.

"Yes, so what?" asked Mr. Welch....

Kahlil and I brought a cracked weight and a withered chain into the courtroom and placed it on the table..

"This chain and these cement overshoes were attached to this girl's ankles...and this cracked cement ball was used to weigh her down....She was at the bottom of the river. She was missing for a week.. She would have never been found except for this bad cement...The same cement you've been selling to other companies...The same cement responsible for three building collapses and the death of another person ...This cement was so bad...that in the water it wore thin and cracked and Haley's body floated to the top...This is your cement...Same ingredients....I have experts ready to testify to that..."said Yvette.

"You can't prove I killed that girl...You have nothing.." he said cooly...

"No right now I can't...,.but it certainly is something to think about..  The Defense rests!"said Yvette.

Sean Holmes snarled at Lt. Tragg...

"WHY AM I JUST FINDING OUT ABOUT HIM?  WHY DIDN'T YOU KNOW ABOUT HIM?"

Lt. Tragg looked like he'd swallowed a canary...

COURTROOM A-1:00 AM

It took the jury two hours to come to a verdict..

"ALL RISE FOR THE HONORABLE JUDGE MICHAEL KING!" said the Bailiff...

"Be seated...Has the Jury come to a decision?" he asked.

"We have your honor.."said the Jury Foreman..  She passed the sealed envelope

 to the Bailiff who passed it to Judge King.

He read the verdict and then passed it to the Bailiff... "Read it...Will the defendent and his attorneys please rise.

Holden rose...He was nervous...He held Alexa's hand..

She allowed him to...

We all stood quietly..

 

 

I held Bee Bee's hand.

Sofia held Kahlil's hand...

Jade stood quietly....

"We the jury ,representing the Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania in the Matter of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Holden Louden on the Charge of First Degree Murder find the defendent...NOT GUILTY!

"OH MY GOD!!  OH MY GOD!! I'M FREE!" said a jubilant Holden... He looked at Alexa..

"THANK YOU!  If it hadn't been for you, representing me, arguing I was innocent and getting these great attorneys...I'd be on my way upstate right now...I don't know if I can ever repay you..."said Holden..

"It's okay....I hope to see you around the office ,making deliveries..."said Alexa with a smile.

They both knew there was not going to be a repeat of the night they spent together. 

 "Well Guys and Gals, Another victory for us..."said Yvette ,smiling.

"That was almost too easy." I said.

"Not for Holden, his whole future was up in the air.."said Bee Bee.

"I see he and Alexa are talking...You think?"said Sofia.

"Nah! Nothing is going to happen...They're two very different people, two very different levels..."said Kahlil.

"Kahlil is a very wise man.."said Jade, smiling.

"You Dolt....You arrested the wrong guy...You are the worst....I never want to work another case with you again."said Sean Holmes.

Lt. Tragg ignored him...It wasn't the first time he'd heard this.

EPILOUGE-

Halsley Welch-was thrown into bankruptcy paying off the three companies who had suffered building collapses using his faulty cement..

He was held liable for the death of Homer Thompson , who died in one of the building collapses..After he paid his family.. He was broke..

There was never enough evidence to charge him with the murder of Haley Barbera...but he remains a person of interest...To date...Her murder remains unsolved.

We all boarded the two mini Buses of Olivia's and rode down to the Beach....Not for a cookout but to attend Stephen Bristol's latest venture...He was on the Board of a new seaside restaurant...

He gave us free tickets to his grand opening...

 

 "Ohhh this is beautiful....Thank you again Olivia for inviting us..."said Yvette,.

"Heyyyyyy you're my friends...and anything I'm privy to, you guys are privy to, plus this is a nice way to celebrate your recent court victory.." said Olivia.

"Yeah, you guys brought in a good case once again...Getting that guy off...Shame Lt. Tragg once again arrested the wrong guy..."said Gary.

''We can always count on him doing that."I said.

"You know we've made a cottage industry out of debunking his cases." said Bee Bee ,laughing.

''We ought to buy him something for Christmas.."said Sofia...

Alexa came with us...We were going to spend the night at Nelson's Beach houses... Alexa was the only one without a plus one...but she didn't seem to mind...She just liked being with all of us.

We didn't tease her about the ending of her relationship with Holden....

Sofia and Kahlil made sure she was comfortable and not alone...So did Bee Bee and I.

"This is a beautiful restaurant, with a beautiful view.."said Jade.

"And a nice breeze coming off the Ocean." said Danny Ho.

"I hope it's successful..." said Virginia.

"I do also.." said her husband, Jetty.

Attorney Toni Robinson was here with her current boyfriend, Our former client, Eric Sellers...

Eric Sellers had moved to Philly...He was living in the same apartment complex that Toni and Alexa lived in....And had transferred his credits to Drexel's Thomas Klein School of Law , where he was attending.

She got him a job as a Para-legal at the law firm she currently worked at..
 

"I hope everybody is enjoying themselves..."said Olivia.

 

"Oh how could they not? They get a gourmet meal at a hot new eatery, with a great view, They get free 

room and board tonight and a ride home tomorrow."said Donnie Ray.

"Plus there are several places on the boardwalk we can have Breakfast  tomorrow morning before we leave.."said Beverly.

"This is the absolute Bomb!" said Nelson....

''Another great weekend.."said Josie.

"I'll say.."said Paris.

"I love hanging out with this group..."said Bresha.

"Me too!  I knew from day one these guys were hip and did fun things..."said Tony.

"Oh you did, did you?" laughed Alfreda.

"Oh yeah..."said Tony... "I was sooo happy when Olivia and Bev offered her the job." said Tony.

''Well We all were happy when she got the job." said Rockland..

"Olivia told me that Stephon Bristol used to have a thing for her when they were in High School..

When he does things like this...I think he still does."said Jazzy.
 

"I suspect you're right...I'm just glad we all benefit from it." said Dabnis.

"Stephon has a lot of girlfriends....I don't think he's still carrying a torch for my cousin...He's just a friend."said Kayla.

"Maybe, but if he had a chance..He'd take it.."said Ray....

"Oh of course..." laughed Kayla...

Jessica was busy looking out at the ocean and enjoying the breeze...She wondered if she'd of ever been able to live like this , had she not been friends with Olivia. She was so grateful for Olivia's friendship over the years.

Her husband Chip, rubbed her shoulders and hugged her...He seemed to sense how she was feeling.

"This is sooo nice...Feel that Breeze..."said Karen...

"Yes... look at that view..." said B.L.

"This is so nice and we don't have to endure a long ride home ..We can rest at the Beach houses tonight and eat Breakfast tomorrow morning...Nice !" said Natalie.

"Aqua Bar tomorrow night."said David.

"Beverly has already planned it..." said Brooke.

"This is a great start to the weekend..." said  Sean.

"Yes it is." said Zoey.

"I smell those Steaks arriving..." said Lem.

"I do too!" said Renee..

"Mmmmmmmmm this is what I've been waiting for."said her husband, Tyrell.

"Ouuuuu I'm waiting for the Lobster..." said Lee.

"I know you are." said her husband, Matthew...

"Mmmmmmmmmmm !" said Nina.

"Here we go !" said her husband, Carlos..

Hot Steaming Steak and Baked Potato platters and Lobster platters were served to us...

Several cold mouth watering Martinis were also served..

To our surprise, Assistant District Attorney Sean Holmes and Judge Gloria Bridell walked in...They greeted everyone...

"Hello Everybody..." he said.

"HELLO!" said Olivia.

"Hello you two!" said Yvette..

"Hello." said Gloria.

"Hello Yvette...Hey, you guys  did a great job....No Hard Feelings..." he said.

"I'm just glad it's all over...."said Yvette...

Gloria showed her wedding bands...

"WE GOT MARRIED YESTERDAY!" she said.

"CONGRATULATIONS!" said Yvette....

"OHHHHH CONGRATULATIONS!" said Olivia.

"CONGRATULATIONS...Lt. Tragg arrested the wrong man..."said Alexa.

"Oh don't worry about him....I made a few calls to people ....Lt. Tragg has been dealt with-"said Judge

Bridell, Now Judge Bridell-Holmes.

So Once again, Lt. Tragg earned a trip to the Marine Boat....This time for Two weeks...

He was livid and vowed to get revenge on both Sean Holmes and Judge Gloria Bridell..

He sipped his Jameson Irish Whiskey..

As his boat drove out on the river.....

While we enjoyed a nice meal at a seaside restaurant.
