Comes The Judge

 Another day in the life of a lawyer!

Beverly, Josie and Bresha were in the law library doing research....They were studying  the Autopsy reports...The Crime scene Photos...all of the angles..what was in the room at the time.. and the witness statements...  They also studied the trial transcripts. Beverly had fresh photos of the crime scene...

They were also studying Capital Case laws, Predicates and Laws applied to cases like this in general..

In the Conference Room, Olivia and her old friend  looked at the trial transcripts...

"He was doing a damn good job,,with so little to go on....I'm just looking over the trial transcripts.." said Olivia.

"He did..He's a good Attorney...I'm going to the hospital to visit him...He's recovering well..I hear he may be released any day now." said Nina Rios...The Women's Law Project Attorney who hired Justin for this case...

''That Judge is really tough...he and her were going at each other the entire trial...She slapped a $5000.00 fine on him and threatened him with contempt charges and a night in the Cooler as well.. That is probably what drove him over the edge and brought his Heart attack on.."said Nina Rios.

"Nelson is on his way to the Judge's office now.. He knows her...They have history...He clerked for her father.  He is going to try and get her to rescind that citation." said Olivia.

"Good Luck with that..She's a Hard Ass!"said Nina.

THE OFFICE OF JUDGE TAMARA PERRY!

Judge Tamera Perry looked up...

Attorney Nelson East walked into her office..

She was stunned... She hadn't seen him in years...He looked good.. Damn Good she thought...

He was wearing an expensive ,tailored suit...and expensive shoes and a nice fragrance.. He had done very well for himself as an attorney she thought.

She remembered Nelson was fresh out of law school, had just passed the bar and had just returned to Philadelphia from New York, St. John's University, where he had studied....He was clerking for her late father, Judge 

Theodore Perry.

He worshipped her father.  He followed him around trying to learn as much as he could possibly learn.

She had been the same way when she had passed the bar, three years earlier..She was three years older than him and had been practicing for three years....She had absolutely no interest in her father's clerk , who was wet behind the ears...

Nelson had asked her out three times and three times she had basically told him to forget it..She wasn't interested...

It was Nelson's last week...His Clerking and Internship was over...He had accepted a position at the Public Defender's Office.

She didn't see him again for years after that ,until her father died...

He came to her father's funeral... He was with his then, fiance, now his wife.. an attorney he had met when he was a Public Defender..Beverly West...She was cute...young.. perfect for him...

He had been a Public Defender for years...At the time he was an Associate Attorney at Robert Foxworth and Associates..

Today, he was a married man and a part of his wife and her aunt's law firm...An intergal part...he was said to be Olivia and Beverly's  right hand man...This was the team that had taken over from Justin Brown and would be representing Sonia Lopez.

 

She wondered what brought him here today?

"Nelson , you look good.. Olivia and Beverly are taking good care of you huh?" said Judge Tamera Perry...

"They do." said Nelson..

"You've been married what? about seven years now?   To Beverly right?' she said.

"Yes." said Nelson.

"She's a lucky girl...Ummmmmmmph, she's got a horse amongst a world of ponies and I oughta know." said the Judge, alluding to the one night she and Nelson had together so many years ago...

"You married Tammie?" Nelson asked.

"Nah, I came close a couple of times...but it just wasn't happening.... Soooo I know you and your wife and her auntie have taken over the Sonia Lopez case and will be trying it in my courtroom...and you're here for a favor...What may I ask is that favor? Know this.. The fact that I am even entertaining you is because we have history...I usually don't confer with attorneys on either side before a big trial..." said Tamera Perry. 

She was still the Ice Queen, Nelson thought to himself.

"Justin Brown, the former Attorney on the case.....He's a a good guy...he's my friend...You slapped a $5000.00 fine on him....Come on Tammy...That was a bit much wasn't it?" asked Nelson.

"He's a fat pompous jerk who is full of himself and who tried my patience one too many times...I warned him....How is he doing anyway?" she asked.

"I haven't seen him,but I heard he's doing much better and might be out of the hospital in a few days."said Nelson...

''Believe it or not, I actually felt bad for him, when I heard he had a heart attack right outside my courtroom....Dude needs to eat more salads, lose some  weight...Seriously.." said The Judge..

"Tammie come on now." said Nelson...

"Alright, you did ask me nicely....but I'm doing this as a favor to you Nelson...I still don't like that fat pompous bastard, but I suppose he's suffered enough...I'll rescind the fine..." she said.

"Thank you Tammy....Thank you." said Nelson...

"I look forward to seeing you and your team practicing in my courtroom next week.. " she said as Nelson left...

As soon as Nelson was gone.. She went to her laptop and googled them all...

''We heard you're going home Monday...That is good.You get some rest and take it easy.." said Nina Rios.

 

"You did excellent at trial.. We've been reading the transcripts...We tweaked it a bit..but we'll be able to vigourously defend her."said Olivia.

 

"You take it easy fella." I said, smiling at him...

''We'll handle this case for you." said Beverly.

"I know you know about Hanging John..Watch out for that judge too...She's a real Barracuda." said Justin.

"Oh yeah, good news for you...I talked to the Judge...She agreed to drop that $5000.00 judgement against you..." said Nelson...

"Nelson, you are a saint in an expensive suit...Thank you...Thank you so much...I was trying to build my bank...She would have put me back at square one." said a grateful Justin Brown, shaking Nelson's hand...

"So you see, we've got your back." said Josie.

"We just want you to get well, that's all.." said Bresha.

THE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOHN WILTSHIRE-

"Nelson  East went to visit Judge Tamera Perry...He was in her office for an hour..Then he left." said Investigator, Ingrid Stevenson..

"Hmmmm wonder what he wanted with her..?" asked John..

"I don't know....He used to clerk for her late father, Judge Theodore Perry years ago when he first got out of law school, so they know each other...."said Ingrid..

"Hmmm wonder if he was  trying to get a favor?" asked John Wiltshire.

"In other news, Nina Rios went to the hospital to visit Justin Brown today...

Word is , he may be getting out of the hospital next week.. She wasn't his only visitor..Olivia Bennett-Alexander, Donnie Ray Alexander, Beverly West-East, Nelson East, Josie Boyd and Bresha Billips also visited him." she said. 

 

"Good Work, Good Work" said John Wiltshire.

It had been quite a day...Everyone had had dinner and left for the night... Beverly agreed to clean up the law library....

This consisted of putting the law books back and refiling files we had pulled out and emptying trash cans and bagging the trash...In addition to spraying disinfectant on the tables and wiping everything down..

Her mother, 

Alfreda usually cleaned the Law Library, but she told her, she'd handle the duties tonight and to go on home..

Beverly was almost finished cleaning up the law library....with help from her husband, Nelson...
