Teddy Bears and Barbie Dolls

 "Wow, this guy was strangled.." said a crime scene investigator...

''And he's got a Teddy bear in his arms..." said another Crime scene Investigator as photos were being taken...

"Body Temperature and Lividity says he's been dead for at least six hours...Meaning he died sometime around lunch time" said Dr. Marcy Templeton...

"This is number four eh?" said Hazel ,looking at the detectives..

"Yeah...My husband, Carlotta and Rico caught the first one a few weeks ago." said Detective Angie Belton Barlow...

"The Victim had a Barbie Doll in his hands.." said Detective Sirena Pile..

"Then Me and My Partner....Detective Anthony Hopkins caught the second one...

and he had a Teddy Bear in his arms..

Just like this one today...." said Sirena....Detective Sirena Pile, Tyriq's wife.

"Then me and my partner caught one last week...

with a Barbie Doll in his hand." said Detective Angie Belton -Barlow....and now this.." she said.

"They all have the same M.O.   A Muscle Relaxer was put into something they were drinking without there knowing it..a Beer, A Soda, Coffee.... They are helpless....paralyzed practically and then they are strangled.... That and the toy, either the Teddy Bear or the Barbie Doll.."said Sirena..

''So you guys are looking for a serial killer." said Hazel.

"Yes...We are keeping it out of the papers right now.... All of the victims are middle aged white men , three were accused sex offenders of young girls in their teens...I'm guessing we'll find that this one is no different....All of them got off without conviction...but were in some kind of program for treatment...They all had Muscle relaxers in them and all were strangled.. "said Angie.

''We've questioned family members, friends, fellow employees...We've studied the GPS on their smartwatches, phones and in their cars, studied their credit cards and debit cards and bank account action....It has all lead us nowhere...but we are still working." said Sirena..

"Can we release the bodies detectives?" asked Dr. Marcy Templeton...

"Yeah..." said Angie..

"Yeah, Email us the Autopsy report as soon as you can ladies." said Sirena.

"Okay guys, let's wrap him up." said Dr. Hazel Baylor.. She was so relieved to have worked her last four cases with Detectives other than Lt. Arthur Tragg...She simply hated working with him.....

The body of the man ,identified as 54 year old Arthur Stewart was put in a body bag ,strapped to a gurney and wheeled out to the Medical Examiner's Van...

Another murder in the city...

II-

The Next Morning at our headquarters, Sissy addressed everyone.

 ''Well Angie, Sirena.. I got the early Autopsy report back on your guy, Arthur Stewart....He is a twice convicted sex offender....was released last year from county and attending meetings...He had muscle relaxers in his system...administered through beer and a soda and his cause of death was manual strangulation...So that makes him victim number four.."said Sissy..

"And like the others..He either had a Teddy Bear or a Barbie Doll in his hands.."said Carlotta.,

"His Teddy Bear, like the other ones and the Barbie doll could have been purchased from any number of toy stores....Jimmy and I have got a team of both plain clothes and uniformed officers scouring toy stores all over Philadelphia,looking for whoever purchased one."said Tyriq.

"And so far that is leading us nowhere."said Jimmy.

"I think the killer is a woman." said Sirena..

"It makes sense...All of the victims are men and the muscle relaxers paralyze them so they can't fight back and then they are strangled."said Hop.

"Studies show that male serial killers operate differently...Female serial killers like to stay ,like to personally inflict the pain, the damage."said Duke.

"But it leads us to who?" asked Angie.

''The FBI has been looking into other crimes like this and we have found one....A Murder in Bayside Recently with the same M.O. , Man found strangled with a Teddy Bear in his arms and Muscle Relaxer in his system." said Sharon Hopkins, Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the FBI/ATF.

"We've been able to keep  this out of the paper for awhile, but we can't keep it out forever." I said.

"I hope by the time it does get to the press, we at least have a credible lead." said Sissy.

Just then Lt. Tragg walked into our headquarters....

"You've got four open homicides Sissy....The Deputy of Operations wants action on this...What have you got?" he demanded..

"All four men had either a Barbie Doll or a Teddy Bear in their arms." said Sissy.

"All of them had muscle relaxers in their system to paralyze them." said Carlotta.

"The Cause of death was strangulation..."said Tyriq...

''And all four men were accused or convicted sex offenders with an affinity for young girls." said Jimmy.

"We have interviewed Family,Friends, Fellow employees and social workers linked to all four men..

They don't know anything and these four guys didn't know each other" said Sirena.

"We've checked Credit cards, Debit Cards , Bank accounts of all four men, nothing." said Hop...

"We are going to talk to the detectives in Bayside...They had a simular case.last month." said Duke..

''We even traced the toys, The Barbie dolls and the Teddy Bears...They could have been purchased at any toy store in the area...so far we've found nothing...We have a team of plain clothes and uniform officers around the city looking into this." said Angie.

"And I've got my team looking for other crimes like this." said Sharon..

"As you see we are working this and working it hard... I think the Deputy of Operations knows all of this."I said.

"But you've got nothing...No suspect...." said Lt. Tragg.

''We are working these cases hard..." said Sissy tersely, angry that she and her team was even entertaining him...She was after all the Lieutenant and the person in charge of this unit...The Criminal Investigation Division...a crack unit assigned to investigate major crimes and major criminals...such as this..

Lt. Tragg hated that these cases were given to Sissy and her detectives , all who used to serve under him in his Homicide Unit..and not to him....He lorded over her that he was the "Superior Officer" , only because he held the rank of Lieutenant longer than she had...but not because of efficiancy... Sissy and her detectives usually had a one hundred percent clearence record... Now they had four open cases.

"I want to be kept apraised of these cases and the progress you're making...Like I said, the Deputy of Operations wants action on this." he said.

BAYSIDE ,PA- ONE MONTH BEFORE-

"Damn it smells like hell in here.." said a CSI man...

"A Generation of urine and feces in here." said another man...

"Junkies come in here to do crack and heroin and god knows what else.." said another CSI man who was snapping photos of a near mummified body with a Barbie Doll in his hands..

They were  in a long abandoned warehouse.....

"This Body is mummified..." said one man....

"This guy has been dead for over a year....but look at his neck....somebody really did a job on his neck..

ewwwwwww and this Barbie Doll in his hands....

That's weird ..That's why I called you in Babs." said Dr. Lindsey Summers, Coroner for Bayside.

"Babs" was Homicide Detective Barbara Hutton.....

"Oh My god...This is weird...." she said...She put on latex gloves and took a closer look at the body, then fished a wallet out of his pants pocket...

"It's a drivers license... His name is Brad Dickens.....I recognize the name...Detectives in Vice wanted this guy for questioning in a sex trafficking ring...He was due in court a year ago and he dropped out of sight." she said.

"Yeah, well he dropped back in sight...and phewwwww weeeee and look where we find him.." said Dr.

Lindsey Summers.

"Get him to the morgue...See if you can still do an autopsy..." said Detective Barbara Hutton...

The Body was put in a body bag, strapped to a gurney and wheeled out of the vacant building....

"They ought to tear this smelly old abandoned warehouse down....They aren't good for nothing but body dumps for overdose victims and murder victims." said Detective Hutton..

"Not to mention they are an eye sore...This place is making my eyes and my nose sore."said Dr. Summers.

"I hear that"laughed Detective Barbara Hutton.

We all had been working our now four unsolved murder cases hard.... Sissy was always reluctant to call a case a serial murder case and she demanded at first that we investigate all of these cases as singular, but the circumstances were too simular.. All four men had muscle relaxers in their body...More than the needed amount, all administered through coffee, Soda and Beer and all had been strangled. and all had a teddy bear or a barbie doll in their hands as if the killer was trying to say something...send an eerie, sick message.  Sissy dubbed this case the "Teddy Bears and Barbie Doll Murders" for want of a better title!

Jimmy stated that he and Angie felt the same way.

Sirena was happy she didn't have to cook...We had an excellent cafeteria in this building and we got three hot meals and a snack thoughout the day and had excellent rooms..

Hop and his wife Sharon certainly liked it.

Duke missed Hazel, but she stopped by after she got off work..

Angie enjoyed the camraderie....

So did Sharon, who didn't have to...but joined us as well..

I had a special office in the building where I could work on my other cases....

And Sissy's husband, Eddie C. joined us.... He did any extra cooking we needed..

Hazel, exhausted from being on the streets all night slept peacefully in the room...

Lt. Danny Ho of Robbery-Homicide dropped by...

"Sissy, you might find this interesting...A year ago....This toy store in Bayside was robbed...but check this out..A significant amount of Teddy Bears and Barbie Dolls was the only things stolen, nothing else... The police there found no fingerprints or DNA... but they concluded...The thief or theives was an amateur...Still none of the merch was ever found and the robbery remains unsolved... Maybe you should match your Teddy Bears and Babrbie Dolls to that Toy Store Robbery, see if there is a match." said Danny Ho.

"You know...That makes sense....Rico, Jimmy and I will take a trip out to Bayside and find out.."said Carlotta.

"Uh Before you go....Could I see you in my office a minute Carlotta?" I said softly..

Carlotta walked into my office and I gently closed the door..

''What did you want papi?" she asked..

We are calling these killings the "Teddy Bear and Barbie Doll Killings. So far four men have been killed, All holding a Teddy Bear and a Barbie Doll....All were middle aged white men and either accused or convicted sex offenders...The detectives working the case haven't made any ground yet, but I, the superior officer am going to take over this case and get some damn results." he said.

Sissy was livid...She showed up at the Press Conference..

"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?  WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO THROW A PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT MY CASE, MY INVESTIGATION AND REVEAL INFORMATION THAT HERE TO FOR NO ONE KNEW OUTSIDE OF MY DETECTIVES?  wHOEVER THE KILLER IS.. NOW THEY'LL EITHER GO UNDERGROUND OR CHANGE THEIR TACTICS...YOU IMBECILE!!!!"screamed an irate Sissy..

"YOU CAN NOT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!!  I AM YOUR SUPERIOR OFFICER!!" bellowed Lt. Tragg....

"This is the Deputy Of Operations...I told you he wants action on this." he snarled..

"Yes Sir...Good Morning my esteemed Deputy of Operations.. What is that sir?  I  what? I compromised an investigation? No Sir...I-merely stated the known facts of the case and brought up the inability of the detectives working the case to get any headway...No Sir...Yes sir, I realize , I didn't know that the public didn't know about the Teddy Bears and the Barbie Dolls...No sir sir...I-I, No my head is not up my ass..No sir sirrrrr....I am to say no more about this case...Yes sir sirrr..Yes, it's Lt. Sissy Van Buren's case...Yes sir sirrrrrrrr...They will have no trouble out of me...Yes sirrrrr sirrrrr.." he said.

Lt. Tragg looked like he wanted to cry...His body was shaking and his face was beet red....He immediately walked away....

Sissy had won the battle, but she felt she had lost the war...The Killer now knew that we were on to them and they could lay low or change their tactics..

"Yeah , these are definitely ours... Damndest thing...Theives broke in here...coulda looted our entire warehouse and all they took was Teddy Bears and a few Barbie Dolls... It was a small financial loss, but for the life of me, I didn't know why they did it and why they only took that. You say these things showed up in Philly?" said the store manager.

"Yes...in the past few weeks."said Carlotta.

"Damndest thing aint it?" said Tyriq.

"Yeah. I wasn't working at this branch when it happened.. I replaced the previous manager, who died.but I heard about it...Everybody heard about it." said the store manager..

A little while later.

"I checked him out guys...He's straight...He wasn't working here when the robbery happened last year...and the previous manager died....Cancer." said Jimmy.....

They came back to headquarters..

"Well we know where these dolls and this teddy bear came from...We've located the toy store..Danny Ho was right..This store was robbed a year ago...100 Teddy Bears and 90 Barbie Dolls were stolen."said Carlotta.

"That's all?" asked Sissy.

"Yup and the robbery was never solved and the merch was never recovered until now...It's showing up in the arms of murdered men."said Tyriq.

"We talked to the Robbery Detectives and the Insurance company....It wasn't much of a financial loss and so they just chalked it up as a weird case and dropped it." said Jimmy.

"Our favorite Lieutenant, Arthur Tragg called a press conference. He told the press about the Teddy Bears and Barbie Dolls being found on four middle aged men, all accused or convicted sex offenders...So now the one advantage we had has been blown."said Sissy.

''Whoever the killer is...will either change up or simply go underground." said Sirena.

"Making sure our killer remains anonymous.."said Hop.

"I wish Lt. Tragg would just go crawl into a hole or something." said Sharon Hopkins...

"Hope Springs Eternal." said Duke.

"The Deputy of Operations gave him a good stitching..."said Angie..

"He clocked out for the day."laughed Danny Ho.

"That's not like him...I figured he'd go and bug Olivia or Yvette or Karen Page...He loves bugging the attorneys...Wonder where he went?" I asked.

"Probably to Curleys or Sam Mother's Diner...to whine and complain...I don't care where he goes...just as long as he's not here." said Sissy.

He was actually at the Laundromat...

Whining and complaining to Judge Kelly Ann Mercer, who was off today and doing her laundry..

"Bayside to throw us off...Since all of the murders occurred in Philly." said Sharon..

"I have a vic from a month ago that meets all of your criteria...Middle aged white man, a convicted sex offender, found with a Barbie Doll in his hand in an old warehouse...He had been missing for a year...and we found traces of muscle relaxer in his system and cause of death was manual strangulation and blunt force trauma...I'm thinking my guy may have been victim number one!" said Babs.
