THE WAY IT ALL BEGAN- THREE WEEKS BEFORE.

Attorney Corrine Walton ,awoke in her tony apartment complex to see on the news that her good friend,

 

Kathleen Decker, the wife of wealthy Real Estate baron, Arnold Decker had been arrested and accused of his murder.

Her husband, Arnold Decker was her law firms biggest client at the moment... The two had become fast friends since her husband had aligned himself with her law firm..

She got on the phone and called her closest friend at the firm, Young Attorney Romeo Flanders..

He had helped her ever since she had come to the firm, Helping her set her computer up in her office...showing her around.

She was not fooled...She knew he had a school boy crush on her...He was cute, but a little young for her tastes...like nine years younger...Still he was good company... He too was a Senior Associate...His office just two doors down from hers and unlike her ,he did have experience in Criminal Defense law.

She needed him..She needed him now..

Kathleen needed him and her!

 

"This is how she explained it all to us in our conference room that day..

"She is accused of giving her husband, a lethal dose of fentynol in his drink.. They were partying at the Egyptian Club at the time..She claims she was on a different floor and that several people passed him drinks and interacted with him.. I believe her..I never believed she was a killer."said Corrine.

"Well what kind of marriage did they have? Was it happy? Was their problems?" asked Olivia.

"It was an open marriage...Even though he was considerably older.. He considered himself hip...They both had a string of lovers if that's what you mean.."said Corrie.

 

"Well I'm gonna need a list of these lovers...because I'm going to need statements from them...All of them." I said.

"Who was the arresting officer?" asked Beverly.

"I've had experience with him as a Public defender." said Romeo.

"We All have..." said Nelson.

"If he made the collar, I'm sure there is a lot he left out.."said Josie.

"You can bet on that.." said Bresha.

She was smart enough not to say anything to him once in custody.. She kept saying, "I'm exercising my right to remain silent." she kept saying..

"YOU'RE IN A LOT OF TROUBLE MISSY!  YOU'RE DOWN FOR MURDER ONE!" said Lt. Tragg.

"We went to his interrogation room...Olivia, I've never smelled a room so bad in my life. It smelled like hot garbage, sweaty socks and fresh urine..."said Corrie.

"EWWWWWWW!" said Beverly, laughing her head off!

Lt. Tragg looked up... "And who might you two be...Attorneys?" he asked. Thanking his lucky stars it wasn't.. Olivia, Myself, Beverly, Nelson, Josie or Bresha

"I'm attorney Corrine Walton , Mrs. Decker's Attorney and this is my associate, Romeo Flanders.." said Corrie.

"I know you...You used to be a Public Defender didn't you?" he said to Romeo.

"Yes, about three years ago."said Romeo...

'So you've moved up in the world huh? Good for you." said Lt. Tragg.

A Few Days later we arraigned Kathleen in open court...

Judge Kelly Ann was the judge..

Diane Baronski was the Assistant District Attorney who would be prosecuting the case....

The Oral arguments for Kathleen Deckers release began....It was quite obvious that Corrine was in over her head...though try as she might..

Because it was such a controversial case....Judge Kelly Ann set bail at 1.5 million dollars..

There was a Bail Bondsman there... and 

and Kathleen didn't blink...She paid the bail money and was released....

We stopped by the Egyptian Club to try and talk to people...

It was damn near impossible to interview anybody and so much debauchery ...

"Ohhh this is impossible..." said Corrine..

"Corrie, you need to hire some attorneys who are experts at Criminal Defense...This type of case...I know just the people you need...Olivia Bennett-Alexander and her niece, Beverly West....This type of case is tailor made for them.."said Romeo.

"I KNOW OLIVIA....I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH HER!...I HAVEN'T SEEN HER IN YEARS, BUT I KNOW HER!  YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT....LET'S GO  FIND HER AND ASK<, NO BEG FOR HER HELP!" said Corrie..

And this is how we got here.

II-

Romeo was a good Attorney and he mixed in well with our guys... The same age as Beverly and Josie, He was a good fit. He helped them with their research of the case, Reading witness interviews that I got for them, Looking at Crime Scene Reports, Crime Scene Photos, Autopsy reports, studying predicates, laws from like cases and general laws regarding this case.

Beverly was impressed..

"You're really good....You really know your stuff."said Beverly...

So was Josie...

"Yeah...thanks for helping us..." said Josie.

'' You guys are helping us...It would have took me forever to have gotten this far..."said Romeo.

and Bresha...

''Well now you know how to work, fellow Middleton Graduate."said Bresha.

A few days afterwords..He was looking at Video from the Egyptian Club, that I managed to get...As well as looking at Potential Jurors...

"Mannn this is an incredible operation you guys have here......I dig it." said Romeo.

"It works for us....The most comfortable situation I've ever been in."said Nelson..

"You were with Olivia the longest of everyone here right?" said Romeo..

"Yeah I was around her in the beginning....I had a big crush on her ...but I never acted on it...Then her niece ,Beverly started working there and it was game over..."said Nelson with a smile.

"I can dig it.." laughed Romeo nervously.

While in our conference room....

"Kathleen ,usually my girls do this...but they are busy......This is a phone, a Burner phone..."said Olivia,passing her a phone.

"Disable your phone and turn it off...If you need to communicate with us or Corrie....You call us,  on this phone.  Not our Business Phone , Not our Personal Phones.... This phone can't be cloned or listened to...

And this is a portal....You can use this to contact us and get information on how your trial is going."said Olivia.

''Wow , you guys are really something...."said Kathleen.

Corrine smiled..

''That's why they win cases." said Alfreda.

"I feel hopeful." said Kathleen.

"Good." said Olivia, smiling.

Corrie smiled too!

III-

While they were working...I was busy making phone calls.

I was wondering something about Corrine Walton.  She wasn't the first Attorney to come to us for help because they didn't have experience in criminal defense...but it was something about her, a fear...an unnatural fear she seemed to have about being in court, open court...She was basically a litigator...

She worked in conference rooms....A courtroom was more open....and there was something about Corrine ...Something about her that made me wonder....as a former Detective, I always trusted my hunches.

I made calls to Massachusetts,  Then New York and finally California...and what I found out was mind blowing...

I had to tell Olivia.

It was ironic that Romeo also lived in the same Apartment Complex as Corrine.. They drove home.

"Come on up to my place Romeo..." said  Corrine...

"WHATTTTT?" he said with a smile...It was the first time he had been invited to her apartment...despite them both living in the same complex..

She kicked her shoes off and sat on her couch

"Come over here....You've really been working hard and you've really helped me out...I am so grateful.

Romeo sat down next to her and stared in her eyes...He rubbed her legs softly.....

"Diane was good, but not good enough...We get our chance next week."said Beverly.

"I can't wait until we begin our defense..." said Nelson...

"Me neither."said Josie.

''While Three weeks.. I imagine the jurors are getting antsy.."said Paris.

''We don't want them to be totally turned off...We need to keep them engaged enough to care."said Bresha.

"Wow!  This case is wild.." said Tony.

"They've had cases like this before...They'll pull it out." said Alfreda.

Her husband, Rockland put his arm around her waist.

 "Diane is really earning her pay on this case.."said Yvette with a smile.

''She is so happy now of days...It appears she and Jake Patais are a team again."said Gary, smiling.

''What does Beverly say...The power of the panties."said Keith Jones..

"PAN-TAYS!" said Bee Bee.

"Yeah say it right..." laughed Sofia...

"I guess She knew how to draw him back." said Kahlil.

"Whether or not...Olivia and Beverly and the gang are still superior to those two and are going to pull this out."said Lem.

"If we broke up, you could get me back with sex." joked Tyrell.

"Like you're ever gonna leave me."joked Renee..

After we got home from the No I.D. Bar-

"So what do you have to tell me?" she asked.

"Your friend , Corrine Walton is not a lawyer....Not a licensed one. " I said.

''What ? She was on the Harvard Law Review...She graduated in the top third of her class at Harvard Law School..."said Olivia.

"Yes she did...but she also took the Bar in Massachusetts and failed it....She never took it again...She next wound up in New York and took a job at a firm there and operated as an attorney for three years until someone at the firm got wise to her and began to question her... She turned in her resignation and left for Los Angelas...

She never took the Bar exam in New York either..

She worked at a prestigious firm in Los Angelas for seven years...I don't know if they ever suspected that she hadn't passed the bar... but I do know, according to California...She never took the Bar Exam there either.

Back in Philadelphia, she's been very successful at the Harris Group...A Top Litigator..but to date, She hasn't taken the Pennsylvania Bar either..." I said.

"Oh My God!  She's trying that case with us.. I thought it was funny that it doesn't note her taking the Bar Exam on her resume...Not anywhere...Oh My God!  She is perpetrating a fraud..." said Olivia.

''What are we going to do?"I asked.

''I don't want to embarrass her. She is still my friend... I'm going to go to her in private and tell her what I know...and ask her to recuse herself. She can do that quietly....Then I'm going to work with her and help her pass the Pennsylvania Bar. She's a smart girl, Valedictorian at Girls High and Lasalle, Harvard Law Review.... Graduated with honors from Harvard Law School...I can't believe she failed the bar..She was so smart..."said Olivia,.

''Everybody has one bad day...Maybe she was up all night before the Bar Exam....she was tired, nervous...It could have been anything." I said.

Olivia smiled...

"I made Beverly, Kayla and Jazzy  go to bed at eight O'clock the night before they took the bar...I had been like a drill sergeant the entire time they were studying for it... I know they hated me for a time, but they didn't buck me...They studied hard, no boyfriends, no clubs, no nothing..

They took the Bar exam together and they passed with flying colors... They all hugged me and kissed me after they got their passing grades...

"And I stood there like a proud mama as they were sworn in by none other than Judge Jetty Dukes.

"I was sooo proud of my girls. I'm still proud of them. My Girls!"said Olivia,.

''And you remember...I was the same way with Josie..

"She was such a good sport and I was so proud of her and happy for her when she passed the bar." said Olivia,.

"So what are you going to do?" I asked.

"I'm going to talk to her, Woman to Woman and make her see why she ought to recuse herself..

I don't want Diane finding out about this  and harpooning our case."said Olivia.

I hung my head... This was a serious situation.
