He was understandably skeptical...but after awhile ,he relented and let us in...He kept eying Kool Kat funny..

Kool Kat surprisingly, said nothing...

We walked in and sat down...He put on a pot of coffee....

"My company...Morris Communications and Investigations is one of three companies that sponsered the Ms. Panties pageant...."I said and gave him a card... "I do investigating on the side..  I didn't find out Vonetta was your wife until today!!!She told me she was being stalked by a man she didn't know.."I said.

"I'm her husband....I saved her life...I'm disfigured because of her and that damned Ms.Panties pageant.....They were having try outs in that old warehouse with the faulty electrical wiring...I saved her from the explosion...I just got out of the hospital a few months ago...Soon I can take these bandages off..."he said..

"I know the whole story...You sued them and won and they paid and are still paying all of your medical bills and you won a healthy settlement....Congratulations sir.." I said..

"That's what I wanted to tell her...I have enough to buy us a house , a nice house, anywhere we want to live...and a car, for both of us...It's all in the bank....I've been staying here and continuing to work until I could talk to her and get her to come back to me...But she wouldn't talk to me.." he said..

He was telling the truth...I had checked... He had some six million dollars in his bank account...Tax free...part of his settlement with the owners of that warehouse....I wondered why he was working at the Center for the Blind... Making about 50K a year, when he had this kind of money...He had now answered my questions.

"Look...My job here is done...I'm convinced you mean her no harm...I've found you..... I'll set up a meeting for you two..At her loft....Here is my number....Give me a number I can reach you at."I said.

He gave me a number....He poured the two of us coffee and we drank in silence....

"I'll call you Mr. Eldridge..."I said finally as Kool Kat and I got up...

Once outside... Kool Kat confessed to me..

''Kev...I slept with her! I slept with that man's wife..I would have never of done that if I had known she was married..She played me..She played us both..." he said quietly...

Indeed I did..We had known each other since we were kids...No way he was going halfway across town to some woman's room at that time of night and NOT getting any....Walter "Kool Kat" Jones didn't operate like that...

"No, it was two nights....She expects me to come back tonight..but I'm not...I gave her the number to this burner phone....The one I give all my outside women..Take this phone Kev...get rid of it...I'm not going to see her again..I'm done with all of them outside women..."he said..  "I got a good girl..." he said. Thinking of Chelsea, His across the street neighbor, who he'd been screwing and seeing steady (for him) for the past four years..

"I can't wait for her to get back from the Big Easy...She comes back tomorrow..I'm going to get serious with her Kev...I want what you and Bad Girl have..."he said..Speaking of my wife, Sepia and our daughter, his god child...Kimberly...

I was amazed at how serious Kool Kat was...It was as if for the first time...He realized how destructive relationships could be and the toll they could take on people...He actually felt for Jordan Eldridge...So did I...

I was waiting at Vonetta's Loft when she returned....  She didn't seem to care that I was sitting in her living room, She took off her sundress and sandles and walked around the living room...clad in only a bra and panties..

"I think you should talk to him....You owe him that much...He saved your life...That could have very well have been you wearing that mask instead of him..."I said..

"But it's not....He would just hold me back.....I'm on the verge of becoming a big star.....I've got a meeting with the man who used to be Kevin Hart's agent...He's talking about a sweet movie deal...Jordan would just hold me back...I can't help him..."she said..

"I think you should talk with him.." I said.

"I don't care what you think....It's been over between me and Jordan....I carried him for years...I can't carry him anymore...I'm on to bigger and better things....I'm leaving Philadelphia...I'm moving to L.A. soon...And with that...I believe our business is over Mr. Morris." she said..

There was a loud knock on the door...

It was Jordan...She wisely put on some clothes...

"Vonetta, we need to talk...I received Divorce papers in the mail yesterday......" he said.

She knew where he was all along...This whole thing had been a charade...

"There's nothing to talk about Jordan...We are through..."she said tersely...

"Alright then...Here...I signed the papers.." he said...and tossed them at her..

She did look surprised...both she and I expected him to put up more of a fight...

I got up and walked out...

"Our business here is over..." I said...

I had been paid....This case was officially closed as far as I was concerned...

"I was going to call you." I said.

"That's alright Kevin...Thank you for everything...Could you drop me off at this address...I don't yet have a car, but I will soon.." he said..

''Sure man.." I said.

Vonetta called the number that Kool Kat had given her.... It was disconnected...He wasn't coming over tonight...He was never coming over again...

I drove Jordan Eldridge to the address he asked....Standing in the doorway, to my surprise was Hildy...His co-worker at the school for the blind..

"Jordan? Is that you baby?" she asked...

"It's all over...It's just you and me now...She wouldn't talk to me...I gave her her chance...Now it's just me and you.." he said... He looked at me..

"Look at her Kevin....She's stacked... Her dad is African -American...Her mother is from Honduras...LAWD!!!!!" he said..

And just when I thought I couldn't be surprised anymore... Here it was...After the divorce papers were delivered ...There was nothing else to talk about ..No begging...He took a good look at Hildy and realized...He wasn't in such bad shape after all..Maybe that's what he wanted to tell Vonetta.

If Kool Kat were with me, I'm sure he'd agree..

The divorce was final...But things didn't work out the way Vonetta Eldridge thought...Almost imediately, Jordan and Hildy got married..

He bought her a new car and one for himself...They bought a nice house out on the mainline...and both continue to work at the Center for the Blind...
