 COURTROOM D- WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON-

It had been a contentious three week trial...We had all worked hard on this trial.....defending our client..

I ,Senior Associate Attorney Keith Jones was giving the closing sumnation...

Ashley Simmons, a young Black Health Care Worker falsely accused of killing a woman she was caring for....

We were all exhausted...Ms. Yvette allowed me to give the closing sumnation...High praise indeed, showing her trust for the four of us.. Meaning me and my colleagues..

My wife, Senior Associate Beatrice Evans-Jones...

Senior Associate Attorney, Sofia Garcia-Ahmed..

and her husband, Senior Associate Kahlil Ahmed...

and our investigator, Jade Lee-Ho , who did a stellar job of investigating this case....

We had been up against celebrated Assistant District Attorney Darren Gillian, who had won his last 100 cases....and had given us our first loss on Voir Dire, winning a 7-5 advantage, including the jury forewoman... It had been a tough case...

My Father, Judge Keith Morrison stood in the visitors section watching proudly as I gave my closing sumnation...

Trial Judge Kelly Ann Mercer smiled..

"With that the case goes to you the jurors....I will ask the attorneys and the defendent to exit the courtroom from the rear, while I give the Jury instructions...It's been a long trial and I know you all want to go home...but still pay attention to the case the defense and the prosecution has made...Look at the facts and come to a sensible conclusion." she said.

We all sat out in the waiting area....

My father couldn't have been prouder-

"You did good in there boy, you reminded me of your dear old dad when he was a defense attorney...Ha hah hah....." he said patting me on the back..

"Thank you dad!" I said.

''And where is my daughter in law?, come here.....You keepin him straight Bee?" he asked , hugging Bee Bee..

"I'm doing the best I can Mr. Morrison." giggled Bee Bee.....

"How's Married life Judge Morrison?" asked Ms. Yvette...The last time we had seen him was at his beach wedding...to Assistant District Attorney Sharrone Stokes.

"JUST WONDERFUL!!  I should've done this a long time ago." he said... "How you guys doin, you all were great, he said to the rest of us..

"Oh Just fine sir." said Kahlil..

"Fine." said Sofia...

"Just fine your honor and thank you." said Jade.

"That's good." said My father..

Assistant District Attorney, Darren Gillian walked over to my father...

"Judge Morrison, Judge Morrison....That's your boy there huh? Keith Jones....He's turning out to be a fine lawyer..He kinda reminded me of you when you were a defense attorney.." laughed Darren..

"Oh and congratulations on the wedding." he said.

"Thank you....Thank you Darren." said my dad!

COURTROOM D- 24 HOURS LATER-

"ALL RISE FOR THE HONORABLE JUDGE KELLY ANN MERCER!" said the bailiff.

Kelly Ann walked into the courtroom and took her seat...

Assistant District Attorney Darren Gillian walked in..He had a confident smirk on his face...He was certain he had won his 101st case...

We stood with our client......Then we all took our seats....

 

 ''Don't you worry baby, I'm certain we won this...I'm certain you'll be free." said Ms. Yvette

"I hope so Ms. Yvette." said Ashley, who nervously held Ms. Yvette's hand...

I didn't say anything, but I sat confidently with my arms folded.

Bee Bee looked at me serenely and smiled..

Sofia held Kahlil's hand...

Kahlil looked stoic...

Ms. Jade managed a weak smile.

We loved Judge Kelly Ann...She was tough but fair and very knowledgeable of the law, but a real sweetheart outside of court..

"Has the Jury come to a decision?" asked Judge Mercer.

''We have your honor" said the Jury Forman.. He passed the verdict to the Bailiff who passed it to Judge

She read it and smiled.She looked relieved....

"Read it" she said.

The Bailiff read it..

"COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF ASHLEY SIMMONS ON THE CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT, NOT GUILTY!!"

(We expected that)

"COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF ASHLEY SIMMONS ON THE CHARGE OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT , NOT GUILTY!!

"THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGE, COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF ASHLEY SIMMONS ON THE CHARGE OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT, NOT GUILTY!!

We were overjoyed!

"Slam Dunk Baby!" I said, high fiving Kahlil..

"Damn right Homeslice."said a jubilant Kahlil...

"Oh thank you all soooooo much...I thought I was a goner there for a minute."said a jubilant Ashley...

''We told you we would get you off!" said Sofia.

''We had an appeal drawn up if we had failed...but we won't need it." said Bee Bee , who like Sofia, hugged Ashley.

"And thank you so much Ms. Yvette and Ms. Jade." she said, hugging them and crying profusely..

''All in a days work little lady.. I told you!" said Ms. Yvette, who had run the defense  and had supervised every inch of it like the master she was.

"Good Luck to you Ashley." said Jade, whose stellar investigation poked holes into the prosecutions case.

Assistant District Attorney Darren Gillian's streak of 100 straight victories came to an abrupt end...There would be no 101st victory!....He was very disappointed and surprised!!..but he realized...you can't win them all..He was a little embarrassed losing to Yvette and her crew of young attorneys, but that was the way it was...

CURLEY'S BAR-COUPLES NIGHT!

The drinks were flowing!

 

 "I am so relieved this trial finally came to an end and in a positive way.." said Ms. Yvette.

"I'm buying a round of drinks for all of you...Congratulations on another fine win.."said her husband, Gary...

"Thanks Gary." I said.

"MORNING!" said Ray..."Mannnnnn we got some hot women on this block, including our wives." Ray whispered to Tony....laughing..

"Oh No doubt man....Good Morning Ms. Virginia." said Tony.

"Hola Mami!"said Jessica.

"Good Morning."said her husband, Chip.

"Goood Morning." said Paris.

"Wellll this ride just got more populated...Good Morning."said Rockland.

Tyrell and Renee were already at the train station when we all arrived..

"Whoa...Look at this..We got a full house this morning." said Tyrell..

"Good Morning Everybody." said Renee.

.The train took us all straight to our building where we worked...Only Rockland  got off after the rest of us did.  We all had been working in the same building for awhile now.

"Hola Ms. Yvette, Hi Olivia, Beverly..." said Attorney Jessica Sanchez-Burrows..

"Hey Ms. Yvette and crew. And Hello Olivia, Beverly, guys" said her husband, Attorney Charles "Chip" Burrows. The Innocence Project, who they worked for , moved into the Bridge Building at Penns Landing just days before Ms. Yvette and us moved into the same building..

"Hey everybody..." laughed Ms. Yvette.

"We thought you guys were going to drive in today." said Attorney Jasmine" Jazzy" Coley

"Man this train is comfortable and quiet...I love this...I don't even drive in when I have a court case.. I ride the train into Center City.That's what they're doing...That's smart." said Dabnis, rearing back..

"Yeah I guess it is.. They'll be there on time." laughed Attorney Kayla Bennett_St. Jacques..

"Yeah, no  traffic jams and such." said her husband, Ray.

Our New Friends and building mates, Natalie and David Charles and Brooke and Sean Marks were already on the train when we got on...They got on a station before all of us...

"Well Hello...It's Friday  day." said Natalie..

"Or Fri Yay as some folks say it." said David..

"Yes, the weekend.."said Brooke.

''I can't wait until quitting time.." said Sean.

"Hi Olivia, Hi Vettie." said Zoey, also riding in this morning.

"Oh Hey Zoey..."said Olivia.

"Livin for the weekend?" said Lem.

"I hope so...I hope so Lem." sighed Yvette.

Everybody got off at our building and headed for the elevators that would take us to the cafeteria and breakfast.... Little did we know, our next case was unraveling before us.
