A Mysterious Whisper

"A Lot has changed guys...For one, the ADA, a guy named Donald Giorgio from New York has dropped off of the case...

He thought the case was very weak...He didn't want to prosecute it.. He asked Lt. Tragg to do some more recanvassing, to interview more people, to bring him more and of course..

Lt. Tragg refused arguing that it was a strong case... So Giorgio dropped the case, asked that it be passed on to someone else.." 

said Olivia as we sat in the waiting area.. 

"That means he's smart....Who got the case?" asked Beverly...

"An Old Adversary, The D.A.'s son....

Assistant District Attorney Chris Garcetti.."laughed Olivia.

"Who is the Judge? I Hope Kelly Ann or Julie Wong."said Josie.

Olivia grimaced and sighed..."Judge Joseph Crawford."she said.

Talking about the randy Judge who had an unhealthy lust for my wife..  We hadn't tried a case in his court in a few years...

"Oh God....Your Boyfriend..."laughed Beverly.

"That's not funny Niecey Poo!" said Olivia,laughing.

Bresha cracked up laughing...Olivia and Beverly had told them all about him and his late night calls from a blocked number inquiring about the color of her panties and bra and asking what she was wearing at the moment.....

He had lectured her when she was in law school and had been a brilliant attorney in his time..She like us found it hard to believe he was such a freak in real life...

Nelson and I walked in with coffees for everyone...With us was Lani Jenkins...Sweet Dick's wife..

"Hi Guys...I'm ready for trial..." said Lani Jenkins.

"We are too!" said Olivia.

ADA Chris Garcetti walked in...He had kind of been on a roll lately, winning his last five cases and thrilled to be taking us on again.

Lt. Tragg walked in with him..He looked at us and simply smirked..  He hadn't liked ADA Giorgio...He had thought he was a wimp for dropping out of the case and he didn't like the hold he had on his girlfriend, Kelly Ann.

"Well Guys, Ready for trial?" asked Olivia..

"Ummmmmmmmm Ummmmmmmmmmph! I know I'm ready for trial..."said Judge Crawford in Olivia's ear...

Beverly, Bresha and Josie snickered...

Nelson and I followed the girls into the courtroom..

COURTROOM B-

Good Morning , Good Morning Attorneys and perspective jurors...I am the Honorable Judge Joseph Crawford...I see a number of you who I know....Due to court overcrowding of cases we have to forgo a preliminary hearing...We are going to seat a jury today and trial will start tomorrow...So let's get started with introductions of the attorneys....Let's start with the women...ummmmmmmmmm ummmph,lawd today..." he said.

"Olivia Bennett-Alexander ,Lead Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Olivia.

"YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!" he said...Olivia hated that he acted like this...So did I.

"Beverly West -East, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Beverly...

"LAWWWD HAVE MERCY!" he said.

"Josephine Boyd..Attorney for the Defense your honor..." said Josie.

He stared at Josie's Breasts... "OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" he exclaimed..

"BRESHA BILLIPS, Attorney for the defense your honor." said Bresha...

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" he exclaimed.. Both women looked at each other and sighed...

"Nelson East, Attorney for the Defense your honor.."said Nelson.

"Chris Garcetti, representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania your honor." said Chris Garcetti.

"I know your father, the D.A.  Yeah...Okay.....Alright we'll begin with Jury selection." said Judge Crawford.

Jury selection was certainly different with Judge Crawford compared to the last Judge we had..Judge 

James Wilson....Now on Death Row for committing three murders... When he was Judge, He really gave us a hard time all the way through our last trial..It was a miracle we won the case...A Miracle none of us was jailed for contempt.

Crawford might have been a Horn Dog, but he was 100 percent better than Judge Wilson.

Nelson asked his questions with Josie and Bresha assisting him, using the questions he had written down kept on their laptops.... Judge Wilson hadn't allowed them to aide him at all.

Chris Garcetti had a young Para-legal helping him also....

He did better this time....

We wound up with a 7-5 split , going Nelson's way.....with the Jury Foreman surprisingly going Chris Garcetti's way....

"Allllllrighttttt! We have a jury.....Trial will begin promptly tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM...Attorneys and Jurors be on time and be ready for trial...You are dismissed."said Judge Crawford, looking at Olivia,Beverly, Josie, Bresha and Chris's para legal and shaking his head ,while trying to hide his erection...He was going to enjoy having all of these good looking women in his courtroom at one time he mused.

We filed out into the waiting area..

"Well here we go.." said Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins...

He had his arms around his wife's waist....

"Hang in there man...We are gonna get you out of this." said Nelson.

"I'm certain of it and I never say I'm certain of anything unless I am."  I said.

"You know what the old folks used to say back home Donnie Ray...Aint Nothin Easy." said Sweet Dick..

"Aint that the truth!" I said as the bailiffs handcuffed him and he was led out of the courtroom to the prison bus that was going to take him back to the Men's Correctional Center.. I hated seeing him handcuffed like this.

Olivia was standing in the hallway alone..When Judge Crawford came behind her and whispered in her ear...

"Black, sheer Bikini right?" he said. "Heh heh Heh!" he laughed as he walked away...

"OH MY GOD!!" exclaimed Olivia....He was right!!! But how could he know? she thought...

"Ready to go Auntay?" asked Beverly....

"Yeah, Yeah, let's get out of here.." said Olivia...

"Come On Lani...We are going someplace night to eat lunch." said Josie.

"Yeah Lani, come with us." said Bresha,.

"Lead the way Ladies..."said Lani.

We passed by the Judges Chambers as we left.. Lt. Tragg had made a bee line to the Judges Chambers right after trial was dismissed for the day... There he found Judge Kelly Ann, who had dismissed her case.. The two were kissing passionately..

We took Lani to the Bridge Building , Where we could eat in peace , even though we no longer had to worry about Lt. Tragg bothering us....

Lani was amazed at the size of the cafeteria and all of the different food choices.

"This place is great and all of your friends work here too huh?  Must be nice."said Lani. 

"It's wonderful...I love it." said Olivia.

 

''We don't come here everyday...but when we do it's always a treat." I said.

"This place is such a vibe." said Beverly...

"It is..." said Nelson..

"And Bree and I get to see our husbands." said Josie.

who was sitting on Paris's lap..

As well as Bresha , who was sitting on Tony's lap..

"I seeeee, tee hee... This place reminds me of Hotel Buffets in New Orleans...I can't wait to go back home."said Lani.
 

 ''Well your husband will be free soon..."said Yvette.

"You two will have to hang out with us, next time we all come to New Orleans."said Keith Jones.

''We had so much fun there in November." said Bee Bee.

"I understand New Orleans is the place to be right about now!" said Sofia.

"Too Many people right now!" laughed Kahlil.

"Let's keep our mind on the tasks at hand right now...One, getting your husband off and two us planning a weekend getaway. " said Jade.

"Yeah...those two things." said Virginia.

"I gotta stop by the Market after work tonight."said Jazzy.
 

"I'll run you up there in my car..."said her husband, Dabnis.

"Can I hitch a ride?  I need to pick up a few things too." said Kayla.

"I guess it's Netflix and Chill for us eh Hubby?" said Jessica.

"Yeah, just another night at home babes." said Chip.

"Same here....I'm going to go home and get a nap until B.L. gets home." said Karen.

"Wellll, I know what we are going to be doing?"laughed Natalie...

"Oh yeah!"laughed her husband, David conspiratorially...He couldn't keep his hands off Natalie..No need in sugar coating that they were going to have wild non-stop sex when they got home.

The same was true of Brooke and her husband Sean, who weren't talking but

"I think we better head to that Market too and grab some snacks when we get home." said Zoey

Judge Joseph Crawford knew his law and was tough but fair...He didn't interfere or appear to favor one side over the other...Though he did cast a keen eye to our side..

Though he kept his eyes on Olivia and Beverly intensely....

When he wasn't ogling Josie and Bresha....

"LAWD JEEEESUS! Olivia is fine and she surrounds herself with fine young women..." he said to himself..

Chris Garcetti laid out Lt. Tragg's case picture perfect... Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins...an out of town Gambler was brought in by persons unknown to kill Vic DeLong and his associate Carlo Ruffin for the mob....They were leaning on the wrong people...They gave him a throw down gun and he executed the two men in Chinatown outside of a known Floating Crap game....

Olivia objected saying he was introducing facts not presented as evidence in discovery and unproven.

Beverly and Nelson found themselves objecting to Chris a number of times and demanding that he prove his allegations..Naturally, he couldn't...

Chris Garcetti presented two witnesses to the actual shooting..

On cross Josie got both witnesses to admit that they heard a succession of shots...but they didn't see anyone actually shooting or running away...Since it's believed the killer escaped down the dark alleyway..

Bresha showed street cam footage that actually showed the flash from the gunshots , but no visual of the killer..  The Killer she said emerged from the dark alley, out of the street cam's sight and executed the two and ducked back into the darkness...

She then showed video footage taken minutes later of Sweet Dick Jenkins, getting in his car, parked directly behind the victims unaware of what had just happened, and speeding off..

"He can't be in two places at once." she said.

Sweet Dick looked at me...

"They're good...They're damn good." he said.

"And we haven't even begun our defense yet." I said.

Lt. Tragg was frustrated and angry at the way we had taken his case apart by the seams..

ADA Don Giorgio sat in the visitor section shaking his head...  He knew this case was weak and had holes in it..and the defense was doing exactly what he feared they would do...He sighed a sigh of relief..He knew he had bit a bullett..No way he would have wanted to be humiliated like this. Lt. Tragg was either an idiot or a lazy cop or both he mused to himself.

Chris Garcetti brought up Sweet Dick's two past convictions and painted him as a "Career Criminal " who was a paid hitman and asked the jury to find him guilty of both murders....

Nelson said we had convinced most of the jury of reasonable doubt.....He read the jury as 10 to acquit and 2 undecided.... He didn't think we'd have a hung jury after we mounted our defense.

III-

TENDER WAS THAT NIGHT!

We Were home..

Olivia popped open a bottle of Champaigne we had from one of our many celebrations..

and poured two glasses..

"Champaigne Liv?  Aren't we celebrating a little early?" I said smiling.

It was now our turn to open up our defense of Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins.

He sat in court looking very contrite and a bit confused. He couldn't imagine how he'd gotten here.

Olivia opened her defense by explaining that Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins was a longtime friend of several of our acquaintences..

She presented his three daughters.

Mabel, Corabeth and Anita Jenkins , Sisters from New Orleans who had moved here and began a very successful business...Two Soul Food Restaurants and a Catering Business..He was up here to see his daughters...

and reconcile with his estranged wife.....Lani, who she presented..

Beverly presented Eddie Lee.

Eddie Lee testified that Willie Jenkins played in his card game and won 100K before quitting...That he did not have a drink, nor did he talk to anyone after he finished playing.. He said that because of the way they hassled his players... He never allowed Vic Delong nor Carlo Ruffin in his game....but said they hung outside to collect from one of the many players who owed money to them and it was quite a few , he said.

Nelson presented two guns..

One, a legally owned .22 caliber pistol belonging to Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins and the other...

The other , a .22 Caliber gun with the serial number filed down...a street gun....The Murder weapon found in the backseat of Willie's car....Tossed there by the killer before Sweet Dick exited Eddie Lee's card game..

Nelson explained that after Sweet Dick left Chinatown, he drove across town to an all night diner where he ordered breakfast and ran into him, his wife and other friemds...with no knowledge that that gun was on the back seat of his car.

"If you had just murdered two people...wouldn't you have tossed the gun down the sewer or something?" asked Nelson to the jury..."Why would you ride around all night and part of the next day with it?" he asked.

Josie called in an FBI expert and a person from the Medical examiner's Office that testified that they found no prints and no DNA belonging to Willie "Sweet Dick " Jenkins on the gun, but that they did find a partial print and sweaty DNA belonging to Lonnie Mulligan on the gun.....

Bresha showed the monitor with footage of Willie Jenkins actually leaving Eddie Lee's joint right AFTER the shooting and jumping in his car with no idea what had just happened and pulling off..

"He can't be two places at once.

Olivia called Lonnie Mulligan to the stand.

He took the fifth several times , when asked if he owned the gun...if he could explain why his prints and sweaty DNA was on the gun...He wouldn't answer...When asked where he was at the time of the murders, he simply said at home asleep.. He didn't come off as credible at all.

Chris Garcetti snarled at Lt. Tragg

"You didn't check the gun for additional DNA or Prints?   You didn't know about him? My GOD, what kind of detective are you??" he screamed...

"Button it Buddy, Button it!" said Lt. Tragg...He realized he had screwed the pooch with this one..but he didn't want to hear it from Chris Garcetti..

From a distance in the visitor's section, ADA Don Giorgio shook his head in exasperation and in relief...

This could have been him instead of Chris Garcetti....He knew how bad Chris wanted a win in this case.

Olivia rested our case....

''We got this Boss Lady."said Nelson.

"I was never more sure."said Olivia.

"Easy Peazy." said Beverly.

Now we had to wait for the Jury's verdict!

IV-

COURTROOM B- THIRTY MINUTES

"ALL RISE FOR THE HONORABLE JUDGE JOSEPH CRAWFORD" said the Bailiff.

"Okay be seated." said Judge Crawford...

Chris Garcetti stood...He had his fingers crossed that in spite of the weakness of the case that he might have pulled it out. 

Olivia looked as confident as I'd ever seen her.

 

I looked at Beverly...

She looked confident too.

So Did Nelson

And Josie.

And Bresha.

Sweet Dick stood with his wife Lani..

He held her hand...His hands were sweating..He was not as confident as Olivia,Beverly,Nelson,Josie and Bresha were.

"Has the Jury come to a decision?" asked Judge Crawford.

"We have your honor." said the Jury Foreman. He gave the envelope to the Bailiff ,who gave it to Judge Crawford.. He read it and looked at Olivia and smiled. "Read it!" he said softly..

"WE ,REPRESENTING THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF WILLIE JENKINS FINDS THE DEFENDENT NOT GUILTY OF COUNT ONE, FIRST DEGREE MURDER, VIC DELONG..

ON COUNT TWO, WE REPRESENTING THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA IN THE MATTER OF WILLIE JENKINS FINDS THE DEFENDENT, NOT GUILTY, COUNT TWO FIRST DEGREE MURDER, CARLO RUFFIN." 

"Alright, Mr. Jenkins you are free to go...Unhandcuff him boys." said the Judge.

"THANK YOU JESUS!" said Sweet Dick as he was released... He hugged and kissed Olivia and Beverly...  "AND THANK YOU GIRLS FOR WHAT YOU DONE!" he said.

As was their custom, Olivia and Beverly leaped into the air and high fived each other and screamed.

"WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

Sweet Dick and Lani embraced each other in a passionate kiss.

"Ohhhhhhh baby, you're free." she said.

"Let's rent a hotel room and order some champaigne" said Lani.

"Chris, that's why I didn't take this case....I could see how weak it was from the beginning.You should have passed ." said the new ADA Don Giorgio...

"And you've been around for awhile...and you should know better.....I know...I just hope you don't run all of your cases like you ran this last one...You really screwed the pooch on this one." said ADA Giorgio, walking away...

Lt. Tragg knew that he didn't like this man.

Judge Crawford whispered in Olivia's ear as he was leaving.. "Pink, your panties are pink today."

he said and giggled.

"OH MY GOD!!" exclaimed Olivia....He was right again!!! But how could he know? she thought..

EPILOUGE-

Lonnie Mulligan was eventually arrested , tried and convicted of the double murders of Vic Delong and Carlo Ruffin and given two life sentences... He is treated like a kind of hero amongst the inmates, considering who he is convicted of killing.

In a few days as planned , We all boarded the buses and headed to Nelson's two Beach front Houses..

It was Winter, but both houses had Central Air and were very warm. and comfortable.

 As usual, Our group and Yvette's group inhabited House one..

"Well We are here...It's Thursday...We have today, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday to rest, relax, do whatever." said Olivia.

 

"I'm all for doing whatever." I said laughing.

"Good idea...It's so nice and warm here inside tis house,"said Paris.

"Pass me my phone.. I'm gonna invite, Jessica and Chip over to play some cards with us."said Bresha.

"Cool...Normally we'd be over there."said Tony.

"They'll all wind up over here eventually anyway."said Alfreda

"Yeah they will."laughed Rockland...

 

 "I'm going to enjoy my room and it's comfortable view of the beach."sighed Yvette..

"Yeah, me too!"laughed Gary..

"I know you will, I'll be there."laughed Ms. Yvette.

"Bresha called Jessica and Chip, they'll be over to play some cards."said Keith Jones.

"Oh Cool...and we are all going to that shop tomorrow." said Bresha.

"Yeah after breakfast."said Sofia.

"Ummm New Bikinis eh?" laughed Kahlil...

"We buy other things besides Bikinis and Panties..We do buy clothing." said Sofia.

"Yes...We do." said Bee Bee, smiling.

"I might go along with you girls." said Ms. Yvette.

"That would be so cool."said Sofia.

"Yeah!" said Bee Bee.

Jade laughed at their banter....

Her husband, made sandwiches...and popped open a beer...

"Lt. Tragg is the laughing stock of the precinct ....The way he goofed that case up..but from what I understand, The Bosses aren't laughing." said Danny Ho.

"I imagine it's back to the Marine Boat for him.  It's been a year since he's been in any kind of trouble or under any scrutiny." said Virginia.

"Yeah, it was too good to be true.."laughed Danny.

"Not for that joker."laughed Virginia's husband, Jetty, who was quaffing down a beer.

And everyone else inhabited House Two-  This included our friends.,Nina Rios and her boyfriend, Carlos and our recently freed client Willie "Sweet Dick" Jenkins and his wife, Lani... Those two couples drove down, following the buses.

"This is soooooo cool, A Winter mini-vacay.." said Jazzy ,unpacking her bags....
 

"Yeah, just what the doctor ordered....I know me and my staff needed it after the past few weeks in court and litigation....Yours too!" said Dabnis.

"When we get situated, how bout we break out some games ?" suggested Kayla..

"I wanna play with you.."joked her husband, Ray...

"You always want to play with me...You have a one track mind....That's all you think about.."laughed Kayla, sitting on his lap...

"Bresha just called me...She wants us to come over and play some cards." said Jessica.

''Sounds fine with me."said her husband, Chip, quaffing down a beer and making a sandwich.

"I just want to stay in our room and chill with you." said Karen.

"Sounds like a plan to me."said her husband, B.L.

Natalie, David, Brooke, Sean, Zoey and Lem were already sitting at a table in the living room area, playing cards and eating sandwiches and drinking beer.

"We going out later on tonight?" asked Natalie.

"Only if everybody else is going." said her husband, David.

"Same here...Other than that I'm perfectly comfortable right here, relaxing."said Brooke.

"Me too!" said Sean..

"I call....You guys are getting old."joked Zoey...

Her husband Lem was laughing..

Renee and Tyrell were nowhere to be found.. They were in their room with the door locked. Making sweet love.

"Ouuuuuuuuuu you couldn't wait."laughed Renee as Tyrell entered her...

"I couldn't.." said Tyrell.

"I've got you spoiled..."laughed Renee.

"I'm afraid you have." said Tyrell..."Ouuuuuuuuuuu" he moaned.

"Oh My God~!" she moaned..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" he moaned....

Their bedsprings could be heard slightly in the hallway..

"Aye Mios Dios...We just got here...They couldn't wait!"laughed Nia Rios.

"I don't blame him."laughed her boyfriend, Carlos.

"This is a nice set up Olivia has here for entertaining all of her friends." said Sweet Dick.

"It is...What a nice way to celebrate your release and our getyting back together." said Lani as she and sweet dick sat in their room and looked out at the beach and boardwalk..

We brought cards for those who wanted to play Poker, Spades, what have you..

Chess

and Backgammon....

and plenty of meats and cheeses and condiments and hard rolls for sandwiches...

Beer

and plenty of Hot Cocoa and Coffee for those that wanted it....

Jetty was right about his Breakfast Spot...We all walked over to it and filled it up everyday we were there having Breakfast and Lunch...

We found a nice restaurant to have dinner in and dined there several nights...

And of course at night...We returned to the bar we loved so much...

and had drinks ... It was a very restful few days.

Walking along the boardwalk was the young man who formerly owed Vic Delong 80 large...He was sooo relieved not to have to pay that money back.. He had only raised half of it..but with them both dead...

 He didn't have to pay any of it to them...It was all his...He sighed, thinking about his good fortune.

No more gambling for him, he thought.

You don't get breaks like this everyday, he mused..

As he looked over at the beach and the water....
