Hot Coffee permeated the air...

HOT FLUFFY PANCAKES, right off the griddle..

HOT SAUSAGES

HASH BROWNS

AND FLUFFY EGGS....

We were having a late brunch, after having appeared in court at 8:00 am this morning, and having just 

been dismissed at 11:34 am.

"I'll never ghet used to these Eight O'clock trial times...I thought after I left the Public Defender's Office I was done with that,." said Beverly as she sipped her coffee and enjoyed her pancakes.

"You and me both Neicey Poo.  For a number of years I was done with that... but here of late, the trial dates get earlier and earlier."said Olivia.

 

"Well, at least we won the case and won't have to get up early tomorrow. morning..."I said as I enjoyed my eggs, hash browns and coffee.

"This is true...Auntay, let's go to the mall tomorrow...Do a little shopping?" said Beverly.

"That's a great Idea...Let's go at around noon." said Olivia.

"I'm going to get a little more sleep." laughed Nelson..

"You're going to need it." said Beverly,laughing slyly...

"Ouuuuuuuuuu you are so fresh."laughed Josie..

Bresha smiled as she cut her pancakes....

Ginger Anderson, unknown to us was also sitting in Sam Mother's Diner... She spotted us and waved and smiled..

No one wanted to talk to her...but she got up and invited herself to our table...

"Olivia, Donnie Ray, Beverly....Nelson...Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii , I just happened to see you guys sitting over here.." she said.

Beverly grimaced ..She really didn't like Ginger and it went back a few years...

Olivia smiled.. "Hello Ginger." she said diplomatically.

"Hi...I just want to tell you, I forgive you for putting me out like that during the trial....I understand you guys had to do what you had to do to free Jeffrey...and I'm so happy with how well he's doing..Finally passed the bar, Got a job with a great law firm..McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt.." she said.

"He even has a new girlfriend."said Beverly...

Josie, Bresha and Nelson smiled sheepishly and hung their heads low....

"Ughhh yes.." said Ginger, obviously very uncomfortable with that fact being brought up.

"By the way...How are you and Bruce doing?   I hear you two are hot and heavy." I said, trying to lighten up the situation...

She grimaced and frowned , which I didn't expect at all.

"I don't know how much longer I can stay with Bruce." she said..

"REALLY? I thought you all were doing so well...Every time I see Bruce, he's all smiles."said Olivia.

"He may be happy, but I'm not.....The thing is...He's surprisingly very, very good in bed....

"He has sent flowers to my office every day since that happened....and called...but I haven't taken his calls...I don't know how much more of him I can take.."said Ginger...

"Maybe you two should try couples counseling."said Nelson.

"That's a good idea Nelson... If I ever start talking to him again...I'll suggest that."said Ginger.

"Like I said...He is good in bed....very good...I don't want to lose that...but it's just the rest of him...Oh My God....Thank you all for allowing me to unload on you all." she said as she got up and walked to the counter... 

"WOWWW!" said Olivia, smiling.

 

"That was something...What a revelation." I said.

"Just what I needed...An expose on Bruce Greene's sex life."said Beverly...

"I'm amazed he gets such high grades..."laughed Josie.

Over top of Eddie Lee's great Asian fusion restaurant was a floating , all night casino, that featured  several card games, peopled by High Rollers, Asian and Russian Gamblers and a few well heeled African-American gamblers.. The cops knew about it, but turned their heads because Eddie Lee kept the neighborhood quiet...No Drugs and no killings.

"And that is yours." said Attorney Colin Pollard as he paid off the last of the four  people he owed money to.

"Wow Counselor...How'd you get so flush? A Settlement from a big court case?  I thought a couple of these guys were going to find you and break your legs..."said Eddie Lee.

"That wouldn't bode well for me in court...I had a big win in court and so...I'm using my percentage to pay off my debts." said Attorney Colin.

"That's a good practice...Now, until you learn to play cards better, I'd suggest you keep your distance between yourself and this room."laughed Eddie Lee.

"Eddie I'm going to take your advice and limit my visits here to your great Asian Fusion eatery downstairs...No More gambling for me.."laughed a relievd Attorney Colin Pollard.

He smiled and walked down the stairs into the restaurant..

He didn't realize he had been followed..

He sat down in the restaurant and ordered a fine meal and a bottle of Saki...He felt good tonight... he wasn't prepared for the man who sat down with him..

"Hello Counselor...You had a good night tonight." said the man..His name was Richard "Rickey" White, A Private Investigator who occasionally worked for Colin's law firm.

''What do you want Rickey?" asked Colin Pollard.

"You paid off those four gamblers you owed money to...What was it? 25K a piece...That's 100 large..wow.. 100 large that you embezzled from company funds...wowwww..."he laughed.

"I paid you 25k too, last month and I'll have you know that I've replaced that money, every last penny...So don't think you're going to continue to blackmail me."said Colin..

"Oh you out maneuvered me with the money...You were very clever...but you can't outmaneuver me on this..

He pulled out some glossies..

There was a photo of Aimee Stewart, the wife of the Black Partner....Chess Stewart....

"That's you and one of the partner's wife, Aimme Stewart isn't it?    Wowwwwww! You two were Hot and Heavy !!!  And I've got the negatives in a safe deposit box..  You can have these...I have plenty more copies where this comes from..."he laughed.

"YOU BASTARD...YOU'RE GOING TO DRAIN ME DRY!  WHAT DO YOU WANT?" asked an enraged Colin Pollard..

"100 large...You've got one week to get it for me... $100 large and I'll tell you where my safe deposit box and leave a key and you can get the negatives and I'll be out of your life for good..  I'll be on my way to Brazil  or maybe Dubai to start a new life..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...Good Night Counselor...Enjoy your meal." he laughed.

THE NEXT DAY-

The Doorbell rang at our Office /Duplex-

Alfreda answered..

"WOW!  I haven't seen you since Nelson and Beverly's wedding and you're even prettier than you were then....You're Nelson's Mother in law aren't you?" said Colin..

Alfreda blushed something crazy....

"I'm sorry but I don't remember you." she laughed.

"I remember you....I see where your daughter gets her good looks from....Is Nelson in right now?" Colin asked,.

"Yes...I'll take you to them.."giggled Alfreda, still blushing...

"Nelson, you have someone here to see you."said Alfreda..

"COLIN....OH MY GOD...WOWWWW HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?" said Nelson..

"Hi Colin." said Beverly.....

"Hi Bev, Ms. Olivia..."said Colin..

We were all in our conference room ,going over our last case. 

"Hello Colin." said Olivia.

 

I seemed to be the only one who didn't remember this guy.

Beverly sensed it and told me.. "He was at our wedding..He's Nelson's friend from law school.." she explained.

"Colin here got me through three years of law school..always helping me study and focus... we studied for the bar together and passed it the same day..."said Nelson.

"Nelson was my main man during law school..He was from Philly and I was from South Jersey..Close enough."said Colin , who looked Josie up and down...

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmm are you married?  I remember you from the wedding..." he said salaciously..

"I wasn't married then...but I am married now." she said.

"You come here looking for a bride Colin, because me and all of my girls are married.."said Olivia, laughing.

"That's righttttt!" said Bresha.

''Even Beverly's mama?" he jokingly asked.

"Especially my mama...She's married to an Assistant District Attorney." said Beverly protectively..

Alfreda laughed and hugged her daughter....

"All jokes aside...I am here because I need your help. I'm a Senior Associate with the firm Climber ,Horowitz and Stewart."said Colin.

"Ohhh that's a major law firm.....Are You in trouble Colin?" asked Nelson.

"Well, yes, I've been a very successful attorney, winning big million dollar litigations and taking home a large percentage...I began gambling...First it was a little bit here and little bit there.. Soon I found myself owing some pretty bad boys...25 large a piece... To pay my debts off.. I uh and I'm not proud of this..I embezzled 100K of my firm's funds...I thought I was doing it quietly..,.but I was seen..Seen by one of the firm's investigators, known as Ricky White..he's a real toad.. He had receipts.. He Blackmailed me for 20large...I paid him and I paid off all four gamblers I owed money to... I replaced all of the money I embezzled and I've joined Gamblers Anonymous." said Colin.

"So you're free and clear...What is the problem?" I asked.

 

"Well I uh am also a bit of a ladies man." he said.

"Noooooooooooooooo, who would 've thought that?" said Olivia...

"REALLY?" asked Beverly.

Alfreda, Bresha and Josie howled with laughter...

"What kind of trouble are you in Colin?" asked Nelson.

 

"I had an affair with one of the partners wives.. Aimee Stewart, 

the wife of the one Black Partner.. Chess Stewart ....

.It was last year..It's over... I am certain he doesn't know."said Colin.

"Let me guess...This Rick White has photos..."I said.

"Yes and the negatives are in a safe deposit box somewhere.. He wants 100 large...I've got a week to get him the money. He says after I pay him...He'll give me the negatives and he's splitting These are the glossies."said Colin , showing us the photos.

"Don't believe that...He'll keep on Blackmailing you." said Olivia.

"We can counter sue him, bring him up on charges...but that of course would expose you....Right now..I don't know how much we can do...but we can try..."said Olivia.

"Thanks Guys....Nelson, Bev, Nice seeing you all again." said Colin.

CURLEYS- COUPLES NIGHT-

Couples Night....Drinks were plentiful as usual.

Colin decided to come out with us tonight.

"Thanks for inviting me out tonight Liv......You've got a nice group here." said Colin.

 

"We all come out every Thursday Night...Couples Night..You get Two free drinks for every two drinks you pay for as a couple."said Olivia.

 

"It's good we have buses to pick us up...We'd be pretty toasted by the time we leave here." I said.

"It was smart of you to pack an overnight bag and agree to crash in our sub-basement apartment over the weekend.." said Beverly...

"Yeah...even though you don't have a plus one...You will be toasted by the time you leave here."said Nelson.

"You see all the drinks we have here."said Josie.

"Drink up."said Paris, who was already toasted.

"Having transportation keeps us out of the trouble we would be in..."said Bresha.

"That's for sure.."said Tony...

"Even if we had a designated driver..We still might be in trouble."laughed Alfreda.

"Thank God for the buses that take us to our doors." said Rockland. 

"I love it!" said Colin.

 "You look toasted and you're not even drinking with a partner."said Yvette, who was pacing herself tonight.

"Yeah...I don't like hangovers." said Gary, who was  drinking Ginger Ale and Club soda.

"Gary would be our designated driver..He's only drinking Club Soda and Ginger Ale." said Keith Jones.

"He's a smart man, but we just finished a major case...I want to drink."said Bee Bee.

"Nothing Like knocking back a few cold ones after a big case." said Sofia.

"Nothing like it." said Kahlil.

"I'm like Gary ,drinking Ginger Ale and Club Soda."laughed Jade.

"The New Sobriety."laughed her husband, Gary...

"Don'tcha Love it?" laughed Virginia.

"Yeah, I love it.."laughed Jetty...

Colin had stopped drinking...He was checking out Natika Sommers hard.. but he saw she was obviously with someone..

"He's over there sucking face with Kelly Anne...He's not worried about us."said Karen.

"He hasn't bother us in awhile."said B.L.

"Nothing Like knocking back a few cold ones after a big case." said Natalie.

"Nothing like it." said David...

"These Drinks are Ice Cold and delicious." said Brooke.

Sean was drinking an ice cold Coke.

Zoey was drinking a cold glass of water and pacing herself..

So was her husband, Lem.

"I think I'll have a club soda and a ginger ale...I'm a little toasted."said Renee.

"Yeah me too!" said her husband, Tyrell.

"I think I'm a little toasted too!"laughed Lee.

"They must lose money on this night.. We buy two drinks and they give away two more drinks."said Matthew.

"They work overtime...I know that..." said Nina.

"They probably hate to see us coming."said her husband, Carlos.

Across the Bar..

Ginger was sitting with Bruce.

Bruce was prattling on and on nonstop about his last case and the Public Defender he had been facing.

Ginger wasn't even listening to him..She was tuning him out..She had caught the eye of Colin..

 "He's probably still at Curleys spinning around as he was doing when we left and he discovered she wasn't there."said Yvette.

Gary cracked up laughing...He spit his drink out...

"She's a slick one..She's probably cut her phone off and disabled the GPS."said Keith Jones.

"Oh I know she did that much." said Bee Bee.

"Or Bruce would be here...You know that much."said Sofia.

"Bruce doesn't have a clue....First off.. He didn't even notice Colin and she was gone when he came back from the Men's Room." said Kahlil.

"That's right.. He has no idea where she went."said Jade.
