MONDAY AFTERNOON- 
 

We were in our conference room having a working lunch...

We had ordered Take out from Chinese Bob's restaurant in our neighborhood and they had delivered it to our building.

"This is a great set up you have here Yvette...I am impressed and proud of you." said Judge Michael Jeffries, who had once been a Senior Associate Attorney at McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt..

and had mentored a young and green Yvette Jones when she arrived and had watched her grow into a senior associate and now a Managing Partner at the firm , with her own suite and supervising four attorneys , who were now Senior Associate Attorneys as well and an investigator and an office manager.

He was impressed. "This is quite a come up." he laughed..  He had left McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt.. and had become a Common Pleas Court Judge... He had been a Judge for many years now...

 

 "Thank you Judge Jeffries and I'm sorry we can't represent you right now...We are in the middle of a major case ourselves.... But I do know of a pretty good Attorney who might help you...Jhett Garland...ever heard of him?" asked Yvette.

"Jhett Garland...Yes...I have heard of him...I believe my wife attended law school with him... I know of him...How do you know him?  He never worked for the firm?" asked Judge Jeffries..

"He's an old Boyfriend.. a very old boyfriend...but a fairly good attorney."said Yvette.

"Pretty good huh?  Okay...I'll give him a call."said Judge Jeffries..

I was feeding my wife, Bee Bee some Chinese food and she in turn was feeding me..

"Umm this food is soooo good." said Bee Bee.

"It is Delish." said Sofia, who was feeding her husband, Kahlil some Chinese food..

Jade smiled as she looked at them and enjoyed her food...

"Virginia ,I'm glad to see you have landed well on your feet....I must admit....I thought you were buried when you were disbarred and sentenced to 10 years to life a few years back..."said Judge Jeffries.

"I thought I was buried too...but I was paroled after 7 years and Yvette here gave me this job as her office manager and legal consultant...She was a God Send." said Virginia.

"Good Deal, Good Deal!" said Judge Jeffries as we enjoyed our lunches and our meeting.

TWO DAYS LATER-

Miles away in the townhouse Judge Jeffries shares with his wife...

"You'll never guess who I'll be defending???....YOUR HUSBAND!!! He called me yesterday and asked me to defend him on that bribery charge."laughed Attorney Jhett Garland...

 "I'm sorry about that Judge Jeffries...I'm really surprised at him...He's really very receptive..." said Yvette.

''Almost like he's predisposed on something else." I said.

"He could be...He's a working attorney like us."said Bee Bee.

"I'm sure he'll get back to you sir.."said Sofia.

"We can only hope." said Kahlil.

"Yes we can only hope." said Judge Jeffries , who was more than a little bit annoyed...Not at us...but at Jhett Garland and his not being available.

"Your wife can't defend you can she?" asked Jade.

''She said it would be a conflict of interest.."said Judge Jeffries.

"How?  I can't see how it's a conflict of interests." said Virginia.

"Me neither." said Jetty. 

"I know this attorney, Jhett Garland." said Jazzy.
 

"You dated him once didn't you?" asked Dabnis.

"No, not me....but Kayla did, briefly..." said Jazzy.

"Very Briefly...The Summer after we passed the bar, before I moved to Atlanta...He is quite a rogue...He had a wandering eye..."said Kayla.

"He had you and he looked at another woman?" asked Ray.

"The things you say when you want some..."laughed Kayla.

Jazzy and Jessica cracked up laughing...

So did Chip, who high fived Ray..

"Well I hope he comes through...These Bribery charges are serious."said Karen.

"They are bogus....There is no truth to them.." said Judge Jeffries.

"We believe you."said Natalie.

"Let's hope your lawyer can convince a jury that you're innocent."said David.

"I know of this guy, Jhett Garland...I worked a case with bhim once.. He is very thorough, very detail oriented...If anybody can win this case..He can." said Brooke.

"I wonder who the ADA will be?" asked Sean.

" Yeah...I wonder."said Zoey...

"Bruce Greene...McCaffrey??" asked Lem.

"The Intrigue is interested,,,I'd like to attend the trial."said Renee.

"I would too!" said Tyrell.

"WOW!  Interesting."said Tony...

"A trial that none of us is involved in , but all of us are interested in..."said Paris.

"I'm bogged down with a case of my own..."said Lee Phillips..

"I want to get on your case." whispered Matthew to her..running his hands up her legs and partially up her dress....

Lee smiled and subtley removed his hands...

"You always want to be on my case...calm down..." she whispered quietly...

"I might walk over to the courthouse while the trial is going on..." said Nina.

"I sure hope so Vettie."said Judge Mike Jeffries.

COURTROOM E- ONE WEEK LATER-

We were in front of another Judge named Michael...Michael King..

"Has the jury come back with a verdict?" asked Judge King..

"Yes your honor...We have." the Foreman said.

He passed the verdict to the Bailiff, who passed it to Judge King.

he read it without showing any emotion...

"Read it " he said.

 

 Ms Yvette stood stoically...

Our client, Larry Tate stood next to her, holding her hand...His hands were sweaty...He was nervous.

I held Bee Bee's hands..

She smiled at me and rubbed my knuckles softly...

Sofia smiled at Kahlil..She wasn't holding his hands..

He stood stoically as the bailiff prepared to read the verdict..

So did Jade.

"We the Jury in the matter of the Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania vs, Lawrence Tate on count three,

Mansalughter, finds the defendent, NOT GUILTY..  On Count Two, Murder in the Second Degree, we find the defendant  NOT GUILTY, ON the Most serious count, First Degree Murder, we find the defendant,, NOT GUILTY and on the charge of using a weapon in the commission of a crime..We find the defendant, NOT GUILTY.." he read...

Our relieved client, hugged Ms. Yvette...His head resting on her soft breasts...

"Oh Thank you Ms. Yvette, thank you all." he said, still hugging her.. 

 "You are quite welcome.." said Ms. Yvette, easing out of his embrace...

Bee Bee and I gave each other a congratulatory kiss....

ADA William Swift shook his head... He had lost to Olivia and Beverly a few weeks ago and had now lost to us...He slowly walked out of the courtroom...

AND NEXT DOOR TO US, COURTROOM D-

"Has the Jury come to a decision?" asked Judge Kelly Anne Mercer

"Yes your honor, we have." said the Jury forewoman...

She passed the verdict to the Bailiff, who passed it to Judge Kelly Anne Mercer.

She read it without showing any emotion...

"Read it " she said.

"We the Jury in the matter of the Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania vs Judge Micheal Jeffries on the charge of  Bribery, finds the defendent, GUILTY AS CHARGED,... " read the bailiff.

Judge Michael Jeffries stood in shock....He now faced Disbarment and possibly up to 10 years in prison.

His attorney , Jhett Garland, looked surprisingly unbothered...He didn't even offer an apology....

The Assistant District Attorney, Kevin Bellamy pumped his fist in the air and smiled broadly...

The Judge's wife, U.S. Attorney, Lisa Jeffries smiled slyly and then put on an act as though she was shocked...Crying and shaking for every one to see...The truth is ...She had set this entire scenario up...

paying a guy to lie in court on her husband and giving him plane tickets to the Caymen Islands after his testimony.   It was the only way she would be able to divorce her husband and get any type of settlemment... Their Pre-Nup offered her little to nothing if she divorced him before four years or if she was found to have cheated on him, something she had done several times within the four years of their marriage.  Jhett Garland was just the latest of her lovers.

It was a terrible day...For Judge Jeffries...

Kelly Anne felt bad..She knew Judge Jeffries...She liked him...She hated to see this happen to him.

"I would like Attorneys for both sides and Judge Jeffries to meet me here next week for sentencing." she said  as the courtroom adjourned.

CURLEY'S BAR-THAT NIGHT-COUPLES NIGHT...

It was not a ceremonious night tonight..Not for Judge Jeffries...

"I can't believe it...I just can't believe it!" he kept saying as he drowned his sorrows in drinks.

 

 "I am soooo sorry Mike...This is all my fault....I should have taken your case....I thought Jhett could have handled this.... I'm going to represent you...Pro Bono.... We are going to appeal your conviction...First thing Monday Morning." said Yvette.

"Hey, where is your wife, how come she's not here tonight?" asked Gary.

"I don't know where she is...She was very upset by this too!' He said.

"Wow, I thought we'd be here celebrating a double legal victory." I said.

"Yeah, we are only celebrating our victory....You can't win them all."said Bee Bee.

"Jhett should have won that case...It was tailor made for him...what went wrong?" asked Sofia.

"Something obviously went wrong...That guy rarely ever loses..He's pretty sharp...I find it hard to believe he lost this one." said Kahlil.

"Nobody wins em all..We are going to slip up one day."I said.

"I have nightmares about such a day..." said Sofia.

"I have bad dreams, but not quite nightmares."said Bee Bee.

"That's why you work hard....So that you don't slip up." said Kahlil.

"Kahlil is right."said Jade.

"Hmmmm...I didn't see Jhett losing  either, but the ADA ,,Kevin Bellamy is pretty sharp too!

He hardly ever loses."said Danny Ho, Jade's husband.

"Well we've got to start working on that appeal first thing Monday Morning."said Virginia.

"Yes and your disbarment hearing is also next week..Somebody should start working on that too!"said Jetty.

"I can't believe it....I've been a lawyer all this time and a good honest one and a good honest Judge...I've never accepted a bribe..I've never been approached about one and here I am facing 10 years in the slammer and disbarment...I'm ruined." said Mike Jeffries.

"I've handled a few cases where I have successfully gotten people's law licenses restored that were disbarred.  Vettie, give me Keith, Sofia and Virginia...and we'll get to work on that." said Olivia.

"Olivia, all my life I wanted a sister..but my mom and dad didn't have any more kids and then came that fateful day I met you...and there you were..My sister..." said Yvette, hugging Olivia and kissing her on the cheek.

"Awww ,I feel the same way about you Vettie." said Olivia. "Get your mind out of the gutter..We are not going to make out."said Olivia to her husband, Donnie Ray.

 

"Heyyyy I didn't say nothin..."laughed Donnie Ray....

"Monday Morning, we'll begin working on his disbarment appeal..."said Beverly.

"Yeah, it's good to get ahead of this thing."said Nelson.

"For real."said Josie.

"Wow! What a state of events."said Paris.

"You're telling me."said Bresha.

"Take Notes...This is a part of law I know nothing about." said Tony.

"Wow...funny how cases drop into your lap." said Alfreda.

"I know...I've always liked Judge Jeffries." said Rockland,.

"I've always liked him too!  I've tried a few cases in his courtroom." said Jazzy.
 

''So have I." said Dabnis.

"And I as well...He's always been fair.."said Kayla.

"Just like Judge Kelly Anne..."said Ray.

"She was the Judge in his case..." said Jessica.

"Wow, Imagine that!  She has to sentence him next week."said Chip.

Besides obvious disbarment. He's looking at up to 10 years in prison." said Karen.

"Oh wowwwww!" said B.L.

"I know Jhett Garland or at least of him...How could he have fumbled the ball on this case?" asked Natalie.

"Nothing is written in stone and you know as I know, Jurors are funny and fickle." said David.

"This is true...you never know, you never really know which way the wind is going to blow on this." said Brooke.

"Well Yvette and her team are going to be working on his appeal...and Olivia and Beverly will be helping...They'll get him out of this." said Sean.

"If anyone can help him...Those guys can."said Zoey.

"How lucky he is...to have friends like them." said Lem.

"Indeed."said Renee.

"I'd like to sit in with Olivia and Bev next week...I believe there is something I could learn there."said Lee.

"Ask her...She likes you...I'm sure she wouldn't mind."said Matthew.

"I can tell you where she works....but you've got to come home with me...." said Bruce Greene slyly..

While her husband was crying in his beer at Curley's Bar... His wife, Lisa Jeffries was also crying ,but not for the same reason..
