Just in Case You Need Me

 We all sat in the waiting area once again....Today was the day the jury would decide in our civil case if what our client..Melinda Jost, a popular Television Anchor said was true , she was indeed sexually assaulted in a Lingerie changing room and whether she indeed deserved financial compensation... 

"Yvette, even if we lose today....It will have taught him a lesson ...That he just can't go around forcing himself on people and it not have repercussions...I'm satisfied with the job you guys did...At least I was heard in court...At least my story got told...So many people's, so many women's stories never get told." said Melinda.

"I think we got to that jury from what I could read in their faces..Tommy Dylan tried to do a hack job, tried to attack your charactor...but I don't think that swayed this jury....I think they saw through that."said Ms. Yvette.

"I agree with Ms. Yvette...I think they saw through that." I said.

Bee Bee and Sofia walked out of the courtroom....

"Judge Thornton is angry....We are thirty minutes late because Jason Lockjoy hasn't shown up yet....He was told to be here at 9:00 AM sharp..It's 9:34...." said Bee Bee.

"He Told Tommy Dylan that if he isn't here by 10:00 AM...He's starting without him.."said Sofia.

Kahlil and Jade returned with coffee's.

''Hey Guys...Coffees for everyone..." said Kahlil..

"I take it Jason hasn't shown up yet huh?" said Ms. Jade..

As they passed Tumblers of hot steaming  coffees to each one of us...

"Thank You Ms. Jade.. I need this." said Bee Bee, taking the coffee... Sofia and I were just in the courtroom..Judge Thornton is angry....We are thirty minutes late because Jason Lockjoy hasn't shown up yet....He was told to be here at 9:00 AM sharp..It's 9:34....9:40 now." said Bee Bee.

"He Told Tommy Dylan that if he isn't here by 10:00 AM...He's starting without him.."said Sofia.

"Probably had a hot date." said Kahlil, matter of factly....

I busted out laughing....

So surprisingly did Melinda Jost....

Ms. Yvette smiled , but she was worried...I could look at her and tell.

Attorney Thomas Dylan was worried..

He checked his watch.......

Then for the third time this morning, he called his client......The phone rang until it went to voice mail....

Ms. Yvette's husband, Gary Lockwood, An Investigator for the District Attorney's Office walked up...

"Hey Baby!" he said.

"GARY!!!! Gary? What are you doing here?" asked Ms. Yvette incredulously...

"You were on my mind this morning....I know you guys have been involved in much more serious cases, but something about this case just bothered me...So I decided to come for uh er ruh moral support, just in case you needed me." he said.

"Just in case I need you huh? AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW You are so sweeet!." Ms. Yvette said smiling..

They kissed passionately......

She looked at her watch..it was 9:49...

She took Gary by the hand and led him into the Judges Chambers...They were empty...

They kissed passionately, devouring each other's lips...

"UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM VETTIE GIRL, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!" moaned Gary..

"I know you do...I know you do and I LOVE YOU TOO! MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER KNOW!" she said in between more hot kisses..

Gary opened her blouse...The kissing got hotter......

"OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GODDDDD!" he moaned..

And then he stopped....He straightened up Yvette's clothes....

Yvette applied lipstick, fixed her hair...

She smiled at her husband...

"Thank you so much for coming....I do need you..." she said..

They opened the door and walked out..

"We are starting Ms. Yvette, The Bailiff just brought the Jury in..."said Bee Bee.

"Is Jason Here?" asked Ms. Yvette..

"No...Judge Thornton said we are going on with the reading of the verdict without him." said Bee Bee.

II-

We All gathered in the courtroom....The Jury of six people, Three Women, One Black and Two white and Three Men, One Latino, One Black and One White were seated...

Judge Tad Thornton, usually an easy going guy was clearly livid...

"Your Honor I am very sorry...I told Mr. Lockjoy to be here at 8:30...I told him that at Dinner last night...I don't know why he isn't here...I have called him five or six times..His phone has gone straight to voicemail.

"Well as his attorney, you can tell him that regardless of the verdict I am going to hold him in contempt of court..A Few days in the cooler will straighten him out!!" said Judge Thornton, who had never sentenced anybody to the "Cooler",

 the nickname for the holding cells upstairs from the courtroom..

We all stood up for the reading of the verdict....

Ms. Yvette's face betrayed no emotion...

Melinda held her hand.....

She held one of my hands....

Bee Bee held the other...

Sofia and Kahlil held each other...

Ms. Jade stood stoically...

Attorney Thomas Dylan continued to look at his watch...

"Has the Jury reached a decision?" asked Judge Thornton..

"We have your honor..."said the Jury forewoman, A Latina.

They passed their verdict to the Judge who read it and quickly passed it to the Bailiff.

"Read it." said Judge Thornton.

"WE THE JURY IN THE CASE OF MELINDA JOST VS. JASON LOCKJOY DO SIDE WITH THE PLAINTIFF, MS. MELINDA JOST AND AWARD HER THE SUM OF 2.5 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!" they said.

"WE WON!!! WE WON!!! THAT COWARD KNEW WHAT WAS COMING! THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T SHOW UP!!! WE WONNN!" screamed a jubilant Melinda Jost.

"YES WE DID!"said Ms. Yvette who thought the verdict might go either way...

"OHHHHHH SOFIA, BEE BEE THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!" said Melinda.

"You are so welcome...We are so happy for you girl..."said Sofia.

"We are sooooo happy for you....He is going to pay and pay dearly for assaulting you....And he still has criminal charges to face don't forget."said Bee Bee..

"Kahlil, Keith...Thank you guys sooooo much!"said Melinda.

"Oh you're welcome...All on a days work. Or Two days work."said Kahlil.

"You sent him a message today....And he still has criminal charges to face don't forget."I said.

"I just wish he was here, so I could see his cocky little face when the verdict was read.."said Melinda.

Jade smiled.. "Me too!" In the back of her mind, something seemed very wrong about Jason Lockjoy's no show...but she couldn't pin point it.

His Attorney Tommy Dylan was livid...He called him and left this message.

"I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW ASSHOLE, BUT WE LOST....YOU LOST A PILE OF MONEY TO THE TUNE OF 2.5 MILLION AND THE JUDGE HERE WANTS TO LOCK YOU UP FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT....SO GET UP OUT OF WHATEVER BIMBO IS SHARING YOUR BED ,GET CLEANED UP AND GET TO MY OFFICE....WE HAVE TO WORK ON AN APPEAL BEFORE YOUR CRIMINAL CASE BEGINS!"

"LOOK AT MY LITTLE WINNER!" he laughed..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" she cooed.. "THANK YOU MY GOOD LUCK CHARM! You were there when I needed You....I love you so much..." she laughed...

Kissing him passionately.......

But this happy little celebration was just the calm before another storm brewing...

None of us knew that at the time..We were just enjoying the moment...

Tonight , A Number of us had the same idea...We all came out for Ice Cream, Banana Splits, Milk Shakes and Pizza...For once we didn't need Olivia's Buses...We drove out in our cars...It wasn't even planned...We just happened to run into everybody at food corner, which was blocks from where we now lived and closer to where we used to live..

''Well Hail the conquering heroes..."said Dabnis..

"Yessssssss we heard you guys did your thing in court today...Won your client a cool 2.5 million dollars..."said Jazzy...

''Civil Cases are nice when you win them.."said Kayla.

"Yeah, when you win them, Congratulations guys..."said Ray..

"Thanks...Ole Lockjoy didn't even show up for the reading...I think he knew we had a good chance of winning this." I said.

"I don't know...He walked out of court yesterday with that same smirk on his face...Like he thought he had won."said Bee Bee.

''So why didn't he show up? You think he was sick or something?" said Sofia.

"I think he met some chick and was in bed still this morning." said Kahlil.

''Well I hope it was worth it...Judges don't like it when you don't show up...He's facing Contempt of Court charges ,plus he's got a criminal case coming up...Losing that civil case is going to weigh heavily on his chances in the criminal case." said Jessica.

"I'd hate to be him right now..."said Chip.

"I'd hate to be his lawyer right now...Having lost the civil case and facing a criminal case on the same charges..."said Natalie..

"He might be considering parting ways with that Lawyer.."said David Charles..

"I know his lawyer, Thomas Dylan...He's good..A Heavy Hitter....I wouldn't part with him right now...He needs him.....I wonder who the Assistant District Attorney is?" asked Brooke..

''Who cares? You guys are done with it right?" asked Sean.

''Yeah we are done..." said Bee Bee.

"Melinda has another attorney representing her in the criminal case...She's coming down tomorrow to meet with us and compare notes" I said.

"Yeah we expect to get a good night's sleep tonight.." said Sofia..

''Well Some of us....I don't plan to be sleeping right away..." Kahlil whispered into Sofia's ear raffishly..

"Ouuuuuuu Papiiii!" Sofia whispered, giggling...

 

Nightfall...It had been quite a day... We were all in a celebratory mode...

We were all at home...

Bee Bee was wearing a sheer see through Baby doll.....She had just taken a hot shower and walked into our bedroom..

At Jason Lockjoy's Loft....His Body is finally discovered....

"From the smell and from rigor setting in...I'd say he died a day ago...I'd estimate his time of death at around 5:30 AM  Tuesday Morning....It's now 11:00 PM...Wednesday Night."said One of the crime scene investigators...

"He took six bullets center mast to the chest from what looks like a 22 caliber...Someone rang his doorbell and shot him as soon as he opened the door...Judging by the way his body is situated... He fell backwards and landed right here...Whoever the killer was, simply walked away....There is no sign they entered his dwelling any further."said Dr. Hazel Baylor..

"You know who this is don't you?  This is Super Stock Broker and Man About Town, Jason Lockjoy....

He lost a judgement today in that civil sexual assault trial...He was ordered by a jury to pay that woman 2.5 million dollars...He wasn't in court to hear the verdict." said Dr. Marcy Martin.

"He wouldn't have been, he was dead before the court procedure started."said Hazel..

Much to her chagrin.Lt. Arthur Tragg walked up on them...He had on Latex gloves....He bent down and looked at the body...

"Stock Broker Jason Lockjoy eh?   He lost a pile of money in that Civil Case,,,,He banged that TV Anchor Broad in the changing room of the lingerie store..She won a pile of money in that judgement...Poor slob wasn't even there to hear it....It doesn't matter now......It looks like he took six bullets center mast to the chest from what looks like a 22 caliber...Someone rang his doorbell and shot him as soon as he opened the door...Judging by the way his body is situated... Hazel and Marcy were stunned...He actually sounded like a detective this time...They said nothing to antagonize him...

''Alright wrap him up and get him out of here...Phewwwww this place smells like hell...Girls get me the autopsy report ASAP." he said as he strutted out... No Press was around...He wasn't putting on a show for once..

The men put the body in a white body bag and strapped him to a gurney and rolled him down the hall...

And out into the street where a small crowd had gathered...

As the new day dawned.....

Ms. Yvette was up, staring out the window into the street...

Her husband Gary woke up and walked behind her....He put his arms around her waist and hugged her...

"Couldn't Sleep?" he asked.

" Nah....So I was just staring out the window.."she said.

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm can I look with you?" he moaned , squeezing her..

" Sure you can......Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, you feel sooo good!" she said.

"So do youuuuu!" he said, squeezing her tight and kissing her earlobe....
