Over The Moon

Beverly and I visited Robbie's Bakery....Their Industrial kitchen...we talked to all of the employee and all of the cooks and bakers who worked on the day Kelly Barnes died..

We spoke to all but one of the cooks who made up the batter in the Everything But the Kitchen Sink Cookie.

I collected copies of all of the menus....None of the menus called for Walnuts to be included in the cookie. 

"Donnie Ray, the one cook who is not here, no longer works here..we've got to find him." said Beverly.

"Yes, somebody put these walnuts in....Nobody we've talked to says they included walnuts in the mix....was anyone else here?" I asked.

"That lawyer, Gennifer Lee was here the whole time...she picked up the final batch of cookies." said one worker.

At our Office/Duplex-

Josie, Olivia and Bresha were busy doing research, of laws, predicates, laws pertaining to this type of case.... as well as the business case we had just finished which got Robert's business returned to him...

We had still heard nothing from Gennifer Lee about the 3.5 million dollars we had asked for..

"I think we need to call Gennifer Lee , who I believe is the acting CEO and remind her about the money she owes us."said Josie.

"Yes and remind her that she is still liable for a lawsuit if she doesn't comply.." said Olivia, who was taking Beverly's place this morning.

"I've got the papers written up right here for the lawsuit Liv."said Bresha.

Olivia spent the rest of the morning in the media room with Nelson, looking at the juror pool and the breakdowns on them that I had done and picking the type of jurors they would want for the jury...

''We may not get all 12 depending on how good the ADA is..but if we can get six or seven of these jurors..We are in the winners circle."said Olivia.

"I noticed that unmarked police car is gone." said Nelson..

''Well, everybody in the neighborhood knew they were there...Your wife even took coffee out to them..They lost their effectiveness, their edge." joked Olivia.

She and Nelson busted out laughing.

In our conference room Zelda sat at the table with her laptop...tending to company business..

while her husband, Robert, sipped coffee..

"I see that undercover cop car is gone and my neighbor told me that the one they had outside my house is gone too!" he said.

"Yeah, I suppose they got tired of sittin for hours and seeing nothin."laughed Alfreda.

HOURS BEFORE-

"You called for me Cap?" asked Lt. Tragg..

"The Deputy of Operations called me this morning...He wanted to know why we had two plain clothes men assigned to the house of Robert Bennett?  He's been released on bail pending trial...he has an ankle monitor on him so that the court knows where he is 24/7....So Far, he's been with his attorneys around the clock...and also..why do you have his attorneys under surveillance? That borders on harrassment.He ordered me to pull those men, who are needed by other units and those cars as well....From now on  if you want to use anymore plain clothes detectives and units, you are to run it through him first he said." said Captain Eddie Cantrell..

Lt. Tragg left the office furious....

Today was a nice day...So we all went to the new sandwich shoppe that had opened up a few blocks from us..

We treated ourselves to some of their fine sandwiches..

"Ummmmm Liv these sandwiches are delicious....Love them..." said Robbie.

"This place just opened up a few months ago..."said Olivia.

"These sandwiches are delish...I'm going to get their card ,find out if they deliver." said Zelda.

"They do deliver Aunt Zelda." said Beverly...

"These are some delicious sandwiches.." I agreed.

"They delivered to my house over the weekend.. Me and Tony sat up and watched movies and munched on these."said Bresha.

"Yeah, me and Bev have ordered these too! They're great on a rainy weekend when you're cooling out around the house..just the two of you."said Nelson..

"Yeah they really are." said Josie.

"I think me and Rockland will try that." said Alfreda.

At Curley's Bar

Lt. Tragg and Attorney Gennifer Lee were getting pretty cozy, talking well into the night...

After work, we all loaded up on the two buses and headed to Cherry Hill to a soul food restaurant and bar we all liked called "CORNBREAD EARL's...Olivia and Beverly had contacted the Judge and explained Uncle Robbie's current living situation and gotten permission for him to travel with us to dinner tonight... Since he was with his attorneys of note, she extended the curfew to 2:00 AM, tonight only. It was Aunt Zelda's Birthday..

"This is a really nice place..We have to come here again baby!  Thank you Olivia and Beverly for everything you've done."said Zelda.

"Yeah, thank you for hooking this up....You guys are magic...I keep telling everybody that."said Uncle Robbie...

There was a Birthday Cake that we brought with us.. It was Aunt Zelda's Birthday!

"We like this place...I think we all came here about two years ago.."said Olivia.

''Well not all of us...Our new friends didn't..but you're right most of us did." I said.

''Auntay...it was nice of them to reserve this entire floor for our party..." said Beverly..

"It's like 33 of us now...I guess they would have had to or we would have had to show up when their doors opened." said Nelson.

"You guys are big timers now ...."said Robbie, amazed that every one of Olivia and Beverly's neighbors were lawyers or had some connection to the legal system...

'The Food here is off the chain if I recall." said Josie.

"Yeah, I remember, it is..." said Paris.

"This is my third time here...Tony brought me here on a date when we were courting...and he worked out this way...Then I cam back with you guys during the mock trials...I loved it.."said Bresha, who along with her husband, Tony first told her about this place.

"Yeah, we should come over here more often...They have a great mall and nice restaurants and stuff." said Tony...

'You're right Tony."said Alfreda...

"Indeed."said her husband, Rockland...

"It's nice to be out of the city for a minute."said Zelda..

"You mean nice to be out of hiding..."laughed her husband, Robbie..

"Maybe tomorrow, we drop by after brunch and play Spades..." said Jazzy...

Gennifer immediately noticed Olivia, Beverly, Nelson, Josie and Bresha, but mostly Uncle Robbie, He was here with this huge group of people...Obviously in violation of  his bond agreement.. She had also been served with papers regarding a pending lawsuit in which we intended to ask for 4.5 million dollars from the company she now controlled. She hardly made eye contact...

The Big surprise though was that Lt. Tragg walked in..

He wasn't trailing us...He had put one of his trackers on Gennifer Lee's car and tracked her and her date here...She hadn't answered his 99 calls to her cell phone, 

but when he saw us he went ballistic..

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOING HERE AND WITH HIM??? HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO LEAVE PHILADELPHIA.....ROBERT BENNETT I'M PLACING YOU UNDER ARREST!" he bellowed.

"That Philly Badge don't mean jack here...We are in South Jersey." said Uncle Robbie, jumping up and preparing for battle..

''Don't get your panties in a bunch Lieutenant...It's all very legal...We got written permission from the Judge to bring him to this restaurant to celebrate his wife's birthday...Which is why we all are here.."said Olivia.

Nelson brought the papers just in case there was any trouble..Though we hadn't expected to see Lt. Tragg. He showed him the papers..

"It's all perfectly legal...He is with his attorneys...He has permission to be here and his curfew is extended until 2:00 am, in which we will be long gone." said Nelson..

He read the papers. He figured Olivia wouldn't openly break the law.

"So why don't you be long gone, huh?" said Beverly.

To Her Surprise, He did just that!  He walked away and then he walked over to why he was here in the first place... He grabbed Gennifer Lee's arm.

"HEY WHY DIDN'T YOU ANSWER YOUR PHONE MOST OF THE DAY?...I CALLED YOU NEARLY ONE HUNDRED TIMES" he bellowed.

"Then you should have gotten the message...I didn't wish to be bothered.. I'm an attorney...I'm busy, I'm in court...I'm in intense negotiations and Litigations. We had a nice night, got drunk...We got laid!!!!.What more do you want? Now leave me alone." she said coldly

''You heard what the lady said...Now beat it."said the young man she was with, Dan Stevenson, like us an area Attorney.

"If I were you buddy I'd button my lip, before I button it for you." said Lt. Tragg..

"Oh is that right?" said the young man...

"YEAH THAT'S RIGHT NOW BACK OFF!" snarled Lt. Tragg..

"Oh No, Not here, Not tonight..."said Olivia.

"Godddd, can't we go anywhere without him showing up and ruining our night?" asked Yvette.

"YOU HAD BETTER TURN AROUND AND GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE...I HAVEN'T PRACTICED LAW ALL MY LIFE....I WAS A GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPION." said Dan..

"AM I SUPPOSED TO BE IMPRESSED BY THAT?? YOU KNOW!!! I'VE HAD ABOUT AS MUCH OF YOU AS I CARE TO TAKE BUDDY!" said Lt. Tragg....

We heard the loud voices being raised from where we were sitting..

A Punch was thrown!!...We didn't know who threw the first punch..But Gennifer's date...fired off  10 lefts and 10 rights to Lt. Tragg's face...sending him spinning around like  a top....Now the other patrons were engaged...watching Lt. Tragg getting pummelled...once again...Everyone at our tables were either howling with laughter or astounded...

He cracked Dan in the jaw and then landed 5 lefts and 5 rights to Dan's face, forcing him backward...but Dan hit him hard in his stomach!

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUF!" groaned Lt. Tragg, who  staggered, then swung two haymakers, missing with both.. and stumbling off guard...He swung again and had his punch blocked...He tried to throw another punch, but missed again and Gennifer's date cracked him hard in his jaw, spinning him around again and then landed 18 lefts and 18 right body shots to his torso..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUF!" he moaned in pain himself.. blood spewing from his nose, his lip swollen and his eyes swollen also..He folded over in pain and hit the floor again....

He groaned as he got to his feet...breathing heavily and embarrassed at the way he was being beaten like a drum in front of everyone..especially Gennifer Lee..

He cracked Dan in the jaw and then landed 5 lefts and 5 rights to Dan's face, forcing him backward.....

Dan hit him with 17 lefts and 17 rights to his face..  and then one well placed left  right combonation that sent Lt. Tragg flying into a table, knocking the table and chairs over...and landing flat on his face on the floor again. He was down for the count!!!

The other patrons gasped...Some laughed. A lot laughed and clapped and whistled.

The New Jersey State Police Showed up and arrested Lt. Tragg , just as he was coming to....

"Yeah we know this guy...He's a cop from Philly, didn't we bust him last year for peeping into some ladies bedroom?" said one cop..

"Yeah, he's the one...What a degenerate!"said the other as they walked out of the restaurant with a barely conscious Lt. Tragg....both of his eyes were black and  swollen shut..His cheeks were swollen and purple..his lips were swollen the size of a tire.. Both arms were torn off on his suit jacket which had a split in the back...His hair was a mess...and his nose was bleeding profusely...

One cop said. "According to what one of the patrons said..They were fighting over a girl..Neither the girl nor the other guy is here." he said.

"Not your night huh Lieutenant?" said the other cop, laughing as they put him in the backseat of the police car and drove off!

Lt. Tragg was embarrassed at being beat up in front of us and Gennifer Lee, Heartbroken that she was callously out with another guy not 24 hours after they had hooked up and livid that these New Jersey State Troopers were arresting him for brawling in public.

We finished our delicious meals and packed everyone up on the buses and headed home...It was a little after midnight...We had been here a total of six hours...We were honoring Uncle Robbie's curfew/

 

"Olivia, Donnie Ray, Beverly, Nelson, Thank you for arranging this...This was one of the nicest birthday celebrations I've ever had, despite that brawl..."said Aunt Zelda.

"I knew that damn Gennifer had gotten to him..They did the Hibbity Bibbity and he was obviously sprung...He said he called her 99 times and she didn't answer..Now what kind of woman does that?" said Uncle Robbie.

"I don't know, Men ghost women all the time ."said Olivia,smiling.

"None of you Bennett women get ghosted.." I said ,laughing..

"Of course not..We are too damn hot...."laughed Beverly...

Nelson hugged her and kissed her on the cheek.. "I can't argue that." he said.

They began kissing passionately...

Both Olivia and Beverly were super hot and from photos I had seen of both of them when they were younger, they had always been hot!

"I didn't know Dan could rumble like that." said Tony,laughing.

"He and Gennifer were smart to go downstairs and away from Lt. Tragg, once he clocked him..."said Bresha.

"He is so damn obnoxious...He brings it out in people."said Josie..

''Yes He does.."agreed her husband, Paris.

''That toad...He is such a pain in the ass..I had no idea he was going to show up here tonight..He just follows us everywhere. Well, he got a good whipping tonight."said Alfreda, disgusted.

"Yes he did but uh He wasn't here for us dear...He followed that girl here...He had no idea we were here." said Rockland."I'm just glad Nelson had those papers on him..." he added.

"Well we had dinner and entertainment tonight huh?"laughed Yvette.

''All that action has made me horny." said Gary..

"Well we had a great meal and great entertainment." said Keith Jones.

"As pissed as the Deputy of Operations is with Lieutenant Tragg at any given moment..He could wind up staying out here for at least a week without a peep from the Philly P.D."said Danny Ho.

Jade was still laughing hysterically...

''Why does he have to be so damn obnoxious and ruin every event we go to/" asked an angry Virginia.

'''He's not at everything.. Who knew  that little white gal he was so torn up over has a taste for soul food?"laughed her husband, Jetty.

''What a night...The food was great and I love that place." said Kayla.

"Yeah , all things not withstanding...it was a great night." said Ray.

"It really was...We were eating and drinking a good THREE HOURS before Lt. Tragg even showed up."said Jazzy.

"If that girl and her date hadn't come there..We wouldn't have seen him at all." said Dabnis.

"I really enjoyed myself papi." said Jessica.

"And I hope to enjoy myself even more tonight when we get home.." Chip whispered in her ear..

They began kissing passionately...

COURTROOM D- THREE DAYS LATER!

We had served the Kelly Barnes Baking company with a lawsuit and were in court for the civil trial

We spent the next week in court, involved in a lawsuit in which we asked for 4,5 million dollars in renumeration for the almost leveraged buyout of Uncle Robbie's company by the late Kelly Barnes..

Gennifer Lee was a very good attorney and very slick..as well as ruthless...She tried to argue that everything she and her late partner had done was above board and that the late Ms. Barnes relented only after being intimidated by Mr. Bennett's nieces and their entire law firm...

She was assisted by the young attorney, Dan Stevenson who had thrashed Lt. Tragg at the Soul food restaurant in South Jersey over the past weekend..Not a hair was out of place...You couldn't tell he had been fighting.

Lt. Tragg was still in prison in South Jersey.....

Led by Olivia, Beverly, Josie, Bresha and Nelson, they went through the contract and business history Kelly Barnes had with Robert Morgan's company line by line and dissected the agreement piece by piece pointing out irregularities and downright illegal business practices that the layman would miss or not understand...Which is why she was never challenged. People were intimidated by her Ivy leauge Attorney and just caved...

TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER-

With Judge Pringle presiding... A 6 man jury sided with Uncle Robbie and awarded him 3.5 million dollars....What we had asked for originally.... Had she of negotiated with us...We were prepared to take as little as 1.5 million...Now we got 3.5 million, which is what we originally wanted.

Gennifer now remembered Beverly and Josie's warning a few weeks ago...

"Ohhhhhh you'll pay or we'll take this to the Better Business Bureau and expose what you've done with those other companies.... It'll cost you a whole lot more in the long run." said Beverly...

''Don't think too long. If we don't have an answer in 24 hours, expect a law suit....Then it'll be out of your hands."said Josie..

Gennifer Lee had been arrogant and it had cost her...Kelly Barnes was probably turning over in her grave..Not that she cared.

Uncle Robbie was over the moon. He had control over his company again and had 3.5 million dollars infusion of new tax free cash to keep it going..

"Olivia, Beverly, you guys are the best....If I hadn't of stood up, That Harpie would have my company..Thank God I'm related to you too...You'll be getting my check for your services soon." he said.

''Well that's always nice and refreshing..." said Olivia..

''Now we've got to help you beat these murder charges...The preliminary hearing is next week."said Beverly...

When it rains it pours....

Mikal Perkeon heard what Robert Bennett had done and he got himself some lawyers, He went to McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt and he got Yvette Jones-Lockwood, Keith Jones, Beatrice Evan-Jones, Sofia Garcia -Ahmed and Jade Lee-Ho..

Yvette and her crew  used the exact same playbook that Olivia and Beverly used....They went through the contract and business history Kelly Barnes had with Robert Morgan's companyand Mikal Perkeon's company line by line and dissected the agreement piece by piece pointing out irregularities and downright illegal business practices that the layman would miss or not understand...Which is why she was never challenged. People were intimidated by her Ivy leauge Attorney and just caved...Now two of the three businessmen had gotten legal representation of their own and turned the tides.

 A 6 man jury sided with Mikal Perkeon and awarded him 3.5 million dollars also.

Mikal Perkeon was over the moon....both he and Robert Bennett had gotten their companies back and some cash on top of that...

Richard Huff got himself two attorneys...Jasmine Coley and Kayla Bennett-st. Jacques...Two cut -throat negotiators and litigators..

Aided by their husbands, Dabnis Coley and Ray St. Jacques and Attorney Tony Billips, with Paris Boyd, Para -legal..

They met with Attorneys Gennifer Lee and Attorney Dan Stevenson to negotiate in a downtown conference room...They wanted to avoid another disastrous lawsuit and courtroom trial

They wound up giving Richard Huff complete control of his company and 2.5 million in cash...Since He had no idea what the other two men got back it wasn't a bone of contention....No one would be reporting the Barnes Company to the Better Business Bureau and Gennifer Lee would not be censured or reported to the legal ethics board...

It was a narrow escape for her.. A Very narrow escape.

She was glad to be done with this whole power grab..It was a complete disastor that caused the company to lose more in the end than it gained...

Kelly Barnes was indeed spinning in her grave.....She hadn 't expected to be challenged...Had it not been for Robert Bennett, she wouldn't have been challenged. The last thing she had wanted before she died was for this to get out and the other two men get lawyers and sue them...She had wanted to keep what Robert Bennett had done quiet.

And just when Gennifer thought her troubles were over..

Bresha Billips, one of the attorneys who represented Robert Bennett walked up to her smiling..

And presented her with a subpoena...To appear as a hostile witness in Robert Bennett's murder trial next week..

It had been a hell of a week.

It had been a hell of a week for Lt. Tragg too....He had spent 7 days in a South Jersey jail for brawling at that soul food restaurant.... Charges were dropped and he was released....

He had heard the news....Olivia and Beverly had been successful in getting their Uncle Robbie's company back and winning a huge settlement... The other two men had gotten lawyers, all lawyers that he knew and had gotten their businesses back and huge financial settlements as well..

He laughed... It served that flaky lawyer, Gennifer Lee right...She had had her sweet little ass handed to her in court...

It had been a good week... The Youngins, Beverly, Nelson, Josie, Paris, Bresha, Tony, Keith, Bee Bee, Sofia, Kahlil,Jazzy, Dabnis, Kayla and Ray and Jessica and Chip were letting off some steam at Aqua Bar, dancing the night away...
