Diversification

 48 HOURS LATER-

We sat in the conference room of our headquarters discussing the case...

"Hazel did great work, the DNA and prints on that air tank match this Caleb Gunstein person...."said Carlotta.

"And we pulled his prints off that Air Tank and the tape on the line on the Air conditioning system on the roof..."said Tyriq..

"We pulled his DNA and prints off of at least two of the Laptops to boost, proving he was in their apartment after they died wiping down the hard drives.."said Jimmy..

"He was smart...He disabled all of the street cams  in that area, but we caught him on the Business and ATM cams across the street.."said Sirena..

"Not only that...I caught his car on a traffic cam....outside of the perimeter..It was a rental, but I got an address.."said Hop...

"Outstanding...He's our killer....Keith can you get a warrant for his arrest and get the Judge to keep it from going public?" asked Sissy.

"I can ask for that favor, but the judge can only keep it out of the public cue for 24 hours..We'd better grab him quick.." I said.

"That laptop revealed a lot of information we already had...but the emails , The emails took us in another direction."said Angie..

On our monitors came the face of a bald headed white man with sunglasses on..

"This cool guy is Johnny Gillespie..."said Tyriq..

"He is an Atlantic City Real Estate Developer...He's also known to be a big time gambler...He has a few wire rooms in Philly, Camden and AC...and is said to have some juice on the streets(Loan sharking)..."he continued..

"He also deals rather heavily in Blackmail..."said Sirena..

"Me ,My partner, Duke and Carlotta looked into their finances and we interviewed several people close to him..

looked into their financials and talked to their friends and associates...They were all known hackers and known gamblers...They were into Gillespie for thousands...He owned them and they did his bidding..."said Hop..

"When he decided to diversify and get into the drug business...They knew the companies who had the most vulnerable software....They hit em with the ransomware and they had no choice but to do his bidding...Over a period of a year he took in millions....It's in his finances..Which he shifts around from one dummy account to another.,"said Jimmy..

"Okay, so he's the boss...the string puller...and Caleb is his enforcer...but they had no way of knowing we were investigating them, the whole thing was top secret....If they had known, they could have shut it down long before we got the indictments..and changed up."said Sissy..

"Can I say it Sirena? This is where it gets cute....They didn't have a clue we were on to them or how deep we were into them until the warrants came out...We had to wait at least 24 hours before we got those warrants....Somebody saw em and somebody alerted Gillespie..."said Sharon..

"He had his money.....So he gives the order..Shut it down...Wipe out the hard drives on the laptops and shut them down...."said Tyriq..

"And just like that....They're all dead...Nice and clean..Without a clue or trace or so he thought.."said Carlotta...

Sharon dropped a file on the desk..

"This was in my doorway at my house ...Whoever left it ,left it late last night..Files on Johnny Gillespie and Caleb Gunstein....and better than that...Known addresses...This file is so thorough that only an insider could have sent it..I had it dusted for prints, DNA...There was none..."said Sharon..

"Okay, first things first...Let's pick up Caleb quietly...Like we did Henry..."said Sissy..."We'll leave Johnny G. alone, let him think he's safe...With any luck, we'll flip Caleb and he'll give us Johnny Gillespie on a platter.."said Sissy..

Duke was the only one not in our meeting...He had earned a well deserved break..He and Hazel were upstairs in one of the rooms...

While floors below us.. We were preparing to arrest Caleb Gunstein...We had warrants on him for twelve counts of First Degree Murder...and enough evidence to make it stick in court...Including an artists drawing of him...Henry Holcolmb didn't know his name, but he described him enough for a police sketch artist to know who he was...It matched our mug shots that had been sent to us from INTERPOL..and Scotland Yard...

We had an address...

Carlotta, Sirena and Hop positioned themselves outside of his apartment in a car with tinted windows...watching and looking for any signs of him..

Jimmy, Tyriq and Angie went to get back up...Some Tactical Squad boys...They were on their way...

Caleb  Gunstein and three men exited the apartment...They were headed toward a SUV...

"That's them!  We can't wait for back up and we can't let him get away..."said Carlotta, who pulled her pistol and exited the car...

"CALEB GUNSTEIN!!!  PUT YOUR HANDS UP!  I'M WITH THE POLICE...YOU'RE UNDER ARREST! "said Carlotta...

Two of the men, armed with Uzi's turned toward Carlotta...

"LOTTA! GUN!" screamed Sirena who dove and knocked Carlotta out of harms way...

Automatic  gunfire erupted...bullets just whizzing by them as they crawled for cover...

Carlotta pulled her glock, squatted down behind a car and began firing at both gunmen and yelling,

"Sirena, Hop ,get on the phone, call for back up immediately.."she barked..

 "I'm not leaving you Lotta!!!!" screamed Sirena, who squatted down behind another car and pulled out her glock and began shooting at the two men...

 Bystanders ran and took cover, people screamed....A furious fire fight was in process....The battle between Carlotta, Sirena and the two gunmen raged on at full blast...A third man ,already in the SUV, got out of the car...He aimed a gun at both women...

Hop pulled his glock and fired several rounds at him...He ducked...He returned fire...Hop returned fire and forced him to retreat behind the SUV......Caleb dove to the ground and crawled under a car..

Hop   took cover and then pulled out his glock again...He fired one shot...All he needed!..He hit the first man (who was firing at Carlotta and Sirena) with the Uzi right between the eyes...The bullet exited out the back of his head and he fell dead to the ground...

Carlotta and Sirena turned and lit the other man up, hitting him multiple times....He too fell dead!...  Once again the third man , the  driver  of the SUV pulled out a pistol and aimed at Carlotta and Sirena , who saw him and ducked...

This time ,Sirena, Carlotta and Hop returned fire, killing him instantly!!!!....

 A fourth man exited the apartment building with a riot pump shotgun,blasting away.....but it was too late..

 Tyriq  arrived ..He pulled his glock and fired at the man, trying to draw the fire away from Sirena ,Carlotta and Hop , who were on the move, around the other side of the cars...The man then fired at Tyriq, who ducked behind a parked Truck and returned fire, forcing him to back up into the doorway..

 Jimmy and a squad of tactical squad policemen opened up on the man toting the riot pump shotgun.....hitting him multiple times.. He tossed the shotgun up in the air, spun around and toppled over into the street...Dead as a doorknob!!!

Four men lie dead...Blood running like a river all over the street, broken glass everywhere..

Caleb crawled from under the car ,He was trying to load his pistol..Only to see Angie's glock at his head..

"Twitch and I'll blow your damn brains out..Drop that gun...DO IT NOW!!!"said Angie...who he didn't see running up...until it was too late...

He did as he was told...He  got up slowly and was handcuffed, by Angie  and read his rights and charged with 12 counts of First degree murder..

Tyriq hugged his wife and his partner....

"Can't take you two out anywhere..Can I ?" he said, smiling and with tears welling up in his eyes..He deeply loved them both!

 ''We tried to be good girls, Didn't we Lotta?" said Sirena

"We did, honest Rico."said Carlotta,smiling and glad to be alive...

Hop walked over to Rico...

"You guys got here in the nick of time...They were coming out of here just as we arrived.."he said...

''At least we got our suspect...ALIVE!!!"said Jimmy..

The four dead men were all gun men for hire from New Jersey.....All had long criminal records...

Sissy was ecstatic...

Because of the gun battle, We had to announce to the press that we had captured the man who killed 12 people in the apartment complex the week before...It was all over the news...

There was one person who wasn't pleased..

Lieutenant Tragg...He stood on the sidelines as red as a beet...Stomping his foot...He believed we had a "who done it"  Detectives slang for an impossible case to solve...  And in little over a week and a half , We had our killer in custody....

He no longer had anything to hold over Sissy's head....He could no longer say  "12 OPEN MURDERS", the way he had been loudly proclaiming for all who would listen...

Sissy couldn't resist a chance to get a dig in....As we left the Press conference she said ..

"TWELVE CLEARENCES LIEUTENANT!" she said.

He stomped his foot and walked off...

I laughed..

"You like pushing his buttons don't you?" I said..

"It's become the joy of my life."said Sissy..

Back at headquarters...

Carlotta hugged Sirena..

"You saved my life...You are my sister..."said Carlotta..

"You're my sister too Lotta, The sister I never had...Godmother of my children and my husband's partner...It was second nature..."said Sirena...

Duke was up by now..

Sharon had brought him

and Hazel up to speed on the case..

 "Nice, we got our man..."said Duke..."I heard you guys had a real wing ding.."said Duke..smiling and looking at his prize students...Carlotta, Sirena and Hop..

and smiling like a proud papa...

"Yeah,but me and Rico came in and did some clean up.."said Jimmy...

Tyriq looked at Angie and smiled..

"For a pretty girl, you're a pretty tough cop....Your partner made the collar Duke.."said Tyriq,hugging Angie..

Angie smiled...

"You sound like you're surprised Rico.."laughed Duke..

Sissy and I walked in just then...

 "Caleb won't talk...Won't say a word..Hasn't even asked for a lawyer.."said Sissy..

 "Doesn't matter...We have enough evidence on him alone to make him swing from the gallows..."I said..

"But we want Johnny Gillespie...The man who makes the dirt happen..."said Sharon....

 In a neighborhood bar, Johnny Gillespie is very angry...

"YOU THINK THIS IS A JOKE? YOU THINK I'M SOME KIND OF JACK OFF? ONE CALL, ONE CALL AND YOUR FATHER IS A DEAD MAN  OR BETTER,I CAN HAVE HIS LEGS BROKEN, ONE AT A TIME!!!!" he screamed..

"Can you really?  Those Philly coppers captured your enforcer and they killed all of your muscle.."said Carla..

Johnny was beet red....He knew she was right....

"It doesn't take much to hire muscle..I can replace those guys just like that!" he bellowed..

 "I know you can Johnny....but do you have days?  If Caleb gives you up..You're toast.."said Carla.

"He won't....You were supposed to keep me abreast of this!" he retorted.

"I never saw the warrants...They must have held on to them until he was in custody..."said Carla..Who wouldn't have told him this if she had of seen the warrants...She was done with him now...She secretly hoped the cops put the cuffs on him and soon..

"If I go down...YOU GO DOWN! Remember that sugar britches...." said Johnny...

 "I'll take my chances....I'm not meeting with you anymore...You should of stuck with gambling and loan sharking....You tried to diversify and you got in over your head. You handled this like you've handled everything else ,like an amateur..So this is bye bye, you cheap punk, wanna be gangster!"said Carla..

She walked out and left him sitting there....

He now had a feeling of dread ,like the walls were caving in on him..
