The Pawn Shop Murders, Part II

We were all at headquarters the next morning...

Sissy Addressed us...

"We have seven murders, seven open murders, tied to Pawn shop robberies...We know our killer is an expert boxman...He cases these places and when they're empty...He goes in and takes them down strong...He either kills the manager and blows the safe...or he forces the manager to open the safe and then kills him...He rifles the cash register... We think he's stolen close to a million dollars over the summer..." she said.

He seems to be working on some kind of time table...he strikes before major holidays..He vanishes for a time...then reappears...and more robberies follow.."said Duke..

"I'm thinking he may be a gambler...or have a drug problem..Or Both..."said Angie..

"Yes...somebody that needs a lot of cash and fast....Duke check with Atlantic City P.D. ,and with our own Vice and Narcotics  units..Ask them if anybody from Philly has been flashing a lot of cash and losing big,,,"said Sissy..

"On it...I'll even call Vegas..."said Duke..

"I can help you with that.."said Sharon Hopkins, Deputy Special Agent in charge, FBI/ATF , who also had offices in our building..

"We found both cars used in our robbery and the one Hop and Sirena caught...Both were stolen and both were bleached down...No prints.."said Angie..

''My teams have a few witnesses who saw a man running from the scene, who jumped in one of the cars...white male, glasses...red bushy hair..I got em looking at mug shots..Maybe we'll get lucky.."said Hop..

"Lotta maybe you can call that guy you know in the K-9 unit and we can get the dogs out...search for Latex gloves or even that gun...He should have ditched both  by now...He should know we are on to him.."said Sirena..

"In unrelated case news...Me,

Top and Jimmy have turned South Philly and Northeast Philly upside down, talking to and interviewing family members , associates, friends of both James Butler and Mickey Dolenz… We checked their financial records, credit cards, debit cards and last known movements...

They were known hit men....suspects in 12 contract killings a piece...Apparently this cop, Jimmy Doolittle was on the fast track to making detective...He was being groomed...about to get married.."said Tyriq..

"But from what I found out...He had a gambling problem...He was in big..100K big to some low level gangster...and something else...He told some other guys that he knew about another cop on the take...And this cop was going to bail him out, get him out of trouble.."said Carlotta..

''We stopped short of finding out about this cop.."said Jimmy..

"We...by we..I mean the FBI...We had him...Doolittle was a co-operator...Then he gets killed...Right before he was about to reveal who the dirty cop was...

A Lieutenant Frank Hutton worked closely with us...He was Detective Frank Hutton back then..he did an excellent job...He made the case...He brought down the mob boss who ordered the hit...Which was all we wanted...We had an idea who the hitters were, but getting the big cheese was our goal..Dolen and Butler were on our most wanted list for five years...and here you guys find them yesterday.." said Sharon..

"I knew him...He was Sgt. Frank Hutton when I worked Special Investigations."said Sirena.

"We stopped by the M.E.'s office.."said Tyriq
"It was our last stop.." he said..

''And Hazel

positively identified both men by dental records and DNA.."said Jimmy...

''Sirena...Here is where it gets cute.."said Carlotta..

"You go girl.."laughed Sirena..

"Hazel said the same gun used to kill these two gumbas….

IS THE SAME GUN USED IN ALL SEVEN OF YOUR PAWN SHOP ROBBERY-HOMICIDES!" said Carlotta.. " A Glock Nine" she added!

''WHAT?"  said Sissy...

"You've got to be kidding." I said.
"Nahhhhh!"said Sharon in disbelief...

"The shell casings and grooves in all of the Pawn Shop murders and these two murders all match!" said Carlotta.

"This takes my case in a whole different direction..."said Danny Ho..

"Thing is...None of the wiseguys we talked to were even in the game when this went down...They don't know anything about it.."said Jimmy...

"Somebody does...and I want answers..."said Sissy..  "This stays in this room....Nobody else...I mean nobody else except us needs to know that..."said Sissy...
''What about the Great Detective?" asked Jimmy..

''Especially the Great Detective."said Sissy..

"I hear he and HARD BOTTOM host, B.L. Benz had a falling out...He hasn't been on the show in months.." said Hop..

"He no longer has a platform to start spinning serial killer theories." said Sirena.

II-
Yet another Pawn Shop Robbery, Yet another Homicide...

Carlotta ,Sirena and Angie had on latex gloves and booties..They kneeled down and observed the bloody body...
"Asian male, 45 years old, Ling Chou...Gun shot wound to the chest, one to the shoulder and one to the hip.."said Carlotta
"Looks like there was a struggle...He fired a gun...This one over here and there was a fight...Glass broken, things knocked over.."said Sirena..
"Our boy blew the safe...but a silent alarm went off...He didn't get the cash register, he had to leave.."said Angie..

''We got an eye witness..."said Jimmy, who brought a young lady in with Hop..

"She said she saw the man run out of here..."said Hop....

"Take her downtown...Get a police sketch artist.."said Sissy..

"Have her look at mug shots.."said Duke..

"I got Plain Clothes and Uniforms covering the immediate five block area.."said Tyriq..

"This is three times in a week...Either we are chasing another guy or this guy has changed up his pattern.."said Lt. Danny Ho..

"This was certainly more violent than the last one.."said Hazel..

''Heads up!" said Carlotta..

Lt. Frank Hutton walked in...

"Hi guys... Hi Sissy.." he said and smiled..

"Frank! what brings you here?"  said Sissy..

"I read about these Pawn Shop killings and I was curious....They sound like a degenerate gambler I know..Frankie Flowers...He'd pull a big heist and blow all his dough in A.C. and need to pull one again.."said Lt. Hutton..

"I heard of him...but he was never violent...but worth looking up...Thanks Lieutenant Hutton."said Duke..

"Hey Lieutenant Hutton." said Tyriq.

"Hey Frank." said Lt. Danny Ho..

"Heyyy Danny....Hi ya Duke, Rico....Sirena baby....How long has it been..??" he laughed..

''Well let's see, when we worked Special Investigations...You were Detective Hutton and the last time I saw you , you were Sgt. Hutton...Now look at you, Lieutenant Hutton.."said Sirena..

"Just goes to show...you hang around long enough and you become what you hate...The Brass.."he laughed..."I remember your Lieutenant, when she was a Sgt..Eh Siss?" he laughed..

"You remember me when I was a green detective, trying to make my bones.."laughed Sissy...

"Yeah, you didn't even have a desk...I remember.." he laughed.. "We go wayyy back...You got a fine bunch of detectives here...I heard you guys found the remains of my two cop killin suspects yesterday...Dolen and Butler..Anything on them?" he asked..

''Nothing, None of the players we talked to, were around when they were...Nobody knows anything."said Carlotta.

"That was to be expected...Anyway..who cares? Those two bums were killers themselves and they got what they dished out to others...I don't care who killed em...My case is down.."said Frank Hutton..

''Yeah we don't care either...We are trying to catch the freak who is doing this.."said Sissy...

"Well good luck...If you need my help for anything...just let me know okay?" he said..

"Sure thing Frank....Thanks for the tip.."said Sissy..

''He's Real Po-lice!! A Cop's Cop."said Lt. Ho..

III-

Back at headquarters, Sharon Greeted us..

"You guys look sad...I heard there was another Pawn Shop Murder.." she said..

"Yes...This makes eight.."said Sissy..

''We've got to do something...We can't keep letting  bodies pile up like this.."I said..

"I'm going out with Sirena ,Hop, Duke and Angie tonight.."said Carlotta..

"You got in contact with your guy in the K9 unit?" asked Sirena..

"Yes."said Carlotta.
 "Maybe, we'll get a break...We've been lucky before.."said Hop..
"I'm going to check and see what those composites show.."said Duke..
"Relax...I already did that... None of our eyewitnesses found anybody amongst the hundreds of mugshots that they could agree on..."said Angie..

"But the description they all agreed on was he is white, about six feet two to three...Red bushy hair, big lips and a dimple in his chin and he wears horn rim glasses..."said Tyriq,,
"He's a loner...Doesn't look like he works with anybody and there is no rhyme or reason to his crimes.."said Jimmy...
''We gotta find a way to protect the remaining Pawn shops.." I said..

"Papi, we can't watch every pawn shop in the city..."said Carlotta..

"No but we can put patrol cars and plain clothes on some shops we know do good business and are located in vulnerable areas like the ones our guy hits.."said Sissy..

''What's that I smell...It smells good.."said Duke..

"That's my hubby...He's been here cooking for us.."said Sissy....

"Yes he has and it smells good.."said Sharon...

"I'll say..."said Lt. Ho..

"Hey Guys...come get this good food." said Eddie C.

We were treated to Barbecued Chicken
 Ribs
 Corn on the Cob
 Cole slaw
and beer..

All served in our stylish cafeteria upstairs...

The guys had worked this case hard....They deserved it...

IV-

Early the next morning...Lt.Frank Hutton was riding around in an unmarked car...He was scoping Pawn shops...when he noticed something..

''What's that place doing closed? They just opened..."he mused..

He heard a scream and then a shot..

He grabbed his shotgun and ran towards the door...He fired once, blowing the door off the hinges..

The suspect...a six foot tall white male with red bushy hair looked him straight in the face.. He fired his glock at him..

Lt. Hutton fired his shotgun at him..He missed..He ducked for cover..

The man fired at him again...He missed..He jumped into a car and pulled off..

Lt. Hutton shot the rear mirror off of the drivers side and the mirror on the passenger side and the back windshield...

The car sped off in a hail of gunfire..

He went inside...

The manager was still alive..

He didn't get my safe...but he rifled my cash register...I had a gun...I heard about these other robberies..I was ready..

"Good For you!...Good For You.."said Lt. Hutton.
