Class Action

Assistant U.S.Attorney Tony Richardson sat in an empty conference room in the upstairs of the U.S. Courthouse in Philadelphia PA.

He leafed over some papers....His Assistant, Attorney Karla Williams walked into the office with coffee..

"Looking over those files?" she said.

"Yes...and there are many more...My wife's brother was right...There is definitely several cases of voter suppression here...I'd like to open up a serious investigation, but do you realize how that would look?" he said..

"It would look like you have a personal axe to grind..." said Karla..

''Especially since I have political aspirations of my own...but I want to do right by him....You know...What this case needs is independent attorneys and investigators...People not connected to the government in anyway, but that specialize in this type of thing.." he mused..

''I know just the Attorneys ..Said Karla..who tossed a folder with glossies on his desk...

"Take a look." she said.

There were glossies of Olivia, Beverly,Me ,Nelson, Josie, Yvette Jones,Keith Jones, Beatrice "Bee Bee" Evans,Kahlil Ahmed,Sofia Garcia and Jade Lee..accompanied by a dossier with our life story and history.

"Them....These are the attorneys that were in Hosuton, who won that big Immigration case...

and have won several other civil rights, immigration, labor union and women's cases, et al..." said Karla.

"I recognize Olivia Bennett-Alexander, Beverly West and their team...Who are these others?" asked Tony.

"Their dossiers accompany their photo...I got the whole book on all of them." said Karla..

Tony pulled her toward him and kissed her passionately...She was pleasently surprised...

"I want the book on youuu.." he whispered..

"Would you concentrate on their credentials and not how good the women look?" said Karla..

He pulled Josie's photo and her file up...

We had been back from San Francisco for a week...

The Office was closed...

Olivia and I spent our every waking moment..

Our Doorbell rang just then..

"Somebody's at the door...I'll get that.."said Alfreda..

It was an attractive ,but serious looking Black woman with her hair in a professional bun and Large glasses...She looked like a sexy school teacher..

"Good Morning Olivia, Beverly...Everyone....I am Assistant U.S. Attorney Karla Williams...I am the area laison to U.S. Attorney for the South Eastern Territory, Tony Richardson..." she said.

 "I've heard of him....How can we help you?" asked Olivia.

''We are well aware of you and your team's work on Black Lives Matter, Labor Issues,Women's Issues, Immigration Reform and Civil Rights...I saw you on Television in Boston..I was floored by your speech and We thought what your team did in Houston was outstanding...That's why we want you and your team to work on a class action suit for us.." said Karla..

''Class Action? We just finished one of them for a Union."said Beverly..

"Yes You did...We are well aware of that...And that's why we need you to look into several cases involving voter suppression in a recent election..." said Karla.

"I've already contacted your husband Mrs. East at Foxworth and Associates...He's on board..uh provided you guys are.."said Karla.

"You want us to work on a class action suit...for the government...?" asked Olivia..

''All the attorneys you have at your disposal...Like yourself and you are hiring us..What gives?"I ask..

Karla smiled..

"The Campaign between Mark Tolliver , who is the brother in law of U.S. Attorney Tony Richardson and Oren "Orange" Golden... Golden won by the slimest margin and Mr. Tolliver has sworn there was huge voter suppression and fraud....That's where I came in...I had some federal investigators come in and actually look into a lot of these cases...We found a lot of fishy cases....I feel it would be better if independent attorneys represent these people...You guys bring charges...Win a civil case and that will give me leverage to bring criminal charges against several people involved...It'll all be clean.....Us. Attorney Richardson can not be directly involved because it will look like...." she said before she was cut off..

"A bad case of Nepotism..."said Josie..

"But if independent Attorneys and investigators make a case out of it..."added Beverly...

''EXACTLY!!"laughed Karla.. "A place will be provided for you guys to meet and work...This must be in the strictest of confidence if you agree to work for us...Nothing regarding the case should be discussed in this office..." said Karla..

 "We aren't being sequestered are we?" asked Olivia..

"Oh No!NO! ...You'll work a normal day...9:00 am -5:00 pm and return to your homes...Any monies you win for your clients...You get to keep a percentage...Your usual fee. Plus we'll be giving you all a small stipend..So..Are you guys in?" she asked..

Olivia looked around..

"Of course.."said Beverly..

"Where you lead..I'll follow."I said.

"I'm in..."said Josie.

"GREAT...Now I'm on my way to Connor/McCklusky/Cozen & Pratt" said Karla..

"Vettie and her team will be involved with this too?" said Olivia, smiling..

"Yes..Your teams worked so well together in Houston...Mr. Richardson wanted them included in on this too!." said Karla..  "You guys have worked with several of them on other cases.." she said..

"You've done your research well.."I said and smiled..

Karla smiled...

"That's my job!" she said.

 SOME TIME LATER AT CONNOR/ MCCLUSKY /COZEN & PRATT-

"U.S. Attorney Tony Richardson?? Yes..I've heard of him, Seen him on Television many times..Never met him.."said Attorney Yvette Jones, who was excited about the prospect of working on a Class Action suit for the government..

"And if they're in...I'm in.."said Jade..

"I like you guys...All of you....I'll see you Wednesday Morning...9:00 am at the federal building." said Karla.

Keith watched her as she left...He whispered to Khalil...

"You think we'll be working on Saturdays Ms. Yvette?" asked Bee Bee..

The next morning...All of us were in the lobby of the federal building...

"Wow this feels like the time I worked on a federal task force.."I said..

"It kind of is.."said Olivia..

 "Wow, we are working together again baby!"said Beverly..

"I know.."said Nelson, hugging her and kissing her on the cheek.

"This is so exciting." said Josie..

"Heyyyy Guys.."said Yvette Jones...

 "WOWWW, You guys just got back from cali and fell into this huh?" said Bee Bee..

 ''A Lawyer's life"said Sofia,

 "Heyy guys.."said Keith Jones..

 "At least we get to go home every night...This is cool."said Jade Lee..

"Yes."said Khalil...

Karla Williams appeared..

"Okay guys...follow me " she said as we got on an elevator that took us up a few floors...

"We are right over the Federal Holding Facility.." she said..

 "My Niece and I were here on a contempt of court charge..."said Olivia.

 "Nice to be here for something else.."said Beverly...

"You guys have had quite a few experiences..."said Yvette.

We were marched into a high end conference room....It had a great view from above...

Beverly, Josie, Bee Bee and Sofia marveled at the decor, at the view from above.....

Nelson, Keith Jones and Khalil Ahmed stood in the corner talking quietly.....

Tony Richardson walked into the room...His light skin and green eyes immediately got Yvette's attention..

"Oh My God...He's cuter in real life..."said Yvette..

"He is...but he's married too."said Olivia..

"And I got a man....Oh well!" said Yvette as she and Olivia laughed a conspiratorial laugh...

Tony surveyed the room...

He knew Olivia and I were married..

He spied Keith Jones and Bee Bee holding hands and sitting next to each other...

The same with Sofia and Khalil..

But Josie, Yvette Jones and Jade Lee was another story...They were definitely single, he mused...

"Focus on the task at hand.."said Karla..

"Good Morning....I am U.S. Attorney Tony Richardson....I live in Washington D.C. , but I commute to Philadelphia on a daily basis...The reason why I convened you guys is because...I want an independent investigation of a recent campaign and election...We maintain that there was wide spread corruption, i.e. voter suppression during the State Senate Campaign for Mark Tolliver, who is the brother of my wife..So that it doesn't seem like a witch hunt on my part...I have gathered you attorneys and investigators here to look over and possibly make a case or several cases of voter suppression during that campaign..."Said Tony Richardson.

The Conference Room was high tech...A 50 inch Monitor on the wall...Laptops for us...A Complete Law Library..

"Pretty Cool Huh?" I said to the guys...

 "Yeah, I dig it.."said Keith..

"It's rad mannnn." joked Khalil.."What you think Nelson?" he asked..

"It's the feds...man, what do you expect?" laughed Nelson...

Beverly whispered to her aunt..

"Auntay...Tony Richardson is staring at both of us like a hungry wolf.."

"I know....I caught him checking Josie and Yvette out too...He's married..He's such a dog..Remember what Kayla told us about him.."said Olivia..

''Well we don't even have to pick teams...Beverly, Nelson and Josie and I will take half and Vettie

"That's perfect....We are like a well oiled machine now.." said Yvette looking at her prize protoge's...

We liked to think that we worked well with the four young attorneys too! Yvette had graciously allowed us to use their services whenever we had needed legal assistance...

I looked at Jade...

"And you and I will be out and about doing the legal leg work.." I said.. "We taking your car or mine?" I asked.

"We can flip a coin."laughed Jade..

"Oh about that...You'll be leaving your personal vehicles home after today...Look out the window..see that Mini Bus out there?" said Tony Richardson....

We looked down into the street...A white Mini Bus was there...

"That bus will transport you all here...We know where you live.." said Tony Richardson...

"Liv,since I live close to you, the bus can pick me up with you and the guys.."said Yvette...

"That'll work.." said Olivia..

"There is a cafeteria here...You can have a hot breakfast if you like..Eggs to order,Pancakes,Waffles, French Toast, Hot Coffee, Tea..."said Karla.

''Works for me.."said Bev..

 ''Yeah, me too..We can tell your mother she doesn't have to bring us coffee and pastries.." said Nelson..

 "It gives us more sleeping time.."whispered Keith to Bee Bee...

 She smiled and leaned her head into his chest..

 "That's a good thing, huh boo?" said Sofia..

I put my arms around Olivia..

Tony Richardson looked a little disappointed to find that even Josie was hooked up...He turned his attention to Yvette..

"I can't stay over at Gary's..He's going to have to stay with me...He loves my new apartment anyway." Yvette said to Olivia..

We began working on the cases immediately...

After we had all gone home for the day ,Karla looked at Tony and laughed..

"Good girl...Now I'll see you in the morning...Make sure they have breakfast..."he said and walked out...Before he did...He pulled her to him one last time and hugged her....She didn't want him to let her go..

"You really are special to me.." he said..He tried to kiss her again, but she moved her head..
